Chapter 3
Shocking Revelations
RG's was as usual filled with people, who had either hit the dance floor with the loud music or were just chatting away with drinks in their hands. Gunjan was not at all feeling comfortable but had to stay put for her cousins. Dia had already hit the dance floor with Benji while Uday as usual was looking for a date. He was still single and was unsuccessful in finding a girl for himself.
'This is so sad', thought Gunjan. She hoped that he too would find his match someday.
Seated all alone in the lounge, she missed Nupur, who had gone on a date with Mayank.
With nothing particular to do, she started observing the people around. She was reminded of none but him.
"He loves RG's," she muttered. Again those memories came rushing on to her mind.
Soon thirst came over and she went to the drinks section. The loud music was already taking its toll on her.
"One glass of water, please," she asked.
"Sure, Ma'am. Here it is." said the bar-tender.
"Thank you," she mumbled as she took it.
She turned back and was about to walk back towards the lounge when she bumped into someone.
"Sorry," the girl mumbled and left before Gunjan could say anything.
'Huh... Why did she say sorry? I bumped into her. I should have apologised, not her. Must be absent-minded, I guess.' Gunjan thought a bit. Yet it wasn't the end.
'But still it's my mistake. Let me find her out and say "Sorry" to her. Yes... that's what I should do.'
And Gunjan being Gunjan was hell-bent on doing that.
She started searching for her and finally found her at the dance floor.
'Ah...There she is. Yes, she is wearing that tank top with a Mini. Yes that's the one I was looking for.'
'But wait... What did she see just now? The girl was dancing with...'
"Ranvijay," she shuddered at the name.
Till now Gunjan was unable to see the girl's face but when she turned to face her, Gunjan was in utter shock.
'No. This can't happen. This can't be Sheena. I wish my eyes are mistaken this time. Why such a thing is happening? Where is Samrat? Does he know anything about this?'
Many questions were arising in her mind. She looked at Dia for some clue, who had already guessed about it. She went up to her.
"Let's go home, Gunjan. I will tell you everything. But first ... ," she paused and added, "... we need to leave this place." She didn't want to face her ex- at any cost.
Gunjan couldn't argue. They all went home.
*******
"Yes. It's true that they are not together now." Dia finally let out the truth.
Shock and worry was etched on Gunjan's face. She was unable to believe what Dia had told just now.
"Why, when, how, just tell me," commanded Gunjan. She was getting restless to know what happened exactly. All her sacrifices and efforts were going down the drain at the moment.
"It happened just a week after you left. Sammy was highly upset after you went away. He used to have regular fights with Sheena. Then one day, he caught her cheating on him with ... with Ranvijay. " Dia added with a pause. Her voice shivered a bit as she took her ex-s name.
Soon she controlled herself. "That was the time when I realised that why RV broke up with me. I concluded that he was never in love with me. And I moved on. I had stopped believing in love. But then Benji came into my life. Being with him, made me forget everything and one day, we fell in love. How, why, when I don't know. The only thing was now that we loved each other. Isn't it surprising that at one point of time, we didn't even like other's presence despite being Sammy's friends but now ... now we are together."
"And we will be together, my love," Benji assured.
Dia had tears in her eyes while Benji gave her a shoulder. He was proud that Dia is his love. Gunjan was feeling somewhat relieved to see this yet something was still bothering her.
"It's good that you got Benji ... I am really happy for you guys. But what about Samrat? Where is he? How is he? Is it why he is... alone? Is that what you were trying to say to me that day, Dia? Please, tell me."
'Finally Gunjan let it out, what had been on her mind since that day.' Nupur concluded as she stood there observing them.
"Gunjan. Oh ... How will I tell you? Sammy... Sammy has really become lonely. Since that day, he has stopped smiling. Every time, we meet him, we meet someone else. The old Sammy is lost somewhere. He is totally changed. He is no more the cool dude, the rockstar of Excel. He has become... Well, I can't say ... And he doesn't ..."
"And he doesn't what, Dia?" Gunjan was getting restless.
"He doesn't play Basketball anymore nor does he play the guitar."
"What!!!! I mean ... he loves BB and his guitar. Then how come he doesn't ..."
"I don't know the exact reason, Doll. Why don't you find it yourself ... Coz we are already exhausted finding answers to this ... He doesn't have any time for us. He's in a kind of shell, reserved, always keeps to himself. So how would we know? But you ... You were his most special friend, weren't you?" Dia threw an accusing look.
Gunjan became a bit conscious. She was getting those guilty pangs again.
"I don't know ... I must have been foolish to leave him like this. I think ... he will start shouting at me the moment..." Gunjan's eyes had started shedding tears already. Nupur wasn't at all happy to see her like this.
"Offo, Gunjan. You are thinking a lot these days, By God! Just leave it... You don't have to worry at all. He won't be eating you away. Okay ... After all he's your best friend, no? Arrey Dia, why do you have to blame her all the time? Gunjan, you don't worry, he won't be angry with you. Rather I think that he will be extremely happy to see you. Maybe he's been dying too to meet you."
"What do ... you mean ... to say, Di? ..." asked Gunjan, between sniffs and sobs, a bit flustered. She was not able to meet her eyes.
"That you can't wait to meet him after all these years. And that he too must be looking up to this day with much eager."
"Gunjan dear! Nupur is right. He is a bit sad, not angry. Okay. He was upset that you left him all alone. We all know this very well that he can't stay without his friends and you are his Chashmish. Can he ever be angry on his Chashmish?" Dia realised that Gunjan's sensibilities hadn't changed a bit.
"Well said, Dia. Samrat will be really happy to see you. And he can't remain upset for so long. In the end, he will only bow down to your whims." She spoke animatedly.
Gunjan frowned.
"Di ..." she wasn't pleased with the last bit.
"Woo-hooo. You are angry, I see, my little tigress. Can't hear a word against your' Samrat, huh?" Nupur didn't seem to budge.
But Gunjan too had become worldly wise. She won't reply to her Di's teasing.
"Okay, okay. I will meet him. Till then, excuse me. I need to catch some sleep now."
She let out a yawn.
"Offo Gunjan. Do you have to sleep this early? It's only 9:30. We have got lots of stuff to gossip. Can't you stay up for an hour at least?"
"Sorry Di. I would have but I am really tired. But tomorrow I will be there with you. Promise."
"Have a nice sleep. Good night, Gunjan."
"Good night, Di. Good night, Dia."
"Good night, Doll"
Gunjan went to her room with a new hope of meeting her friend.
