In the context of Dharma I have a point to make here, just give me a couple of minutes to collect my thoughts.

Dharmaraj Yudhisthira is my favorite Pandava, even more than Arjuna. While I love Arjuna and Bhima, and also Nakul and Sahadev, Dharamaraj has always stuck out for me as a very complex character.

He was not called Dharamaraj for no reason. He made mistakes in his life, and he did true penance to atone for his sins, and grew as an individual worthy of being called a friend of God.

I don't understand why people blame him for everything that went wrong with Draupadi. He was culpable in the dyut sabha. That was his biggest mistake, but he was a pious soul every other time.

I agree with almost everything you said Janu.
But my only point about him is this: The Dyut Sabha was a Dharma Sankat situation for him.

Okay, I am back.

In the context of Dharma, and understanding the Lord, I think, among the brothers, he was the first to give his full faith to Lord Krishna. The reason that of all people, He was made Shaanti doot, is that he trusted Lord Krishna to do it.
Yudhishtira was always a dharmaveer, for Arjuna, he needed the Bhagavat Gita because he was a karmaveer, and his understanding that Dharma is the Paramatma, or otherwise, Krishna, came later. He ultimately became a dharmaveer, but Yudhishtira's came first.

It did. You know my thesis on why Parth needed the Gita, while the others didn't. I will post that shortly as well 😳
P.S. Shri, visit our Patidev's thread, will you? 😉

How could you write the exact words of my heart 😲😳
Yudhishthir's Bhakti was so strong that he never lost trust on Krishna even in the hardships of exile. When Bheem and Draupadi requested him again and again to return, he remained unmoved in his Satya Dharma and his belief on Lord. That's why Krishna praised him with the verse I quoted on page 2.

Sema, common ground for discussion-Dharmaraj. We both tried to understand him, at least, I can only say I made an attempt. I am happy I found someone who thinks like me. Someone who isn't Srutha. 😆

My opinion on the dyut sabha is that every individual present there who stayed silent was culpable in some way.

Yudhisthira, like Bhishma and Dronacharya, faced a dharma sankat in which two dharmas warred with each other, and he chose the one he thought was right, when in fact the other was the answer.

The beautiful thing about his character was that he did not forcefully hold on to his beliefs once he knew they were wrong. He submitted himself to Krishna and let him guide him.

Janu, that is what I love about him. He was willing and humble enough to correct himself and give himself to Krishna. He was, I feel, the first among the five, though many choose to differ on that count.
