But that being said, I am truly touched and overwhelmed by the way you all have followed this story and even until even a few days ago demanded for updates! Thank you all so much! I don't deserve all the love that this forum has given me.

CHAPTER 18 : Armageddon
"Save your advice coz I won't hear,
You might be right but I don't care,
There's a million reasons why I should give you up,
But the heart wants what it wants!"
------
As the first rays of the sun at daybreak hit his face, Randhir took a glance at the mirror. His eyes swollen, his face drained of life, his hair disheaveled...he looked wrecked. All his life he had aimed at getting revenge, and when that revenge was now staring at his face, he didn't know if he actually wanted it.
"I am an avenger...I can't move on until I get those bas***ds who created this havoc in my life...I need to avenge them...mom, dad, chacha, Ishita..."
They say that hitting rock-bottom has its benefits. You can't possibly descend any further. The only option is to rise back up...and to rise stronger. Randhir had lost almost everything...What more could he possibly lose?
"My life? Huh! I lost my life a long time back...this is mere existence...I might as well exist with a purpose..."
But...he had a purpose...a reason to live...Her.
"She is better off without me...She deserves happiness...I can't drag her into the darkness that envelopes me...I can't risk her life...I won't...Sanyukta Agarwal will not be a victim of my mess..."
And that sudden determination was enough to make him rise and take a deep breathe. Today was the day when he would finally meet the people who destroyed him.
"Even if they kill me, I won't go down without taking a few of them first..."
-----------
Parth Kashyap still couldn't believe it. This was too shocking to be true. How could he believe that his own father was the one behind all this.
"Should I ask him point blank? No. What good would that do? Dad...I don't want to even think about it...How could he..? And...Ishita is dead and my father is the cause...Oh God...!"
Parth took one last look at the specimen copy before him and stood up. He took a deep breathe and steadied himself. A picture of him as a kid sat on his father's desk.
"He is my father...And he is a murderer...I know what I have to do. Perhaps this is the path I was meant to follow...", he thought and left the room.
----------------
Sanyukta Agarwal woke up that morning with a headache.
"Sanyu, you look dreadful", commented Kaustuki.
"Mat bol yaar...I had come here to study medical, but looks like I have joined some investigating agency", Sanyukta groaned.
Kaustuki sniggered and replied, "Cons of falling in love with a man who had a bad past!"
Sanyukta winced at the mention of Randhir. It reminded her of Ishita's death and the events that ensued. She was still unsure about her current status with Randhir.
Kaustuki noticed her expression and asked, "Is everything ok with the two of you?"
"I don't know Kaustuki. Right now, all I can think about is Ishita and how she gave up her life for Randhir.."
"But Sanyu, you risked your life too remember? And Ishita knew Randhir all her life. Heck her family is involved in this foundation. But you? You did everything selflessly. I am not demeaning what Ishita has done. But you would have done the same and Randhir knows that."
Sanyukta sighed, "Yeah he knows that. That's why he is pushing me away..."
"But Sanyu, that's a good thing. This is way beyond your league. Any more involvement could get you killed even..."
"I can't stay away Kaustuki. I love him and whether or not he wants me to get involved isn't his choice alone. I am already involved..."
The conviction with which Sanyukta said the words took kaustuki aback. She realized that Sanyukta's love for Randhir ran far deeper than anyone realized.
"I hope Sanyu doesn't do anything stupid", she thought.
-----------
Karan's phone rang waking him from slumber.
"Hello", he mumbled sleepily.
"I miss her", came a muffled sound.
Karan sat upright and realized that Smriti was crying. In a flash the recent events came back to him.
"There's nothing we can do can we? But we have to be strong for Randhir's sake", he replied.
"Karan, do you think we'll ever know the people responsible for all of this?" asked a distraught Smriti.
"I don't know" came the soft reply.
Smriti shook her head in frustration. The loss of her best friend had taken its toll on her.
"She was more than my best friend. She was my sister..."
"Where is Randhir?" she asked.
Karan's eyes searched out his room. Randhir wasn't there.
"Umm..he isn't in the room. May be he has gone out."
"Keep an eye on him, will you?"
"Yeah Smriti, i will. You take care and I'll see you at class, ok?"
"Ok.."
Karan hung up the phone and came out of the room. He wondered where Randhir was.
It wasn't like Randhir to just go out without telling anyone. And to top it, even Parth was missing.
