First of all thank you for asking this questions as not many I feel are brave enough these days to ask a Muslim girl these questions but instead ask the media to which they reply 'women are made to wear this scarf', 'they are oppressed' etcetc. So thank you for asking. It give me great happiness to reply with full honesty.

Ok as you see about I've highlighted your questions and answer them one at a time so it makes things clear and easy for me to answer and you to understand, inshallah.😊 I'll will try to answer these to the best of my knowledge and feelings.

Why do women have to cover their heads?

First of all I'd say women don't have to wear a hijab. I say this not because I want people who don't wear it to like me, but because I want to honor the hijab with respect. I know many muslim girls who wear the hijab for the wrong reasons, eg because everyone else is doing it, because my parents forced me to wear it, because if I don't wear it people in my sociaty will think I'm a bad muslim, because if I don't wear it I won't get a good muslim family to get married to. The list goes on, but these are the main few I have heard in my life so far.

But I say this. If you love and believe your religion, your God FULL HEARTEDLY you will not have objection to do whatever God tells your or His prophets have advised you. He's the one who made you, so He's the one who knows what's best for you. Simple.

My point is, Islam and good intention to obey Allah must be in your heart and mind first... Hijab will follow naturally all by itself. No need to force. Because for example ( This will be in the story too) if a woman wears the hijab, but still does things that are not hijab ( As hijab also means protection of your gaze, and speech etc) like interacting with men with bad intentions, then what is the point of a piece of cloth on her head? A women who doesn't wear a hijab may be a much better Muslim, by following Allah's hijab of the gaze, speech, but just hasn't started wearing the scarf yet. But her intentions would be right.

The purpose of covering my head for me is to tell everyone straight up that I am a Muslim woman. I am proud of my faith and I love Allah so much that I'm willing to cover myself to please Him. And this in turn gets me the benefits of the scarf. Educated people instantly know in what tone and manner to approach me and that is respect. It's natural. Like when meeting respectable nuns, or even Mary mother of Jesus. She was such a respected and honorable women and the way she covered her hair and body, that no one would have given her a second look. AND that's the point. Every woman honestly doesn't want to be given a second look for how their hair looks or body looks, because to be honest that's not going to last after 20-30 years, but you want to be known and respected for the honesty and poise you speak and for your actions. Women want to be respected for WHO they are as an individual, and not by their looks. And if they do, I feel very sorry for them because it means that they have such low esteem of themselves that they think showing some hair and skin should increase their value and self respect. Every woman should be respected for what they do and what they say and believe as that is what lasts over the 20-30-40 years, not looks.

Finally
Do you have gold, jewels or pearls lying around in your house? Or do you have them in a safe or somewhere hidden from stranger's views?

Where has God placed these gold, jewels or pearls in the world? In trees and bushes where it can be easily seen and attained? Or deep in the earth and the sea, where it's hidden preciously?

My point is, if gold, jewels and pearls are so precious, isn't a women's body, hair and all the gorgeous assets God has given women MORE precious than all the gold, pearls and jewels in the world? Can someone truly put a price on a women's body? Aren't women, be it yourself, mother, daughter, nieces etc more precious than anything in the world? Of course they are. So in that pov it should be covered and protected.

As a Muslim we are made to believe from the Quran that Allah has molded you. He didn't use the word create. He could have as He said He 'created' the skies, but instead He used the word Molded. Molded in the arabic terms means to fashion or sculpt something that is beautiful and perfect. Allah takes pride in how beautiful He made us.

If women wear it, why don't men?
Love this question.

Coming to the issue of why men don't have to cover themselves like women do. This question is usually poised as an equal rights question etc which is usually unfair as men and women have different aspects about them, eg women have the endurance to give birth and men are naturally made to be physically stronger than women. But for me that's not the point at all.

First of all God has made men and women equal in His gaze and obviously as He has made us, He knows what is best for men better than men know for themselves and He knows women better than women know themselves. Therefore He knows exactly what men needs and He knows exactly what women needs.

For example 2 children of a parent argue and so the parent comes to resolve the issue by giving them different tasks. But one child says 'no it's not fair, you're siding with him/her!'. As a parent he/she might possibly be siding with one or the other OR he/she knows best, but the point is the parent is Human, so it's natural for them to even accidently side with one than the other.

But when it comes to women and men, women usually say women have more restrictions than men. Therefore this debate is between man and woman, so the resolver in this case is God Himself. As Muslims we believe the Quran is Allah's/God's word so anything He says will be more fair than anyone can ever be. In the chapter Nisa (Chapter Women) of the Quran, it says that men shouldn't want the rights and restrictions that women have, and women shouldn't want the right and restrictions that men have. Allah provides men according to the good deeds they do and provides women according to the good deeds they do. Allah then says we should ask of his favor. Therefore Allah is saying don't vie for one another's things because it's not a competition between man and woman. It's a competition of who does more good deeds.

In other words I as a Muslim can come up with many things that I feel that men have the right of, just as many muslim men may pick on many things women have the right of. But the thing is that isn't the point of being a muslim. The point is to trust Allah and that He's fair with all of us. Who can be more fairer than the Judge of all judges.

Why do girls (like Khushi in this Story) wear the hijab out of their own free will?
As Khushi's beliefs in this story is inflenced from my background, I'll answer this question from my POV.

I wear a hijab to be identified as muslim. It makes me feel strong and obediant to Allah.

This in turn also lets others know that I am a woman who holds high belief in her faith, but it's also like a subtle warning to others too to say 'this women is not a pushover and is not to be toy-ed around with and should be respected.'

Some may think I believe that if someone doesn't wear a hijab/ covers themselves they are targets of abuse like rape. This is 100% not the case! Hell no!

Because Rape's main factor is NOT sexual attraction. It's about disgusting forceful power, domination and hate. It's a disease in the head. If sexual attraction/dress code did have a major influence on the act of rape, then only young ladies/girls would be getting raped, not older ladies in their 80's/90's and even sometimes women in hijabs. And this is obviously not true. So I don't believe that a women's dress appearance is the sole reason for rape etc. No way. It's never the fault of the victim, but of the assaulter.

The Quran says that women of the hijab will be protected, but the word 'hijab' doesn't just mean a piece of clothing on the head. It means the women's attitude, gaze, speech etc. Take Khushi in this story for instance. Her attitude is firm when coming to her religion, not rude, which is why Arnav backed off her knowing that she was confident in her beliefs and definitely not a pushover. Lol I always say that usually the two most stern voices a person would hear is from their mother and their older sister, if you have on or someone like that. 😆 And this is what all women should be like when they present themselves. Not to scare anyone, but to tell others that they are not naive, they are strong individuals who are honest and say how they feel and should be respected. Everyone should be, but I'm just emphasizing that Islam encourages it. There will be scene coming in the next chapter where Khushi has a funny encounter with this guy in the office.😆

But yeah overall I wear the hijab primarily because I love Allah and if he can do so much for me, can I not do as He asks ( which is for my own benefit) and cover myself? My actions and the way I speak and my attitude is what should be given attention to. Not my looks. I and every woman should realize that they are worth more than all the jewels, gold and diamonds in the world put together.

But all of this is just my and inshallah the true islamic view. I'm not saying everyone sees it this way, but this is how it should be or else there is no point. Hopefully I have answered the best I can I would say more but I don't want to load you with more. 😆 I love answering questions like these so please do ask if you have more. I'll be more than happy to answer.

If I have made any mistakes or made you feel I'm being rude, please do forgive me as a sister as I didn't mean to be rude if it came across that way. I'm not a professional either,😆😆. I'm just being honest in my view. Allah is All Knowing and All Forgiving.

x
