ArHi SS: Weight of the world - Chapter 3: Pg 18, 01-June - Page 5

As the idiot who gives up the comfort of her nice warm bed to go running before the sun comes up in the cold Canadian winter, I was so in sync with the first part of the chapter. There is a freedom in being only a handful to do so at that time when night gives way to morning, the air is fresh and crisp as there are very few vehicles on the road - heck you can even run on the road as if you own it not motor transportation. a quick hello as you go by, an exchange of smiles or a wave of the hand - they are all part of communication with these strangers who share that special moment with you. You know in the end they don't matter as you don't become intimately involved with them enough for their opinion to matter - just strangers you say hello to. However when the people who you care about and who are expected to know you better say something about the stuff you are struggling the most with, makes fun of it, it feels like you are not loved anymore as you care more about their opinions than anyone else. I was the chubby kid with 2 completely thin sisters growing up, they even called me gros a nickname that stays to this day. My kids and husband ask why my sisters call me by this name. I learned very early on that they were not being mean to me when they said this - it was just sisters being sisters, their love and support never made me feel I was out of shape. If anything, they prepared me for the bullies I was going to face. luckily for me teenage years helped me lose the baby weight and I did not have to worry about weight issues until my babies came along. I don't think her family were being mean just likei feel she should not have to feel she is less because of the weight issues. It just feels like they have never addressed it as a family - as in how does she feel when they joke about it? This is a tough one as neither Kushi nor the family should be the bad guy. Anil did seem like a good match until his ask for an arm candy wife with the right proportions. Now this one, I refuse to put up with. She did the right thing in saying thanks but no thanks. Love me for who I am and not what I can be. My love handles are part of the package so don't ask me to become Miss India to be your wife. She was so brave in parting ways with him. Now I wonder who cookingwithmycactus is? Just some random foodie blog she follows or someone she knows?

complexity with weight,is so much common the children..but what bothers is the people who make fun of it.
As one grows up,this continues with the partner too..they start complaining and try to change you.
I think more than ourself the people around us makes us feel what we are..
That's sth i can relate too just the thing is it is my height.

I have to make a special mention of the morning scene. I must have stared at the new born sun so many times till the tears sting and I had to avert my eyes, and given a small smile of defeat for losing the staring contest with the Sun.

Beautiful.. I could relate to khushi.. Glad to read abt an issue thats so common in our society. Have even met some wonderful ppl like khushi ..genuine warm sweet and strong whom i totally admire. Looking forward to how it goes for khushi here..
