Psyche and Love!!

"...long time ago there was a Princess, who was famous in all over the world for her incomparable and ethereal beauty. So beautiful was she that even demigods did desire for her. Soon the desire ignited the passion and turned into the lust and led to a nasty competition between them. Seeing this kind of effect, the goddess of beauty become infuriated and decided to teach a lesson to that mere, mortal princess.

So she descended onto the earth and appeared before the King, the father of the Princess. She told him, "due to the infamous beauty of your daughter all demigods are neglecting their duties. Even they have started to compare her beauty and femininity with ME!" the goddess shouted. "Abandon your daughter and sacrifice her to the god of Ocean. Otherwise I shall ask him to wash away your kingdom this instant." Saying this, the goddess disappeared.

The King, the Queen and the other sisters of the Princess's became sad and devastated. But the Princess who was named as Psyche (means the soul) accepted her fate and got ready to be sacrificed. His father forbade her saying, "You are now 18. Soon your marriage shall be announced with one of the handsome and worthy Prince of this Land. How could I send you away? How could I leave you and your life to be doomed for eternity?"

Psyche answered, "But yours subjects are more important than me. So are my mother and my other sisters. If I have never done anything wrong, then the God shall help me."

Psyche was brought to the mountain top beside the sea sore by the royal guards. But even they too didn't have the heart to throw the Princess into the sea. They left her tied at the mountain cliff and prayed for the God's mercy. Sensing the delay in his sacrifice, the infuriated sea god ordered the Northern wind to blow stronger and push the princess off the cliff. But as Psyche fell from the cliff a blue butterfly came flying towards her. It started flying circling her and soon grew to a giant size and caught her between its wings and carried her in its back to a huge palace. Within that palace everything was made of gold. There were large rooms decorated with king-sized beds with comfortable mattresses and pillows, cushioned couches and chairs, beautifully crafted glass mirrors, a large marble-top table and upon of that there were each and every kind of food, vegetables and fruits and beverages. There were wardrobes made of teak full of exquisite silk and linen fineries. The jewelry boxes made of fragrant wood were full of expensive ornaments and gems. There were all luxuries one could ever imagine to have. Psyche ate some fruits and drank some grapes juice and patiently waited for the owner of that palace to arrive. She was too tired to be awake. When her eyes fluttered open she could find only darkness but nothing else. After some time she did realize instead of darkness she can see everything clearly. As she became curious she got up from the couch where she was rested and started to find something to make fire. But she was greeted by a very strange man. She couldn't see his face due to lack of light but could realize his handsome features from his tall, muscular stature.

Psyche's Mind!

The man approached her without any prejudice and introduced himself as the owner of palace. He explained about the revenge plan of the goddess of beauty and reassured her that he was the one who had saved her earlier and would be with her and save her forever. He asked her whether she would accept him as her husband and would stay with him. She hesitated as she didn't get to see the man's face. So she asked his real name and introduction. Seeing her hesitation, finally the man answered, he was one of those demigods but he didn't desire her for her beauty and femininity. He also drew to her for her nature and innocence. To appease her he produced some jewelry made of her favorite flowers. Finally she shyly admitted and submitted herself to his wish. They spent that night and every night from then as husband and wife, to loving and cherishing each other.

Psyche was very happy. So happy was her life that she easily forgot her past and everything. But she had one little complain. She couldn't get to see her handsome husband's face nor knew his name. He arrived at the palace at the dusk and left her at the very moment of dawn. Though the palace didn't succumb into the darkness she didn't get to see her husband's face either.

One day she wished to see her parents and sisters. As caring husband the man couldn't refuse her and gave her permission to bring them there while he would be away during day time. She complied and invited her parents and sisters there. Knowing about her well- being and her fortune her parents were elated but her sisters got jealous. Some day later when her sisters again came to visit her they sowed the seed of suspicion into her mind against her husband. Being doubtful on her husband's intention she this time demanded to know her husband's true -self. Being persuaded by his wife finally the man decided to reveal the truth! He told her that he was the god of love and son of the goddess of beauty and femininity. He was drawn towards her not only by her ethereal beauty but also by her inner charm and innocence. Later when other demigods challenged each other to have her only for them and his mother planned to kill her, he couldn't help himself but came and rescued her to here, in his own paradise. He lovingly held her in his arms and reassured her that none even his mother couldn't step into his sanctum. So she was safe there and advised her never ever stepped out from the palace.

Discovering the truth Psyche was so elated and excited that she couldn't content her happiness and once again submitted herself to her extraordinary demigod husband, the love god himself.

Later that night, when her husband was asleep in their bed holding her closer to his heart, she awoke from her sleep restlessly. Her sisters' suspicion already bloomed into a plant of doubt. If her husband was the god of love, himself then why he kept his face hiding from her? Didn't as his wife she got the right to behold her husband's face. So she rose from her bed carefully not waking her husband and lit a candle which was supplied by her sisters that day. She brought the burning candle closer to the love god to see his face. He was so beautiful and charming that she couldn't take her eyes off from him...and carelessly the melting wax fell onto Cupid. And that led a speedy decoy of his heavenly body, because his body too was made of wax which couldn't come to contact of the burning heat. He awoke from his sleep but didn't curse her. Only warned her not to go outside of the palace and he would be back soon, he left the palace, left her."
