One vexed press to the nurse call buzzer and the defiance of holding it down sure brought in the nurse running in with a kidney tray in hand. Dutta gradually relaxed his compressed finger and let go of the buzzer. The nurse asked his needs and he grumbled he wished to have a word with the doctors on duty. She smiled and he told they are doing their rounds and will be visiting him in due time. Dutta accepted and knew within his own mind what he would be saying to them ,regardless of what they would say to him. Finally the team arrived and as normal asked him how he felt?

"lousy ! deprived and unhappy! need I say more? look doctors, I can't seem to understand why my family is not allowed to visit? surely you can allow my wife at least? some marriage present I get hard done by doing good! and then to top it all banged up with you white coats!, he protested angrily. The doctors nodded to the nurse who pulled the curtains around his bed ,while the doctors watched as bandages were removed. His wound on the gut looked pink and clean, seemed the suturing had taken to his skin. The shoulder too seemed on the mend . Well pleased the doctors looked across to each other ,then with a nod they looked at Dutta as one of them pulled back the curtains around his bed and turned to Dutta.

"ok young man, the good news is that you are healing nicely .. so you can allowed to receive visitors ,however you will still need to be in for another twenty four hours for further observation ,just to be on the safe side.. before we discharge you eventually." Dutta was clearly overjoyed at the superb news. So as soon as the doctors left he decided to ring Naku with the good news.

"Sahib.. was just about to leave the house .. Sahib even if they turn me away today Naku will sit outside the hospital till the let me in! Sahib you watch! Naku called out to him over the phone . Dutta pulled back the phone from his ear and growled

"ayeee Naku! what's wrong with you ? have you lost it!no you don't need to be so dramatic.. they have allowed family.." Dutta rolled his eyes dryly

Naku yelled and announced to the rest of the family that Dutta was allowed visitors. All got ready to see him but Kala reminded all,that he may be allowed visitors but a selected number to a minimum of two.

"so in my opinion only Baji and Naku should be allowed to go this time.. seeing he just got married only yesterday. Baji should go too, in case bhau has some jobs to be done.",Kala advised. Crest fallen Krishna huddled into aye Sahib s side. She looked down at the top of his head and felt his mop of hair. She sensed what this little mite wanted and thus she ordered the hospital bound pair,

"Baji! along with Naku take Krishna with you too.. Dutta will be pleased to see him, he'll get to meet himself too!,Krishna thrilled , put his arms around aye's waist and looked up at her and rewarded his bhau s foster mother with a dewy eyed smile and a cheery snivel..

Ravi sat in the dimly lit prisoners visiting room. A police man stood outside the cell. Seema gazed into his puffed up eyes . His normally smooth clean shaven face had overnight stubble. Seema reached out for his hand across the table and her heart filled with grief. He had aged so much. Was there any need for words? Ravi covered Seema's hand with his , cleared his throat and confessed.

" Seema .. I ..he began. ButSeema stopped him and explained to him that she knows everything.

"Ravi.. if Dutta has forgiven you then she too wants to move on now?

"move on ,yes Seema that's what I want you to do.. why stop living due to my bad ways. I ll get what I deserve. But will be devastated to see your life wasted on my account.. so start afresh without me. loving you is letting you go.. Seema it would be selfish of me to keep you hanging on.. my life is so insecure. Have no idea of my bearings", explained Ravi. Seema wept clearly upset by his talk and thought an immediate setting him right was imperative

"Ravi , I only loved once.. and will not give up so easily.. say what you may, not listening to you! Ravi grabbed her arm and looked at her face much perplexed

"what are you saying Seema ? my powers of reasoning defy me.. how do you mean?

" I am saying Ravi that I will wait for you! I have asked Dutta to have a word with my babba.. I will wait for you.. after you come out.." Ravi shook his head in disbelief

" do you have any idea I might be serving life Seema ,will you wait all your life? you mad?

