"We're gonna get into a lot of trouble." Alex whispered to James who was quite confident that the difficult part of the task had ended as he led Alex back to their dormitory.

"No, we're not. Unless you tell them."

"Of course, I won't. I know how to keep a secret." Alex replied proudly. "But if-_" Before he had finished however a siren rang out.

"What was that?" Alex asked James momentarily who had frozen.

"It means we have a minute to return to our dormitory, run!" He broke into a run himself as Alex followed him. Neither of them cared how much noise they were making. They just had to return to their dormitory now.

"We're here!" James shouted as the dormitory door came into view. Within seconds James was running at it shouting out the password at the same time, and in the next second he had run straight inside it. He could not believe how close they had come to get a detention. James stopped running doubling up catching his breath by the fireplace. "That was close, wasn'--_" He started speaking after a moment turning back to see Alex and froze. Alex wasn't inside. He ran back to the dormitory door and pulled it with all his might but to no avail whatsoever. It had been sealed.

On the other side of the door, Alex pushed the door as well but it didn't work. He knew if he was seen out of bed in a curfew he would definitely find himself in a detention. But he couldn't go in, where will he go? As he thought the answer came to him almost instantly. He could go to Porch's hut. He knew Tom was there. He could hang with them. That way no one would punish him.

He broke into a run. He had nearly run out into the Castle grounds when he saw someone in the grounds. He didn't even look at their face and jumped behind the open gates to hide from sight. The huge double doors easily concealed him as slow and panting footfalls neared and passed. He wondered who had been gasping in pain but understood quite clearly that if he was caught no one would care much about the misery he would be in.

The moment the voices faded, Alex broke into a run again to Porch's hut and freezing where he stood at the sight of it. It was black and smoking. What had happened here? He didn't dare to enter it but he had to know what was going on. As he stood there he felt as if there was movement in the forest. He had never been inside it and he had no intentions of going in there. He waited for a few minutes not knowing what to do then realized that if something bad had been happening no one would want him out here. He decided to return to the Castle. Detention would prove to be a lot less scarier than feeling like he was being watched.

He walked slowly back to the gates but as he neared them he heard a commotion. He had only just neared enough to be able to see what was happening when he saw a... he didn't even know what it was. He had frozen where he stood at the sight of it. What turned him white was that the thing actually turned to look at him and a shriek escaped his mouth as it lunged at him with a grin on its face. Now he knew what it was, it was a wolf.

"Accio!" Everyone turned at the sound. It was Tom. He was barely on his feet with his wand out. He looked at Harry intently. "I will not let that thing take a hair off of my Godson." He could hardly utter a word and yet he managed a sentence. For the first time in his life, Harry saw anger flash upon his face and saw a glimpse of Sirius in his face. He could recklessly risk himself for Alex like Sirius had done years before for Harry.

"What did you-_?" Harry had just started when something whizzed right past him to Tom. It was a school broom. Before he could stop him Tom jumped on it and flew right out of the door after the werewolf.

"What are you all waiting for?" Harry turned to the rest of the Army who all summoned a broom each. "Follow him, he would be on his tail by now. Porch, I want you on the Castle gates. Nothing goes out!"

As the Army flew out Harry turned back inside the Castle with Ginny in wake. "Where are we going?" Ginny asked.

"To get the Elder wand."

Tom who had jumped on to the broom without a thought had no idea how to hold on. He was merely holding it as tight as he could, staring down at the grounds intently when he saw it running into the forest. He turned his broom in an effort to dive but nearly fell off it. He could hardly fly a broom under normal circumstances and right now he could barely see. The pain was blinding him and he had no way to stop it. All he knew was that he couldn't let it hurt Alex. He followed it from above the forest as the Army catching up with him dived inside it after the wolf. Tom could see it run fast enough to stay at a great distance from the Army and from up there he saw the Army turn a different direction. What were they doing? Was he the only one after it? Where was Harry?

The wolf changed course and ran right out of the forest into the grounds towards the Green Houses. It knew it was trapped inside. It had obviously tried leaving the Castle before but hadn't been able to. What was it trying to do? Stage a ransom? At full moon? Tom doubted it. Whoever this werewolf was, the full moon was going to cloud its judgment. All that thing will be after was bloodlust and he wasn't going to get Alex, not tonight.

As the wolf ran inside one of the Green Houses Tom dived instantly not realizing he had no idea how to land and by the time he understood that it was too late to pull up. The crash was inevitable. A foot away from the glass roof of the Green House he let go of his broom intentionally. Shooting inside the Green House headfirst would hardly save himself let alone save Alex. He needed to be alive to attract the wolf to his blood.

Tom crashed through the glass back first, going through the glass and onto the wooden table that usually held mandrake pots. He had covered his head through the fall. The commotion had attracted the attention of the werewolf. It had turned to look at Tom momentarily forgetting Alex.

Tom who lay in a debris of glass and wood had nothing left to move a muscle. He stirred a little and felt as if he had broken every bone in his body. His knees had been saved as he had gone through the glass and the table back first. But the rest of him was broken, scratched, slashed or simply bleeding out. He slithered out of the debris toward the wolf as it stared at him hungrily. What he couldn't understand was that why hadn't it already pounced him. What was it waiting for?

