Raasta Nyayacha ani Vishwasaghata
All wedding evenings are chaotic and disorganized and the rains werent helping at all.
Suvi had help, a parlor waali and her assistant did her hair and makeup.
As the transformation happened she couldnt believe it was even her
Her flawless skin needed lil coverup, her full lips sparkled when the orange-red hues were applied.
There was no wedding album or photo shoots with Rutwik, no keepsakes no memorabilia
There were phone pictures in her "not so smart" phone 6.5 years ago
Much like other things, she had purged them all the night she had heard him talk in his sleep
In fact the pictures were the first to go
She sat motionless as wave after wave of those memories struck her like a 2*4 plank
Her eyes filling up
"eyeliner change karne ka?" the young assistant asked
Suvi nodded quietly not disclosing much
the wedding night had been a "routine" night of sex
He had made chai for her at 2 AM and had gone off to sleep leaving her aching and frustrated
She would later realize why he behaved so oddly, not wanting sex more than once a night or even twice a week
He was getting his "fill" back home
He would especially shun sex the night he returned from his "business"
Ofcourse he didnt crave any because how could he?
He had just parted from his legal wife a few hours earlier
She had saved the wedding garland and the wedding cocnut and the red string tied around it
Millions mill around Mahalakshmi and SiddhiVinayak every day
How does anyone believe anything was authentic
Just because one seeks blessings at a temple how can it instantly transform an illegitimate relationship
Questions she had pondered over the remainder of what had turned into a miserable pregnancy
Does God know who is cheating?
Or who is a crook?
In that case why dont bells go off and lamps get blown out?
"Bhabi chai chalega?" Ruchi interrupted her
She smiled and shook her head
Food was taboo but Amma had allowed chai
Until after pheras they werent supposed to eat
"Paani pee lein aap?" Ruchi coaxed
"I am not hungry" Suvi said through dry lips
the night wedding sounded exciting to Suvi
Her only knowledge being from Hindi movies like Jab We Met etc
"Inke baal both sundar hey" the head beautician exclaimed
Ruchi nodded eagerly
"Itney curlee baal mere ko kabhi kaam ku nai mila" the girl giggled
"Hamare yahan sab ke seedhe baal hain"
"Because you are all simple" Suvi muttered
Ruchi laughed hysterically
"You are so quiet but you have a great sense of humor"
"Barobar hai nai?" Suvi expected agreement
"Pushkar ke baal kitne seedhe hain" Ruchi's face clouded with sadness
Suvi couldnt look away though she wanted to
"Baalo se kisi ko kya jaachiyega bhabhi" she said looking away hiding her hurt and pain
"Ruchi" Suvi held her hand softly
"Mujhe aise kehna chahiye shaayad... ya nahi... par main aapke aane se khush hoon bhabhi" Ruchi said with heartfelt emotion
Suvi nodded inaudibly
"I like you Ruchi" Suvi said simply
"Aapke Mom ne kaha" the beautician butted in
Ruchi squirmed awkwardly
"Aapka brother both lucky hey" the girl said
"Ore nai bhi" Suvi thought to herself, anxious if there was even a rightful place in all this... and in this family...
about how everything about this event felt good, yet so unfair for Nihar and Nupur's parents, unable to shake the feeling of having betrayed Nupur.
... just as Ruchi thought the same in that exact moment thinking of Nupur as Bhabhi one last time
