This story is based on story 'The Actress' by Ilya Ehrenberg. I tried Swaron version of it.
The Actress
The small city of Venice which was once famous for its beauty was now crowded with refugees of war.
Every house was filled with refugees. Sharon's big house was now home for refugees which she hated as she preferred loneliness. She was a theatre actress. Their group performed to entertain the newly population of city.
Sharon didn't like the bearded men n their talkative ladies which wouldn't clap a single when they finish. Her director says that she will go very up but Sharon didn't believe his statement. As they chanted the same robotic love lines for refugees everyday who would wait for postmen carrying the news of their loved ones.
After few weeks when they were packing after a performance. Their group was told to perform in front of warriors.
Sharon felt pride as they will entertain those who are sacrificing their lives for the city. A new excitement was spreaded in group.
They travelled to the country side. The scenes which she had only heard n now visualizing them was heart wrenching. The after effects of war.
All of their group was broken after seeing countryside environment but the enthusiasm in the warriors for their performance couldn't help themselves to perform.
Those warriors loved each of their performances n would give applause which gave the encouragement.
Her group mingle with warriors listening their war stories.
Sharon was walking with one of the warriors after the performance. Swayam, he was a chemist before the war.
They talked a lot even there was nothing to talk as the silence in the that environment haunted them.
Swayam wasn't attractive as the guys who had asked Sharon in past. He was a simple n decent person. But their was something which was unusual about him.
Their group was taken back as the war conditions worsened.
While performing in front of those all uninterested people Sharon missed the warriors n their applause. Especially she missed Swayam.
As she recognized feelings of her heart towards Swayam she wanted to tell him.
At first in dilemma that guys approach first she waited for something from his side but when she got none. Sharon made herself understand that world is advancing. She could write to him.
With courage she wrote to him but after so many days reply didn't come. She thought that maybe the letter didn't reach to me.
After day or two she received reply.
She was very elated but her happiness was short lived after reading.
He wrote that they aren't meant for each other. It is just an attraction he is just an ordinary chemist who doesn't match upto her level as she is a growing actress.
Disheartened Sharon took a decision that she will give up her acting career to be with him. It wasn't easy decision for her but for Swayam she can do this much. She wrote to his military camp address about her decision.
With every visit of postman she looked expectantly for his letter n when it came it was her letter unopened with a tag that address not found. Her heart broke in many pieces.
Sharon got back to her acting believing destiny plans. She missed Swayam, his talks but kept all this in her heart.
One day after a hectic schedule she saw a letter n box named for her. With curiosity she opened the letter, her hands were shivering. It was from an hospital nurse who wrote about Swayam.
"U may not know me but I know you. Swayam was injured n there were less chances of his survival. While curing him he told that you are his fiancee n asked you to send his watch. I hope you got the box.
I can empathize with you in Swayam's death but humans are mortal. Hope you get courage to live further n take care.
Nurse"
Sharon was crying by the time she finished reading she was happy that Swayam referred her as his fiancee.
She quickly opened the box, held the watch feeling his hands beneath it she wore it.
Swayam was a unforgettable memory which she will preserve forever.
Sharon took 2 days off reminiscing their memories. On the day of performance masking her vulnerable state she spoke those lines of love purely feeling the meaning.
The crowd roared in applause.
"You have become perfect Sharon." Her director complimented her.
Sharon knew the reason. She has experienced the pain of separation from the loved ones as similar to refugees.
She missed her Swayam.