He crawled ever nearer but the wolf simply stood and stared. Tom was only a foot away when his heart sank and he realized why was he still alive. The wolf had frozen at the lucrative sight of so much blood but it couldn't feel the real hunger yet as it couldn't smell it. There was a thick glass between the wolf and Tom. Tom had crashed into the wrong Green House.

"Alex..." Tom looked behind the wolf from under its feet and saw Alex crouched in a corner white with fear. The wolf had simply left him there and he didn't have the nerve to run. "Run!" Tom shouted but to no effect whatsoever. Alex probably couldn't hear him. Not through this glass. Tom tried pulling himself up on all fours and felt his entire body complaining. His shoulders simply denied carrying his weight as well as his ribs, his back and he spat out a mouthful of blood. Nevertheless, he tried again and felt small splinters of wood and shards of glass piercing his skin and his flesh. Every inch of his body was covered in these and yet he couldn't give up. He made one wild movement, jerked himself up and slammed himself onto the glass.

The wolf attempted to lung at him and collided with the glass. For Tom it was improvement. Only if Alex would run. Alex wasn't even looking at him. His eyes were tightly shut.

"Alex, Run!!!" Tom shouted with all his might and yet Alex took no notice of him. "Alex..." Tom slid back down the glass as tears finally ran down his eyes as the wolf backed away from the enduring glass turning back to the only flesh available to it.

Tom pulled out his wand. Something would have to work. Where was the Army? Where was Harry? He tried sending a patronus but as the wolf neared Alex all his hope faded. More tears escaped his eyes as he furiously banged on the glass door with his hands trying to draw Alex's attention. Alex had to listen to his voice. He pointed his wand at his own throat. "Sonorous! ALEX RUN!!!!" His magnified voice shook the entire Castle as it finally got carried to Alex whose eyes snapped open to find the hungry wolf howling over him.

Now that he wanted to he couldn't run. He was trapped. The wolf was an inch from him. It extended its claw and pierced his cheek. "You'll be easier to munch!"

"No!" Tom shouted but realized his magnified voice had returned to normal. His magic wasn't working. He was too weak. He was helpless. "Alex! Alex!" He kept shouting but to no use. Suddenly the wolf stopped and sniffed deeply. It turned away from Alex towards the door. But why? Tom however saw Alex's chance to run. He pounded fiercely on the glass to gain Alex's attention. Alex looked at him and covered his mouth with his hands as colour left him again. Tom must look like a heap of flesh and blood but right now, he hardly cared. "RUN!" He shouted again as Alex blinked not knowing what to do. "Go! Go the other way!"

His spell hit the glass and it cracked enough for him to punch a hole through it. As he slithered through it into the Green House, the wolf turned to him instantly. He must have looked like cooked meal to it as it howled loudly and ran at him with its mouth open ready to bite his face off when he was only half way through it. Tom shut his eyes tightly.

"Stupefy!"

One moment the wolf was flying toward him the next it had fallen right on top of him quite stunned. The impact had shattered the rest of the glass leaving Tom under a stunned wolf and with shards of glass piercing his remaining flesh. The last thing he had felt before everything went black was thick glass penetrating his side as the hairy wolf landed on his back making it impossible for him to move out of the way. After that all pain came to an end.

Harry felt quite foolish at leaving the Elder Wand behind. He walked at a fast pace. As he and Ginny entered his office he rushed to his desk and pulled out the wand putting the Phoenix Wand inside it safely. He was about to walk out of the office when he stopped suddenly.

"Why are we stopping?" Ginny asked him worried that about Alex.

"The cloak. I think we should take the cloak. We might need it. It's in our closet."

"I'll get it." Ginny nodded turning around quickly making to the trapdoor to their room. It was only after a minute that she realized something. She turned back to Harry. "You don't keep it in..." But she didn't have to say anything else. She had understood what he was doing. "Don't do it." She ran to the door but before she could make it out Harry had shut and sealed it. He knew Ginny could not undo a spell done by the Elder Wand.

"I am sorry, Ginny. But I don't want you to be where you were minutes ago." He hesitated leaning against the door. He knew he was being selfish but he would never have forgiven himself if Greyback had got to her. "I love you." He wished he could make it up to her later.

Harry strode down the spiral staircase breaking into a run and sending a patronus to Ron and Hermione as he went. The next minute he was out into the grounds that had no sign of a wolf or anyone else for that matter. Even Porch wasn't here. He stood observing trying to think. The Army had chased the wolf into the forest after Tom. He strode towards the forest when his eyes fell on the other side of the grounds and he saw the Whoomping Willow quite still. Someone had frozen it. May be Greyback had gone to the Shrieking Shack instead. There was no harm checking it out while the Army was searching the forest.

Harry had only been inside the passage leading to it for five minutes when it all shook by Tom's magnified voice. He ran out that instant.

Yeah he doesn't 😕 but some people just have it tougher than others. May be Alex is one of those. N Fenrir's questions will be answered later 😊
