My poor hero! Maybe I should send him back to Australia, make him file for divorce, sue for custody and marry a more forgiving woman. Ms Balan perhaps.

If he does that, I will conclude that he never loved Radha. Just bcause someone is not forgiving enough, you will leave them? And custody? Bhai, tu unke delivery ke time nahi tha tho chup reh. You didn't come during delivery so no claiming rights now and being a biological father is not enough, LD just as being a majaak ka pati is not.

Chapter 9

"Sir?" "I have been around these twins since they were six months old and yet I cannot tell them apart. How did you learn in two weeks?" "In a day actually. I am their father. Surely, that would make a difference." "True. As Launcelot said It is a wise father that knows his own child'. Come let us go and watch the presentation." "The children?" "Bring them along boy. They are your flesh and blood! You have every right to have them next to you." He chuckles. "Anything funny that you wish to share, Sir?" asks LD. "I want to see Ms Balan's face when she finds out that Sid and Viv are your children. I have to be there when that happens." He leads LD to the front of the hall where there are a couple of sofas. Sweety sees them go and is relieved. She was worried when she came back and found the twins gone.

Settling Viv and Sid on either side of him, LD waits for the program to start. He is so desperate to see Varun and Charu. Varun is nervous. He has prepared well but he is always a little scared of being in front of people. But Mummy was there on the side. If only Papa was here also. He really missed Papa. He starts his presentation and stops. In the front with Viv and Sid was someone who looked... looked like Papa. "Varun, your presentation," whispers Radha. Varun starts his presentation and does it flawlessly. By the time the presentations are over, the twins are fast asleep, snuggled against LD's warm jacket, thumbs in mouths.

Sweety comes to LD. "Sir, Ma'am has asked me to take Viv and Sid home. I am getting a taxi." "What about Ma'am?" "There is a dinner for the participants and she will drive home with Charu and Varun. It's past bedtime for the twins." "Forget the taxi. I am going home. You can come with me."

Driving home, LD thinks about his evening. The memory of the warm bodies of Viv and Sid against him as they slept. The trust they had in him. No, there was no way that he was going to leave his family here and go. Arriving home, Sweety takes the boys home and LD goes to his unit.

He wakes up on hearing a loud clap of thunder. A flash of lightening and another loud clap of thunder. The creaking trees. It was unsettling. Then he heard the first cry. One of the twins was in tears. Then the other. He could hear Radha trying to soothe them. The power went and came back again. Then there was a loud crash. What was that? He goes to the window and finds one of those magnificent trees. There are sparks from the electric cables. The children are wailing now and Charu and Varun seemed to have joined the twins.

How long could he just listen? He makes a decision. He goes out and knocks on the door of Radha's apartment. "Radha, open the door. It's me." "What do you want?" "Let me help with the kids. They are frightened." "I can manage." Another clap of thunder and the next round of wailing starts. "Radha, open this door right now, otherwise I will break it." Radha opens the door. "I don't need your help. I can manage my children." "They are my children too. I didn't contest you for custody. That doesn't mean that I will let you do stupid things." He brushes her aside and goes in just as the power fails. The emergency light throws a feeble light. LD goes to the fire place. "What are you doing?" "What do you think? Making ice cream? I am lighting a fire. It is going to turn quite cold soon!" LD builds the fire which throws a warm glow in the room but not bright enough for Varun to recognise LD.

He looks around and goes to what he thinks is the kids' room. He hauls a mattress off one of the beds. "Are you crazy? You barge into my home and start throwing things around? How dare you?" "Radha, I have just one thing to say to you tonight." "What?" "Shut up!"

He moves the mattress to the living room and goes back for the second one. Setting them side by side, he gets the bedding and sets it in place. "Kids, today we are all going to play camping and we will sleep here. Okay? I am going to be in the middle and you can be around me and listen to the story I tell you." The children gather around LD and he tells them the story of Lord Krishna stealing the butter and other stories that Dadaji and Dadibua had told him when he was a child. The kids snuggle against LD and slowly the warmth of his body and rhythm of his breathing lulls them to sleep.

Radha watches them and then brings her own pillows and duvet and settles herself on the couch.

How dare Mr.Chaturvedi order her around? I am sure Radha could have managed. I am sure Radha is angrier than ever. And he brushed her aside? LD, I will slap you for sure.

He left her during her delicate pregnancy due to a thought of his father-in-law. -_- He didn't even try to stop her.
