She was sitting peacefully on the French window, with a notebook in her hand, which she worked in. her hair were roughly tied in a loose ponytail and were beautifully scattered on her shoulders, for a moment he felt as though he were dreaming. He pinched himself, closed his eyes and opened them again but no use, he could still see the girl he encountered far this morning.
She wore a loose tee-shirt, and white Pyjamas, and it was that moment when she noticed him, she was rubbing her eyes, as if to rub the incoming sleep which might affect whatever she was working upon. It was that moment when he caught her eye, she looked at him, and he stole her breath right from her lungs.
He was still in black, his muscles visible, and a slight twinkle which never seemed to leave his eyes. Her face lit up with a slight smile which she tried to hide, but no use, he had already seen it and was now smiling too, looking up at her, he scrunched his nose. Keeping the notebook aside, she sat crosslegged, facing the window and a hint of smile approaching her lips.
Her eyes glinted with a hint of joy which she failed to hide, her lips curled themselves in a smile which he found cute. He had never felt this pull towards a female.
She still had the same large earrings, and he could hear them tinkle softly in the shallow quietness, where nothing but the crickets spoke. He asked if he could climb up by pointing at himself and then at the window, but she gave him a black cross, which maybe, he thought, meant that he couldn't.
For some minutes, they just stood smiling at each other, as if the world around didn't exist at all, and the were the only ones. But it was then when he noticed her yawn, she was brimming the sleep away, but he was not a fool to not see the sleep which drowned her eyes little by little, and it was the next moment when he smilingly waved at her and she saw his broad physique moving backwards-right where he came from. And the view becoming smaller and smaller every second, she wanted to say something, she wanted to stop him but was afraid, scared that it might cause a blunder if people at her place found her looking at a guy.
They behaved as though marrying her away was a necessity, and as though she were at prison, as if she had committed some hideous crime and it was going to serve them no good if she were kept unmarried. It sickened her. even the slight thought of marriage sickened her, for one simple reason that she did not want to get married at this young age, she wanted to explore, she wanted to make friends, and live her life to the fullest. It wasn't that she had a problem with marrying, but she wanted an open minded guy, the kind of guy who would respect her, and the kind of guy who would let her live the kind of lifestyle she wanted. But she was dead sure that guys here, especially in Punjab, were nothing like that. They were conservative and all they believed was in boring and raising kids, she was not ready to become another one of their servants for gods sake, but the sad part was, that no one in her family, cared about it.
She dug her face in the pillow and cried, she cried because she wished she did not know the reason behind her parents hating her.
It had been quite of a night for him, the image of her smiling at him had not yet drained out, and no matter how much he tried, he could not just ignore the fact that she looked so beautiful while smiling. Smiling for him.
A wide smile spread on his lips as her face flashed infront of his minds eye, he had never felt this way, this pull and all these desires, he did not even realize when sleep hit him.
His night could surely get no better.
The next day, Anurag woke him up at eight in the morning, and no doubt, four hours of sleep did no good to his eyes. Anurag constantly made different attempts of waking him up, sometimes he would pinch him, sometimes he would shake him, and there were times when he threw him off the bed and jumped on him, but Rey was determined not to let him affect his sleep. It had been a wonderful dream after all, he found himself in the Taj Mahal with her dressed in yellow and Green suit, just like how he had first seen her, adjusting her dupatta, which seemed to fall all the time, her skin glimmered in the daylight, which made her even more welcoming, and the next moment he found himself wrapping his arms around her.
"Fine dude! I'm not sleeping!!" he shot up on the bed, looking at his friend, who was now lying on the bed where few seconds ago Rey lied "You are such an.."
"Asshole, I know that" Anurag continued "My last girlfriend told me that, along with a sharp slap"
Anurag adjusted his spectacles then asked "I heard you flew out last night? I'm sure you took my Neverneverland remark too seriously, now didn't you?"
Rey was wondering whether he should tell Anurag about his last nights encounter or not, it was then when last nights memories flew back into his head, he muffled his hair, as the image of her smiling at him approached again, her large earrings and matching bangles doing flip flops as she moved, he still remembered the tinkling sound, and the way she looked at him, with a slight hint of joy visible in her eyes, as though she had been waiting for him since centuries.
