For the first time ever in their intense relationship She accepted something She couldn't hide. Something She wouldn't have let him know otherwise.

Prejudice:

As I mentioned earlier, everybody has their own experiences.
I have always been accepted with open arms by all americas I know. All of my bosses have been goras. My previous boss supported me from the day one of my career with my company. My current boss was fighting with HR. Director to make sure I get fair salary based in my grade.
May be because I have been lucky or may be because I am married to an American.

prejudice is something I or me and my husband experience from our fellow Indians. I have a South Indian couple, older, staying across from my home. As soon as they see me or my hubs or both us, they close their garage door. We wave to them, they turn around and leave.
We go to invite them to festivities, they never answer their door.

We go to indian grocery store, the owner would leave the cash register and sends a Mexican worker to check us out. We ask them a question, they act like they don't understand English.

I give a hoot for their behavior. I still be like kaise ho uncle from across the store. I still wave to the neighbors across.
My family adores my husband and that's all matters to me.

So nazariye nazariye ka fark hai.

THAT IS PLAIN AWFUL
You should not give a damn for the POSs that treat you differently. I am so shockingly apalled at such explicit juvenile behavior by Desis
They will either hide behind their Gods or their "customs"
There is no excuse for abhorrent behavior. I dont think any of them know the choices you have had to make in life
Dont let ANYONE tell you how you should live your life. More often than not they dont have a f**king clue😔 I would stop shopping there or confront them. I am a Leo I cannot take shit lying down unfortunately

Thanks for the honesty and sharing your thoughts Monalisa, I miss your hand holding picture, you and your husband? I suspected he was Caucasian😃
As I grow older I am hopefully becoming wiser too, and trying to shed some of my prejudices
Its hard... but I hope it happens😭

Great observation Nisha.
That is true. It's me and my dude, from my brothers wedding. I was pulling him in for the Garba. He didn't know jack about Garba. But with a smile on his face, he kept holding my hand and he trailed behind me the entire time, until he got too hot in that Shrwani he was wearing. 😳
One of my favorite pic of us.😳

I think we can all never agree or disagree on this topic. I have heard children saying to their parents hy didn't you encourage me to study, scold or beat me when i was not studying. There are all kinds of people. Kids may say we have not abandoned you, we are sending you money, there are so many kids there who have sent their parents to old age home, who are not taking care of them, hire a nurse if u r ill, we will give you money, hire a cook, maid...for some money talks others will give more importance to family, relations, love and affection. And for me among money and personal attention, the latter is the best and that will be the value I would like to impart to the kids.😃

I agree, that times have changed and it would be unfair to blame parents or anyone for that matter, for all the shortcomings in one's life.

The excerpt that Kalpana provided us is just a glimpse of how vast some generation gaps can be. Any one party cannot be completely blameless. Maybe the son could have initiated his parents into his life earlier? Maybe he could've tried building a relationship with them when he began a family of his own? Probably the parents could've learnt to broaden their outlook a bit??

The thing is - we don't really know. What we are discussing here is based on all our individual experiences, assumptions and the like.

But what I have realized is that the younger ones are always expected to be the 'bigger person' just because they are younger. And then they grow older and behave the same with their younger generation- a vicious cycle that very few break.

P.S. I am sure you are an excellent mommy. Since your son didn't do very well in some tests previously, I have full confidence in you that you are letting him have fun, toošŸ˜† šŸ¤—
