Aye mere watan ke logon
tum khub lagaa lo naaraa
ye shubh din hai hum sab kaa
leharaa lo tirangaa pyaaraa
par mat bhulo siimaa par
veeron ne hai praan ganwaae
kuchh yaad unhein bhi kar lo
kuchh yaad unhein bhi kar lo
jo lauT ke ghar na aaye
jo lauT ke ghar na aaye

Aye mere watan ke logon
zaraa aankh mein bhar lo paani
jo shahid hue hain unki
zaraa yaad karo qurbaani

jab ghaayal hua himaalay
khatare mein padi aazaadi
jab tak thi saans ladhe wo
phir apani laash bichhaa dii
sangiin pe dhar kar maathaa
so gaye amar balidaani
jo shahid hue hain unki
zaraa yaad karo qurbaani

jab desh mein thi diwaali
wo khel rahe the holi
jab hum baithe the gharon mein
wo jhel rahe the goli
the dhanya jawaan wo aapane
thi dhanya wo unki jawaani
jo shahid hue hain unki
zaraa yaad karo qurbaani

koi sikh koi jaat maraatha
koi gorkhaa koi madaraasi
sarhad pe marane waalaa
har veer thaa bhaaratvaasi
jo khoon giraa parvat par
Wo khoon thaa Hindustaani
jo shahid hue hain unki
zaraa yaad karo qurbaani

thi khoon se lath pat kaayaa
phir bhi bandhuk uthaake
dus dus ko ek ne maaraa
phir gir gaye hosh ganwaa ke
jab ant samay aayaa to
keh gaye ke ab marte hain
khush rehanaa desh ke pyaaron
ab hum to safar karte hain
kyaa log the wo deewaane
kyaa log the wo abhimaani
jo shahid hue hain unki
zaraa yaad karo qurbaani

tum bhool naa jaao unko
is liye kahi ye kahaani
jo shahid hue hain unki
zaraa yaad karo qurbaani

Hi all,
Good Morning / Good Evening,

Woke up to drink water, and thought to wish everyone,

HAPPY 69TH INDEPENDENCE DAY to everyone. Celebrate being an Indian wherever you are (in any part of the world) For me nothing beats being an Indian, how much ever the problems galore that is there...rampant corruption, no proper infrastructure/basic amenities in many places, ever increasing population, traffic, the red tape or white tape or wahtever it is called, the many scams of our netaas elected by us (what an irony), industrialists, religious intolerance, the many castes and the fight for quotas ...and many more (sorry still half asleep, I could only list so much, I think Nisha, Shru, Swathi can write much better)...just forget also these and rejoice and celebrate, just be proud that you are an Indian.

I haven't gone out of country or even visited the northern, eastern or western (only Shirdi and Nasik) part of the country much...and I dont know much about the other countries and the problems there/ or not...I have only heard this...whenever people go on these package tours, this has become the fad among our people now...Europe tour, China tour, America...they will come back and gush about the clean roads (first and foremost point everyone says), less traffic, punctuality, the discipline, the cute very fair kids and yeah the one complaint using paper in toilets, not able to wash legs using water...sorry this was what my MIL told me after coming back from her Europe tour...whatever I still love my country, there is something special in being an Indian...the family values, the rich and varied culture, different religions and not to forget the food, being able to knock on the neighbours door in dead of the night, the freedom for children to play on the streets, and the festivals celebrated in our country with such pomp and the crowds of people during the car (rath) festivals...I love watching the immersion of idols on Ganesh Chaturthi, Dussehra, Tirupati Brahmotsavam, Puri Jagannath rath yatra and many more . I only like them to watch from the safety of home and not going there, I am afraid of crowds and stampede.

I know there is an Independence day parade in US, to which many "celebrities" are invited to be a part of, but for me I love the Republic Day parade, the flag hoisting in Red Fort and schools, the band and the march fast done and in the end singing our National Anthem followed by sweets distribution...simple joy and pleasures.

So lets just celebrate and enjoy the hard won independence of our country.

After writing this essay, my sleep went off...anyway son has to go to school for the I-Day flag hoisting.

Sorry if I bored anyone to tears...since everybody knows I think much better about all these things.

Hi Nisha,
Yes, its a special feeling you get when we listen to our National Anthem, its more special when kids do sing and play the instruments, the innocent people they are...they might not understand how special the song is nor the significance. Until they reach high school and study more about the freedom struggle, it will just be day when they get holiday or 2 hrs of school.

No need to have a person in family who have fought for the independence, our National Anthem is such that it automatically makes us stand straight.

In my kids school at the end of the day, National Anthem is always sung and most of the people who come to pick their children do stand quietly and in attention. Ofcourse there are always the opposite cases, people who keep chattering away, in fact I dont think they realise that our National Anthem is being sung, this is what I have seen when I go to pick my kids. On any functions or cultural days, sport days, they do sing Vande Mataram, Saare Jahan se Accha, and National Anthem. I love listening to it being sung. And I also frankly admit that I dont know the full song of Saare Jahan or Vande mataram just the starting few lines, I really wish they had made it compulsory to learn this along with National Anthem, wish to know it by heart just as Jana Gana Mana.

Have a lovely weekend and Happy Independence day to you and all the Indians out there in there in the gora land😊

Happy Independence Day. I agree motherland is motherland, whichever part of the world you live in. Having lived in Canada for such a long time, I still miss each and every thing about india, but having. Said that I can't deny that canada is my home now and it has supported me in all ways possible. My children have grown up singin Jana gana mana and O Canada and we celebrate both countries equally.
But of course india ki Baat niraali hai aur especially delhi ki. Love each crevice, corner and gali, the crowded streets, the DTC bus, nirulas, CP mein tafri, bercos mein ek soup le kar ghanton baithna, Uspecial, asking for mirchi and dhaniya while buying sabzi...

BTW talking of celebrities, HINDU mandir has invited Dr subramaniyam swamy for india day festivities!

Shilpa I agree with you..
This was parents first time out of India trip... They appreciated Malaysia n Singapore roads, cleanliness n less traffic chaos etc.. Dad felt bad that even though they got independence after we they are doing much much better than us..
But finally they told India is the best... Mom even compared some of the tourist places and told India has better than this..
Eg: Batu Caves n Ajantha Ellora
King palace in Mysore n Kuala Lampur

The list goes on 😊 ...