"you haven't killed anyone? why would you get done for life? it's regardless for how long! Seema argued. Ravi reached out for her hand and cried over it..

"this is much more of a punishment than the prison bars ! to be supported by two people I wounded most, you emotionally and Dutta physically.." he sniffed back tears. Seema felt his shoulder gently and asked him about the hearing? Ravi held her hands

" I suspect the court will formally have you called in as a witness too", reflected Ravi. Seema squeezed his fingers and consoled him with tears in her eyes .She was no weakling and she wanted to leave him with hope too..

"Ravi keep faith in Bappa, and remember you need to make peace with yourself knowing that you still have people who support you in some goodness that you still carry in your heart.. ohh yes your family is well settled in Dutta's house so just hang on in till the hearing and verdict" consoled Seema . The warden tapped the door and came into the room announcing time was up. Seema stood up and Ravi too stood up with her and watched her leave slightly dewy eyed. Seema phoned Dutta right away ,and happily gave him the outcome , that she would wait till Ravi comes out after he has served his sentence. Seema wanted Dutta to take her father into the loop about her new developments with Ravi. Dutta was somewhat pleased that Seema had taken a decision that may cause friction between her father and himself; but that's what his role would be to make babba Tavde view the side that matters to his motherless daughter.

Dutta pushed himself up against his propped up pillows. Impatiently his eyes caught the time it was mid morning nearly and no sign of Naku as yet.With some angst he pulled his mouth in and reached for his phone when suddenly the door to his private room flung open!

"areee Bhau! it's me come to check on how's my brother, look Bhau without you Baji is eclipse! just one look at you and I become visible on the face of the earth! Baji yelled ,his arms spread out he stopped and twirled on his heel, clapped with delight at a not so amused Dutta..

"you look good Bhau! pleased! that this measly lot are letting you out from this sanitized hell hole of cutting and suturing" Dutta raised his arm up and poked one finger in one of his ear holes

"cut the drama Baji! your mindless rubbish punctures my ear drum! Baji hopped on the end of his bed and folded his arms across his chest and admonished his brother cum comrade

" good to note Bhau that this hospital couldn't change your foul nature! thought they would sew up the raging side of your brain too! but good to hear and see you are more fitter than your normal self ! Baji couldn't cope with the change of your newly acquired calmness" Dutta threw back his head a bit and had to chuckle at his brothers usual gibberish

"it's your brain that needs some sense implant , not mine.. Dutta paused and after a meaningful sigh asked

"she didn't come Baji? some wife she is .. husband is gathering dust in the hospital and she is gallivanting about! where the hell is she? what the hell is she doing! that is more important than her dispossessed husband? tell me Baji", Dutta sulked on his bed

"Bhau she was caught up with some urgent work at home last minute, so had to stay behind! played on Baji. Suddenly the door barged open and in poured the animated figure of Krishna ,who run past Baji and hugged Dutta , laid his sided head against Dutta's bare hairy chest. Dutta twisted his arm and palmed the lads head gently.

"good to see at least you craved for me Krishna , your Naku tai just can't make the time for me, what was more important for her than your Dutta Bhau ,humm? explain"

"nothing Bhau! nothing is more important for Naku tai than you .. but Bhau you know here in hospital you have yourself to worry about ,but tai is at home she has to look to the family's needs too" teased Krishna as he slyly caught Baji's eye and winked.

"right! get off me Krishna! I am going to demand for a discharge right this instant! going home to ask her owww! hayeee! what her problem is ? Dutta smarting in pain limped to the door before the bewildered faces of Baji and Krishna!

The door instead opened into his face! and he very nearly tripped but was caught by Naku in the door way. Dutta saw a pair of fair bangle clad arms and a pair of petite hands gripped into his lower arms. His body leaned and slowly he raised his bowed head up and his narrowed lion like eyes pierced into her expanded green doe eyes. Naku bit her lower lip and gently helped and levelled him up.