"Aww my Peterpan, are you seriously Blushing?" Anurag got up, hitting Rey's arm playfully "Found your tinkerbell again or what?"
Rey smiled, nodding.
"Come on, tell me all about the girl" Anurag said, with a growing smirk
"Dude what the hell! Right when I think I won't tell you something, you end up being the most thoughtful friend ever" Rey groaned as Anurag laughed.

"And she's like so beautiful" Rey said, while walking through the busy roads of Punjab, they somehow crossed a busy traffic, while talking constantly about her. there was a lot going on in Rey's head, but for once, he just seemed to speak his mind. Unlike Anurag, he wasn't used to speaking whatever he felt, no one could know what Rey felt, unless and until he seriously wanted them to know. That's how he was.
"And you're telling me that, for like, the fiftieth time" Anurag rolled his eyes
"Can I help it? she's all that a woman needs to be, quite, beautiful, smart and I must add sensuous" He said
"Yeah yeah, Tinkerbell Bhabhi" Anurag said, once again, rolling his eyes. "Interesting species"
"That she is, a fairy in disguise" Rey said
They crossed a bookstore where Anurag bought two copies of the newly published book "The Old Ruler", it seemed to be the talk of the town these days, especially the female lead, Aubrianne.
He tossed one to Rey, while he, successfully catching it asked "What's this for? It's not even birthday yet"
"I've heard the book is real good, let's give it a read" Anurag said
Rey never knew that Anurag could read, but it was not something that bugged him, his mind was caught up with something else, something which suddenly hijacked his attention.
She.
She was in a yellow suit, again. only that, it was just yellow this time, her hair was styled in a particular way, with the bit of her fringe pinned back, while her long and warm tresses, were scattered over her shoulders, down to her back. Her attire fitted her perfectly, highlighting her curvaceous figure which seemed to lure him. her eyes had a layer of kohl in them, which also, suited her perfectly. Her skin glimmered in the day light, making her skin glow so much that it could even fail the photoshop. Some bangles covered her wrist, tinkling as she moved and grabbed different suits, her yellow dupatta, was spread over her chest, so that none of her cleavage was visible, this somehow reassured Rey, he didn't want other men goggling over her. little dark circles were visible down her eyes, reminding him of the moments which they shared last night.
"Tinkerbell Bhabi?" Anurag asked "Go you jerk, go talk to her"
"What will I talk about?" Rey asked baffled
"Why are you stressing over it? Just go and let the conversation flow" Anurag said "Hey! That rhymed, Go-Flow. Get it?"
Rey stared at him.
"What? Don't you think I could make an amazing poet?" Anurag asked,
"Kill yourself" Rey muttered walking towards her.
He caught her eye pretty early, he was dressed in a blue Tee-shirt, that suited his torso well, his eyes were glued to her, while a hint of smile crept across his face, her mind froze as she saw him staring, she wanted to look away, but her mind froze, it was that feeling that started building itself inside her again. It was that moment when she wanted to wrap her arms around him, let him hold her, let him tell her that everything was going to be fine, and that she would be doing pretty well, yet she knew she could not. She had felt this pull towards him, which no other male seemed to have, he had this ability to make her self conscious even by being in the same room as hers, yes, that's how much he had started affecting her.
She opened her mouth to say something, but closed it again, there was a little smirk that covered the ends of his lips. And the same twinkle in his eyes which never seemed to leave his eyes. The eye contact was starting to send shivers down her, his eyes were dark, dark pool of affection. She turned away, continuing to watch several suits, when she turned to catch another glance at him, she found him pacing towards her.
He was taking unbelievably slow and short steps, and his mind seemed to swim around her, the way she was looking at him. he was finding it hard to concentrate, he wanted to hold her, and never let her go, it was the very first time he was feeling something so intense towards a girl who he was so unaware about. there was a lump in his throat which he couldn't set loose, and he was surprised at what a girl could make him do.
But some feelings were bigger than fear : affection, excitement.
He stopped only when he was a meter away from her, he knew that girls like her: the ones who were pretty and expected their Shahrukh Khans to come with tulips, didn't exactly go for guys like him : the ones who were timid, mostly frightened and extremely shy and average looking, okay a bit above average.
But there was something in her eyes that seemed to have captured him. when she looked at him, it seemed as though he were the only one for her, and she didn't seem to see his imperfections and problems, but she seemed to be genuinely interested in what he was, rather than how extrovert he pretended to be.
