Roy felt Tom's curse break abruptly. He stood up a little shaky. Tom had petrified him out of nowhere. He had no idea where he had gone to. But he had to find out. He couldn't let him do anything stupid. He pulled out his wand and cast a patronus to lead him to Tom. To his surprise, his patronus led him right into the forbidden forest. He followed it to find Tom passed out with his back to a tree trunk.

He bent down to examine him. His ribs were broken. He pointed his wand at them, "Episky!

"Ah! Tom came to as his ribs snapped back in place.

"Are you okay?! Roy pulled him back up as Tom bent down massaging his ribs. "What happened to you? Roy asked as Tom nodded his head.

Tom gulped down, his chest was still throbbing. He took a deep breath then answered. "Nothing. I will explain...not right now... He cut across him as Roy opened his mouth to argue. Tom hadn't landed in the forbidden forest half dead of his own accord. Something must have happened.

"Where did you go after you left me petrified? He asked as he helped Tom to his feet.

"I am sorry... About before... Tom gulped down. He couldn't think about anything right now other than what he had seen in Riddle's mind. He had to find out what was happening. His plan to get Seth to help had failed tremendously, he decided not to think about it anymore. He needed to focus on what he had seen Padma say to Riddle. He had to make sure if it was real. "It's not important, it didn't work. But I need your help...

"I will help you as long as you don't petrify me again. Roy answered calmly. He wanted to know what had befallen him but he knew Tom would only tell him everything if he helped him out now.

"Go to my room, see if Riddle's there. Get Harry there and don't let him leave until I return. I have some doubts about him.

Roy stared at him. He didn't seem to think anything of the sort before he had left him. "Tom, what's going on?

Tom frowned. "Forget it, trust me if you want to, I have to go. He stepped away from Roy and closed his eyes. He was still feeling weak but the pain in his chest was the one he had been through before. He could handle it. What he couldn't get out of his head was Padma's words for Riddle. He had to know what was going on. He flew out of the forest as Roy called out to him to stop him, but he didn't. As he flew back out of the forest, he saw Roy's broom flying to him. He had apparently summoned it to match his speed in getting out of the forest. But if Roy wouldn't help him he would only get in his way and he couldn't let that happen.

"Reducto!

His curse hit the broom and it broke in half right before his eyes. He knew Roy would not be happy. But he couldn't let him get in his way anymore.

"No! Roy stomped his foot as his broom fell in front of him in 2 pieces.

He had followed his patronus deep into the forest. It would take him a lot of time to walk out of here. What was Tom thinking of?

"Accio! He summoned a school broom. No matter what, he wouldn't let him do anything stupid.

"Tom, you're back early? She spoke the moment her eyes fell on him.

Tom, who had just walked into Padma's room froze at her question. So, his vision hadn't been just a dream. It had been hard reality. He still had to ask. Just to be sure.

"Early? I think have been pretty late. I should have come here ages ago. I have been longing to see you. He forced a smile. He pushed all the pain away and stepped forward.

At his words she smiled widely. A smile, that Tom had never seen before. It only added to her beauty. She had never smiled like that in front of him before.

"I'm sorry I didn't come by earlier.

She looked at him strangely then laughed out. "You mean earlier than an hour?

Tom's heart sank. So, that conversation was real. He gulped down. "I couldn't bring anything. He said abruptly trying to be as casual as possible.

She grabbed his arm pulled him close and lay her head on his chest. "All I care about is you. No gift could be any precious than you are to me. I realize this is the end of the month. You wouldn't have anything on you. I didn't mean I needed you to buy something right away. She looked up into his eyes to find him petrified.

Tom had frozen where he stood. He had not expected her to do anything of the sort. He pulled away from her.

"Please, don't be offended. You don't have to buy me anything, Tom. Honestly. She turned him back towards her to find the same petrified look on his face. "Don't think, I'm saying that because I'm older and I know what's the worth of a galleon if spent on utility. Even before, I had no intentions of impressing that you need to buy me gifts. What I meant was, that I'd rather if you gave me a flower than summon an expensive gift without paying for it. She came closer to him and put her arms around his neck. "Souvenirs of love have no price tags attached to them. They are priceless as is love.

Although every vein in his body wanted to back away, Tom willed himself to stay put. He had to know something more. He just didn't know how to. "I...When...er...did we have this conversation? He asked her hoping against hope she wouldn't react in a false way.

She pulled away from him as her smile faded. "Tom, you were here about half an hour ago. How could you forget all this in a mere half hour? So, it was all real. He let go of her and turned away from her.

"Tom, is everything alright? Has anything happened? He didn't reply but backed further away from her taking his face in his hands. He had trusted him blindly, now he knew he shouldn't have. "Has anyone found out about us? She asked more seriously turning him back to herself. "Has anyone? Look, if you're scared, there'll be talk of the intimate relationship of a teacher and a student or about the differences of our ages...just know that what people say does not matter to me. And if anything, I'll protect you from it all. I'm sure Harry will understand. Has he found out, Tom? She asked now, her expression turning to worry.

"Is that what he told you? Tom wanted to murder Riddle, literally. He had been playing with Padma's feelings all this time and had given her the very reasons she was scared of to keep her from telling Harry or anyone else of their relationship.

"Who? Tom, you're not making any sense.

"I wish I could. He looked at her with pure regret. She had been pulled into this because of him. If he hadn't insisted on keeping Riddle here, none of this would have happened. If he had been prudent enough to keep an eye on Riddle he would never have found himself in this big a mess ever. But the thing that pierced him the most was that he had always taken her like a sister and by virtue of their relationship it was his obligation to look out for her instead he had pulled her into a lot of trouble.

Before she could say anything else he left her room.
