Sorry for this looong break. 😳
The past few chapters have been a total roller-coaster ride...from the ups of Lavanya signing the divorce papers to the downs of Navin's illness. From the highs of Arnav's hopes of finally putting his past behind him and looking forward to his future with Khushi to the lows of Khushi's guilt and confusion over the rightness of the relationship.
And of course the godawful mess they both made of the one chance they did have at sorting out the misunderstandings.
Life is strange, isn't it? Just when you think you're over the worst of it, things explode in your face and you're left trying to gather the debris and put it into some semblance of happiness again.
After Khushi ran off from Arnav's apartment after hearing only part of the conversation I really wanted to bop her on the head. Yes, Arnav must have loved Lavanya at some point. He was married to her after all. And when you live with a person so closely for years, you do develop some sort of affection. I think Khushi just built up the idea in her own mind that L and their marriage were "all black" going by what Arnav told her. I don't think he meant to paint L in such poor terms, as the lying, scheming bitch that K imagined her to be. Again, a giant MU...
Sujata is again a brilliant characterization of a stubborn, autocratic INDIAN mother (oops I'm one too😉) who thinks she knows best about the kind of spouse her child needs. And goes about searching for one. And how dare the child exercise her own mind (and right) to find her own life partner. I just love how you have retained her character traits Jenny, without any magical, overnight change in her personality.
Still, I am a little upset with Khushi's persistent reluctance to give up on her anger with what she perceives as Arnav's duplicity in his portrayal of L and their love or lack thereof. She judged and punished him (and herself) without hearing the whole conversation and without giving him a chance to explain his side of it. And of course, the guilt trip her parents are constantly sending her on hasn't helped matters one bit.
Yet, having said that, I can still understand that she feels a deep sense of regret and guilt over L's suicide bid. To live with that knowledge for the rest of her life... But I do wish she had talked talked TALKED to Arnav about it instead of putting it off for so long. Somewhere deep inside perhaps she's fighting the fear that maybe she IS right and that Arnav does love Lavanya after all?
And Arnav...he was patient for a month. Giving Khushi the time and space she wanted to come to terms with the whole situation, thinking she was trying to get her parents to come around and accept their relationship. And when he finds that's far from what's happened, he's lashed out. I don't condone his words or his behavior, although I do understand it. To his way of thinking L is in the past and already forgotten. He can't understand why Khushi doesn't see it that way. He feels Khushi has no faith in him and his love for her. It must hurt. And he's reacted in the worst possible way. With anger. His quick anger has always been his own worst enemy and is the very thing turning around to bite him in the backside now.
And this whole thing with Madison. I never did believe for a minute that he would go through with it.
It's telling that despite being "technically married" to Lavanya when he met Khushi, he still fell in love with her and even consummated those feelings and that relationship. Yet, despite NOT being married to Khushi -- being free, so to speak - he still cannot bring himself to sleep with Madison because what he feels for Khushi transcends the need for a mere piece of paper legalizing their relationship.
I love this guy. Warts and all. Can't wait for him to ride out into the sunset in search of his lady love.