"Sahib.. where were you heading off in such a mad frenzy? you're not even fully healed and you"she was stopped by his angry eyes and pointed finger in her face.

"was coming home to check what is more important then me Naku , your husband! that kept you from coming earlier! He growled. Naku turned her head towards the two jokers in the room Baji and Krishna and glared at them. She should have guessed his temper was the doing of these two . Naku gulped and ducked as she looped Dutta's heavy around her narrow shoulders. He pulled his breath in as he felt her other arm curved around his waist. Slowly she led him to the edge of his bed and sat him down. Baji tapped on the top of Krishna's head, closed his gaping mouth with the edge of his folded hand and whispered to Krishna, that they needed to take their leave now.. and slowly like mice the two scurried out of Dutta's private room.

Naku sat at the edge of his bed and her fingers twisted around in her lap. Dutta stared down at them with contracted eyes , and she stopped immediately. Tenderly he stared at her beauty, hair pinned back from her creamy complexioned angelic face, graced with winged eyebrows, green doe eyes , fine lipped rose bud mouth under a sharp chiselled nose. Every time he sees her it's like watching her for the first time ,such was her capturing beauty . Dutta's eyes slid down her mustard and yellow combination gold motif sheer georgette sari.Taken aback by his fixed lion like eyes suddenly she felt her diagonal pallu, and fixed her sided plait down her bosom. Dutta smiled and his lips felt apart

"you look good.. you look like a married woman now Naku", pity your husband looks like a patient, feel sorry for you" he muttered miserably as he brushed his palm against his hairy chest over his bandaged semi bare body. A peep from the porthole and Dutta's ushered palm brought Krishna in as he strode in, and put a carrier bag on the floor where Naku sat at the end of Dutta's bed. Dutta perplexed, noticed Krishna's swift exit, and with a firm pull of his mouth he wondered exactly what the secrecy was all about? Naku sighed and leant on one side as she reached out for the carrier back and plonked it on the bed.

"forget me Sahib, and start thinking about yourself. You want to see me happy then Naku would like you to stop looking like a patient! and look like her Sahib.. her husband", she said firmly and gently pulled out a muslin lemon coloured kurta and white pyjamas.

"what on earth is all this? Naku! he growled. But was stopped short as she stood by his head side and shoved his kurta over his head! Dutta gave her a sided glare and grumbled as he edged and pulled his shoulder away from her .But Naku was in no mood to give up and she grabbed Dutta's arm raised it above his head, and shoved it down the sleeve. Dutta chuckled and gently felt her palm and teased

"ok , enough of your mothering !Naku.. already have two mothers ,have no intentions of turning you into one either! good feeling being fussed over by such a beautiful wife! here being good now and will cooperate now", and found the left sleeve and pushed his arm in.. with a few feeble moans at twisting his right shoulder. Naku moved to the other side of his bedside and helped .Then finally smoothed his kurta down sensitively. Dutta loosened his collar and left it open to reveal his hairy chest. Dutta twiddled his toes under the counterpane and with a twinkle in his eye he asked Naku innocently.She sensed what went through his mind ,it was his eyes, narrowed but with a mischievous dance about them

"looks like you now have the task of putting on the bottoms to my outfit, shall I oblige you?, he added as he grabbed the corner of his bed cover ,ready to unfurl it over to reveal his part bare legs! With a near enough shy yell, Naku turned around and shuffled to the door. Dutta watched and then pressed the nurse buzzer. Naku paused her steps at the door, reeled around and asked inquiringly

"what do want Sahib? why call the nurse? Naku is here tell me.." Dutta doubled his chin as he looked across at her green eyes then lowered them slowly and fixed them on the folded white pyjamas. Naku caught on to his visual silent insinuation and the wife s jealously sprang to motion. She veered towards him , grabbed the bottoms, was about to force off the hospital's cellular blanket, when he held her hand and chuckled

