Subramanya Bharathi the Tamizh poet lived in Pre Independence India and penned verse through which he tried to inspire people's involvement in the freedom movement. Bharathi a title bestowed on him by the king on hearing his compositions as a child bharathi was trampled by a temple elephant when he was in his 30s. He kept questioning who he was and what he wanted of life and dreamt of independent India.His amazing poems on Kannamma and Nandalala are amazing reads. The liberated Indian woman was one with clear thinking, sweet words,with good will to others, and capable of action. She would stand by what she believes is right with conviction yet deeply rooted in her Indianess and values, her compassion will be boundless. I went to a school meant for Anglo Indians and was taught by nuns from Europr for almost 8 years. So the tamizh I knew was limited yet I would read Bharathi's Panjali sabatham Kuyil Paatu and learnt to sing atleast a good 30 songs by Bharathi through the Madras Youth Choir.