"Err, Hey" His voice was meek, almost shallow.
"Hi" she spoke, he was looking straight at her, as if his eyes were pinning inside something, his voice was soft, and he spoke with utmost care.
"How-um-how are- err- how have you been?" he asked, he was not muffling his hair, and the fact that she was looking at him, holding his gaze, was making him more nervous than he already was.
"I'm fine" she said "What about you?"
"I, err" he gulped "Basically, I can't seem to de-decide whether I'm fine or not"
She laughed, and her laugh seemed melodious to him, "Well, a fine does work then" she said.
He smiled, the fact that she was easy to talk to, made him a bit more comfortable. "Uh-well, I was wondering if you would like to accompanymetothe new cafe that opened up next door?"
He had spelled out the last words so fast that it was almost impossible for her to understand what he was saying, but somehow she could make out that he was asking her out to some cafe next door. She stood up, and almost had to take a step back, in order to make some space between them. She straightened her clothes and then said "I don't think I'm allowed to"
"I don-don't quite get you" he said, the lump getting bigger every second now. His eyes seemed worried, scared that she might reject him, like all the other girls did, maybe his nervousness was something that led him to sit alone in his prom.
It was getting tougher for her to reject his offer. Thrilled was an understatement, she was bewildered. She was almost never going out anywhere alone, either her sister, her mother or her brother, someone was always accompanying her, as though she were a criminal set free. And going out with boys, was something she had never really done, he stared deep into her eyes, and he could see it again: the sadness, even though she was constantly smiling, he could see a certain sadness in her eyes.
"I'm afraid" she let out a sad smile "I'm afraid, I cannot go, I'm not allowed to go out alone without permission"
"Not even with friends?" he asked.
She shook her head.
He nodded his head, she could see the layer of sadness in his eyes, and the underpinned sorrow in his voice.
She picked up the polybag which was now filled with suits, and hurried to the cashier, in order to pay. "I'll pay" she heard his voice.
"No it's okay. Thankyou" she said urgently, taking bills out of her purse.
"Let me handle this" he said, his eyes were dark, and she was thrilled to hear the possession and order which his voice held, it reminded her of the time when she first saw him and how he had asked to handle her bags. And she could not just believe, that she was being affected, by such little things, and they seemed to create a hole in her heart.
She stepped aside, letting him make his way, and the pay the desirable amount. But now the question that ran in her mind was, what was she going to do with the money which she had been given in order to buy clothes? She could not just turn up with the money and the clothes and tell them that she met a guy who offered to pay and she agreed. That would win her nothing but some slaps, and being grounded until she was married.
Once he had received his change, they made their way out of the shop, he was still looking at her, and their was a little voice in the back of his head which told him that he was going to be rejected. Her hair were flowing with the blowing winds and she didn't seem to care about it at all.
Her eyes, they had a faraway look, as she looked far away, at the other side of road, or the trees maybe? He didn't know. Also, he figured out, that Anurag was no where to be seen, where was that jerk when he was badly needed?
"Do you mind if I drop you home?" he asked hastily.
She inhaled a breath, then exhaled it as a little sigh then said "I don't think that would be necessary, I'm-I'm afraid we should not stand here for long"
He could not help but ask "Why?"
"If my- I mean, if someone I know sees you and me together, it's going to be a problem" she said "My family-"
"I understand," he interrupted her, the nervousness was now gone, she looked like she was about to burst into tears.
She silently nodded, not making an eye contact "You sure you okay?" he asked.
She looked at him, it was amazing that he seemed to always find out whenever she felt low, it was something she had never experienced before, she was a very introvert person and no one could understand what was going on in her head, unless she wanted them to. But with him, it was like, whenever she felt a spark of sorrow, he could catch her, so easily, that she was almost surprised.
She nodded, If he knew the truth. She thought.
"I think I'd better leave" she said
He nodded "See you" he muttered, as she got into an auto.
"What's your name?" he asked
"Don't you know, it's Kriya" she simply said
"Will I see you again" he took a pause then said "Kriya?"
She nodded, her eyes were in collision with his "You're going for your night walks aren't you?"
He smilingly nodded. "Then I hope you remember the street where I live" she smiled