"hey Naku.. don't you bother your pretty little head, nurse can do it that's what she is here for to give patient support". Naku looked at him, as she pulled her bottom lip in, flashed her green eyes at him, and left in a strop. At the door, the incoming nurse bumped into her !but Naku passed aside and let her take over. Outside the door Naku stood ,with eyes that burned with tears and a heart that was no different either. She backed herself into the outer wall and wondered what went on inside? The nurse was more luckier than her ,his wife.. at least he trusts nurse, and her he shuns aside. What was he trying to hide anyway? It's not that he's any different from the other men on this earth? She blushed though, he was probably right though ,she may be his wife ,but didn't know him well enough? A giggle escaped from her mouth as she recalled the incident when he came to the flower shop drenched like a drowned lion! looking for shelter. What fuss he had created in coming out of his wet clothes... best left alone...

Suddenly the door opened and Naku confronted the nurse, who praised Dutta's sense of independence and resilience both as a patient and as a man. Naku wanted clarification and was informed that with slight discomfort which he bore with his obduracy he pulled on his bottoms independently and that now he wished to see her.. Naku smiled and squeezed the nurse s arm with gratitude and pushed open his door and stepped into his room.

To her surprise he stood before her! Dressed in his lemon kurta, white bottoms, his slender toes held in beige slippers, one arm folded across his chest. Naku couldn't believe her eyes, it had been ages since he saw him held up on his long legs. She suddenly felt overtaken with his imposing presence and not withstanding it ,plus a bit annoyed at him for being over taken by the nurse. Her first reaction was to walk away from him towards the window in hisroom ,that overlooked the garden area ground that ran around the hospital for patients and their families use. Dutta watched his wife's attractive back and assessed her mood without her speaking much. To him it was one of those moments when he had to be proactive in expression. Slowly he strolled towards her, and parked behind her..close enough to be drizzled by her fragrant warm nearness. Tenderly from behind her, he closed his arms around her waist and gradually pushed his palms forward and pressed them on her warm belly... Naku shuddered and was careful not to back into too severely due to his still smarting wounds. She felt his prickly stubble chin pressed against her skin just above her shoulder where her scoop neck blouse ended. Then a tender kiss by his burning lips on her skin ,followed by his guttural question.

" you angry with your husband Naku? humm?,he asked as he pressed her warm belly,with his palms. He felt she heaved and heard her mumble

" no I am very happy you allowed the nurse to change you and Naku ,you dont consider anything". Dutta nipped her ear lobe and replied

" what ever!but good to see you turned green Naku.. as for changing me below the torso is concerned, not even the nurse was allowed Naku.. Dutta did it himself.. but it seems you are very keen too..have access to all of me !isn't that so? ,he teased and Naku giggled, her soft tummy quivered under his wide palms as he held her tighter. Naku looked out at the garden area out of the window and suggested

"Sahib, let me take you out to the garden area..if you are well enough to walk that is?". Dutta moved his hands to her shoulders and gently turned her around to face him. As he looked down into her eyes he blinked once and replied,

"with you beside me Naku I can walk injured and in pain too.. take me where you want , hand my all over to you .." and he bowed his face towards her, cupped the side of her soft face in his palm and pressed his lips on the temple of her corresponding cheek. Naku sensed his love and she pressed her palms against his strong wide chest and pressed the side of her face against it. She sighed and nodded with her bold expanded green eyes. Dutta let's his face move forward again with parted lips. But Naku pushed him away gently but firmly

"let's go outside Sahib, before the sun disappears..".

With his arm around her shoulder and her arm around his wide waist, the handsome couple made many heads turn , as they walked across the hospital corridor towards the door which led from the wards to the garden area. Dutta walked with some difficulty slowly but surely as Naku brushed against him across the garden path. Colourful seasonal flowers sent off a fragrance boon that reached their nostrils and transported both Dutta and his wife in a world of idyllic love. Dutta suddenly pressed on her upper arm and wished to sit on one of the unoccupied garden benches. Dutta watched a bumble bee as it hovered amorously and buzzed around the flower, then finally sat on the fragile flowers petal and helped itself to the flowers nectar..

