Chapter 10
Sharon was still confused with Swayam's behaviour. The guy she had known always found ways to approach her and this guy seemed to avoid her at the slightest provocation. Why was he behaving so cold and distant? More importantly, why was she so desperate for his attention? A few months back, she didn't care about him and now, he seemed to be the center of her attention. What was wrong with her? Oh yes, the few months she was talking about happened to be three years.But one fact still remained that Swayam had been in love with her. Or was he? She could not find any reason to believe so.
"Sharon, you are not doing it properly." She heard Rey call out. Sharon suddenly came back to her present surroundings. They were in the practice for the performance. She saw Rey approach her. "Are you okay, or do you wish to take some rest. You have just recovered from the accident."
"I am fine Rey." Sharon said. "Moreover, unless I try, how will I ever recover from the accident?"
Rey smiled proudly and hugging her said, "That's my strong girl." He released her, "Do you want me to show the steps again."
Sharon nodded and Rey obliged.
They performed the routine again. Rey turned to the team again and announced, "Okay, guys, so this was the group part. Now for the duet part, pair up with your partners."
Sharon walked up to Rey without a second thought. It was after a while, she noticed so had Kria. Rey turned to Sharon hesitantly and said, "Sharon, you dance with Swayam now."
"What?" Sharon exclaimed. "But I always pair with you. I mean, we were the dancing couple of St. Louise."
"I know," he explained, "But it was a mutual decision to make these pairs. Actually, you and Swayam are the best pair in partner dancing."
"Rey, I am not dancing with Swayam." Sharon concluded.
Rey opened his mouth but Swayam, who was seeing all this, came up and said, "That's completely fine. If Sharon wants she can pair up with Vicky or Bharat. Both of them don't have partners. I will step down for the time being."
"Swayam are you sure?" Kria asked.
"Absolutely." Swayam said with a confident smile.
Sharon stalked off to Vicky and curtly said, "Come on. You are my partner."
Vicky shaking his head, said, "But I don't want to be your partner."
Sharon glared at him before saying very coldly, "You don't have a choice," and pulled him to the dance floor with her.
Swayam passed by then giving a thumbs up to Vicky, who looked very nervous, and walked away with a smirk playing on his lips.
Rey and Kria showed them the choreography and everyone else followed. Amar and Rinni had a little problem, Simi and Nil performed effortlessly. Vicky and Sharon on the other hand, their performance was going completely haywire.
After the third time Vicky dropped her, Sharon pushed him back screaming, "What the hell, Vicky. I never thought you were so utterly useless. I mean is it so difficult to perform one step properly."
"Sharon I am trying." Vicky tried to explain weakly.
"Well, guess what you are failing." Sharon shouted, her breath heavy.
Rey, Kria and Swayam walked up to her.
"Sharon, relax, he is not used to all this." Kria said calmly.
"Yeah, he will take some time, but he will do it." Rey said.
Sharon's breath was coming in short gasps now.
"Sharon, are you okay?" Swayam said.
Sharon did not have time for all this. She pushed everyone away and picking her bag, rushed out of the hall straight to her car. Once she was safely out of everyone's sight. She opened her bag and ransacked for her inhaler.
Damn, she had left it on her dressing table. She had been rehearsing last night, when she had an attack. She was finding it increasingly difficult to breathe; her head was spinning. Black spots appeared in front of her eyes as her vision blurred.
She heard the opening of the door of her car and someone was forcing a cylindrical object in front of her mouth. She tried to hold it for leverage. She felt a liquid sprinkle in her mouth as she inhaled.
Her chest was clearing up. She could breath now. Her heartbeat gradually slowed down and her head felt light but better. She opened her eyes and saw the blurred vision of someone on top of her.
She rubbed her eyes to remove tears and saw Swayam's face very close to hers looking concerned. He was halfway in the car in the driver's seat, with his hand on the passenger seat for support. When he saw Sharon relax, he moved out waiting for her to catch some breath.
"Sharon, I am sorry for being rude to you. I shouldn't have." Swayam said, looking genuinely apologetic.
"Good for you. But that makes only one of us. Because I am not sorry for anything I said. And by the way, I have told you before not to follow me, right." Sharon retorted.
He bent down to her. "Sharon, your life is not a joke, do you get that? Asthma is a fatal disease. You could have..." Swayam's voice faltered.
"Died?" Sharon said. Swayam looked away. Sharon snapped, "As it happens, I am not your girlfriend anymore. I am not your concern anymore. You are completely free to do as you wish."
Sharon started the car and pressing the accelerator pedal, drove out of the parking lot.
Swayam watched her car leave the building. "I wish to be with you," he muttered.

Sharon drove out of the parking lot, hoping to god Swayam did not see her tears. She was way too frustrated with herself. What was wrong with her? Swayam had just saved her life and she acted like a moronic... she couldn't believe she was using the word for herself... a moronic bitch. Why couldn't she be normal with him? Why did she always have to hurt him, when her heart did not really want to?
Why could she not get over her idiosyncrasy? Her complexity and inhibitions were stopping her from going back to the happy life she had forgotten.

She was in the fire escape of her college. There was tumult of emotions in her; she could not name one. What was she feeling? Angry? Hurt? Betrayed? Confused? Whatever it was it made her want to run away from there and never come back. Amidst all this one voice echoed in her ears. That of a man standing with his back to her.
"From now on, our chapter, though incomplete, is over. The book is shut now. And I will not open this book unless you want me to."
That was the voice of a broken man. More than anything else the pain in his voice hurt her. She wanted to run away but her feet were frozen to the spot. The thought of losing him was unbearable.
"And I know you won't open this book, because... you hate me."
She wanted to tell him, she didn't. She hated herself. But her ego wouldn't allow her to.
The ringing of the phone pricked in her ears and she automatically stretched her hands to cut the call. The phone rang again and Sharon finally forced her eyelids to open and saw the name Rey' flashed on the screen of her cell. She reluctantly picked up the phone, "Hello," she said into the phone drowsily.
"Good morning, Sharon." She heard Rey's bright voice.
"It's not yet morning for me. Good night and Goodbye." She said and she was about to put the phone down when she heard Rey shout, "Don't cut the phone."
"What?" Sharon snapped in the phone, now clearly irritated.
"Sharon you will have to come to the academy immediately. There is something very important that I need to discuss with you."
"Fine," she said forcing herself to get up. "I'll be there in an hour."
"Make it half an hour?" Rey said tentatively.
"You are pushing your luck."
"Okay fine, don't be angry. Come whenever you want to. We are here waiting for you."
"Hmmm..." Sharon cut the phone. What was it that he wanted to discuss now... She got up and suddenly she remembered her dream. What was it about?
She was in a classroom. Or a room of some sort. Maybe she was not alone. Who was she with? What did they say? She remembered feeling guilty but why?
Sharon tried to remember. It was not coming to her. Her mind felt foggy. Sharon massaged her temples, squinting, trying to remember what it was. But her mind felt empty as earlier.
Frustrated Sharon looked around for some clue and her eyes stuck on the clock. Oh, shit! She had already lost fifteen minutes. She hurried to get ready.