"Could it be that the two of them are together? But where?" wondered Karan worriedly.
He was about to go out searching for them when his eyes landed on an opened envelope on Randhir's bed. Frowning, Karan picked it up and a letter addressed to his friend came out. Karan read the letter carefully and with each word he read, his eyes dilated and his mind reeled in all the deadly possibilities.
"SHIT! That's where Randhir has gone. He went after the killers...The idiot!" exclaimed Karan. Immediately he dialled Smriti's number. They had to catch up to Randhir fast if they had even a slim chance to getting their friend back alive!
---------
Sanyukta kept thinking of ways by which she could make Randhir realize that he couldn't just push her away like that.
"Haan Karan, bol" came Smriti's voice from the corridor. Sanyukta strained her ears to listen to what the girl was talking.
"What do u mean Randhir unke peechhe gyaa hain?"
Sanyukta's heart skipped a beat at what she heard.
"WHAT?", yelled Smriti, "What threat? What letter? Parth kidhar hain?"
By now, a panicked Sanyukta came out of her room and watched as a panik-stricken Smriti conversed with her boyfriend on the phone.
"I am coming. We need to go...Now.." she said with finality and hung up. As she was about to retreat to her room, she came face to face with Sanyukta.
"Smriti", said Sanyukta worriedly, "If Randhir is in trouble, then I wanna help. Kaustuki and Jiggy can help too...Please..."
Smriti debated for a moment. She did not trust the girl. More importantly, Sanyukta knew nothing about their past. Was it a good idea to drag her and her clueless friends to this mess?
Little did Smriti know that Sanyukta was already aware of the whole situation and had known about their past for months.
Finally, after a few moments of internal conflict, Smriti agreed and said,"We need as much help as we can get. I can't give u details but know that Randhir's life is in danger and we need to act fast."
Sanyukta gulped at what she heard, but didn't let Smriti know that she was aware of the gravity of the situation. She knew that if Randhir's friends realized her involvement, they would freak out and waste more time.
"I'll meet u guys at the gate, I'll bring my friends. We will get RD back, don't worry", she said and rushed to Kaustuki.
10 mins later, Sanyukta, kaustuki & jiggy met Smriti and Karan at the FMC exit.
"Where's Parth?" asked Sanyukta.
"We don't know. We are assuming he is with Randhir", replied karan.
And off they went to the location given in the letter.
----------
Randhir's mind kept going back to the moment he stepped outside FMC. The med school was his parents' remnant. He had lost his parents at the tender age of 10, but he knew that they had always wanted him to follow their footsteps and be a doctor and serve humanity.
He had fulfilled their dream...He was en-route to becoming a brilliant surgeon...
"But that isn't my destiny...I was always meant to be an avenger...This mission of mine may cost me my life, but I don't care...I can't move on without knowing the people behind my parents' murder...And if i don't find them, they'll find me and eliminate me..."
Deep down Randhir knew that the people behind the whole mess were related to him and the foundation somehow. They were bound to be people close to him. But who?
Before starting for DefCol, Randhir had gone to his house. If he was going to do this, he might as well go prepared. He went to his dad's chamber and unlocked a secret drawer, hoping against hope that no-one had discovered the safe yet!
"Thank heavens", he exclaimed on finding what he was looking for.
He took out the hand-gun and loaded it with a file of bullets. He then tucked under his shirt and came out of the house. He took one last glance at the place he had grown up, before walking away into the night's darkness.
"This is it...I am going to meet my fate..."
It was 7:45 pm when he reached DefCol (Defence Colony). The streets were empty except for a few bystanders. Randhir wondered where they had asked him to go exactly. The location wasn't specific.
He kept strolling the streets until he reached a lane that was eerily familiar!
"This is where they shot my parents", he thought with a jolt! Was history repeating itself?
"So u have come", came a deep voice from behind him. Randhir whirled on spot and came face to face with the man he had been unknowingly searching for since 10 long years. He had replayed this moment countless times in his mind - the moment he would realize just who had murdered his mom and dad. Each time he played out a different scenario. but nothing, absolutely nothing could have prepared him for the shock he received on finally learning the truth!
"Kashyap Uncle..." was all he could utter, the shock leaving him almost paralysed. Parth's dad...his best friend's father...his parents' most trusted associate.
And suddenly he wished he never learnt the truth after all! Because one truth had rendered his whole life a lie.