"see that bumble bee Naku.. it's luckier than your Sahib.. gets to fulfil it's love with the flower..",he sighed subtly ,as Naku reached out for his palm. But he turned his head the other way and looked at an elderly couple sharing spoonfuls out of a small tub of ice cream. Dutta chuckled and then gave Naku a sided gaze and slowly drew her attention to the couple

"see Naku ,its the heart that needs to be young ,that's what defies age ,like those mausi and kakka". Naku looped her arm into his as she pressed her cheek against his taut arm

"yes Sahib.. like us, forever young!,she chirped ,but he gently placed his palm on hers and disagreed

" correction Naku , I am the one with the full blooded heart , but you may look young but an old soul resides in you.."he teased, Naku tapped his looped arm with her sided head and moaned in protest

"are you hinting you regret marrying me Sahib? tell me". Dutta crossed his free arm across his chest and tilted up her chin and gazed tenderly into her green eyes and parted his lips

"Dutta never regrets what he chooses to carry out Nakusha.. I do what I want, no one can force me to carry out what I reject. You are Dutta's heart's decision ..."and short of words he paused and Naku finished off softly

"and the heart never lies does it Sahib.. it was in the stars for our hearts to meet, and by Bappa's grace, like that elderly couple , Naku wants to grow old with you ,Sahib".. Dutta doubled his chin and tilted the side of his head on the top on her head , huddled around his looped arm. Both closed their eyes briefly and captured this snatched moment of bliss which was abruptly intercepted by the approaching nurse. The doctors on the rounds wanted to see Dutta. Gently supported by Naku , his weighty arm thrown around her shoulders, while her caring arm strewn around his wide waist gave both a sense of belonging to each other, as in personal property. The doctors waited in the ward lounge and the consultant smiled as Dutta approached them.

"have to say Dutta Sahib, your sheer obdurate mettle amazes us !and looking at you dressed in kurta and pyjama renders it hard to accept that you are still a patient under our roof". Dutta bowed his head

"well if that's the case then why don't you set me free right now! and I can return home with my wife.. besides even I have a home to go to like yourselves ,my family awaits my arrival. Moreover doctor, it feels like I have turned into a swab dipped in iodine... I smell of medicines and potions! my body stained with rusty iodine blemishes making me smell metallic! Dutta ranted and the doctors laughed and turned to Naku and joked

"tell us Mrs. Dutta patil is your husband always like this? ,Naku turned and looked up at his flushed stubble cheeks and replied

"he has his moments.. but really his heart's in the right place.."Naku admitted shyly and Dutta's fingers tip squeezed her upper arm approvingly while she blushed .The doctors looked at each other with a final word

"so Dutta Bhau one more night here, give your family some time to welcome you home. One thing more Mrs.Patil.. will prescribe patient's medications, they should be ready for you to collect from the nurses station the following morning".. andthe doctors smiled and walked awayfor their morning rounds..

Dutta raised his arms from her shoulders and turned to face his beloved Naku. He looked down into her raised up face. Gently his palms caressed her upper arms , moved up and parked softly on her two shoulders. Dutta's lion like contracted eyes gazed intensely into her green doe eyes . With his lips pulled to one side he traced his palm over her face lightly

"Mrs. Patil.. hummm, Naku sounds good to my ears..that you are mine in my name .. you ready to become Dutta's wife in the true sense of the word tomorrow?

Naku was terribly embarrassed to respond, or was she too ecstatic to receive the news of his home coming! That she handed Dutta over to the passing by nurse and ran down the corridor to break the amazing news to Baji and Krishna.

Dutta's phone rang and he made way to patients lounge area.. babba Tavde's name flashed on the screen.. to be continued ...
