BANNER CREDITS-Immortalloveđ
Zoya frowned in her sleep when scorching rays of sun fell on her eyelids. She tried opening her eyes blinking to adjust her vision. Hours of bus journey had taken a toll on her and she was feeling drowsy still and her body ached...especially her neck from sleeping in such an uncomfortable position. At that point she realized that her head was resting somewhere. She tilted her head up and her doe eyes met with the chocolate brown orbs that mesmerized her. She was sleeping with her head on Asad's shoulder which might have rolled down in her sleep and here was Asad...looking unblinkingly at her while she sleeped. Zoya rose her head up and smiled a little at him. They would've been lost in each others' eyes if not for a harsh interruption breaking their trance...
SHIMLA... SHIMLA...SHIMLA BUS STOP...
Zoya jerked back and straightened herself. She spoke to Asad in a sleepy voice, "We've to get down here. Come...let's go!" Asad obliged easily and got up. Zoya carried the luggage while they got down.
After waiting for few minutes, she received Dilshad's call and she instructed them to get into the cab that was waiting for them. They kept talking for some minutes when Dilshad informed her about the fate of Rashid and Dilshad...
"I am so proud of you Zoya...you did what I dreamt of doing to them. You made me really happy. Okay now you take care and call me after reaching there."
"No need to thank me Khala... I did this out of humanity...they needed to be taught a lesson!! Make sure they rot in jail always!!" Zoya said sternly.
Asad and Zoya reached Kasauli, a little later after dusk. Zoya looked around and was amazed at the views she could get...street lights glimmered making the surrounding mountains look like they were adorned with jewels. When they reached their cottage, Zoya simply fell in love with it...just by looking at it once.
Asad was hesitant entering the new house, he looked around uncertainly...sweat beads forming on his forehead...he gasped on seeing the darkness all around. Unaware of his inner turmoil, Zoya came and stood beside him happily...
"Do you like it Asad? It's our new house...your Khala's house!!" she explained to him, looking at the house with a ray of hope in her eyes...that she'll be able to mould this house as per her wish. Though it was not her own but she will make it worth living while she's here. Zoya would have remained gazing if not for the gasps that broke her from her dazed state...Asad was gasping and trembling in fear. Zoya panicked seeing him all troubled...
"Asad...Asad!! What happened??" She tried holding his hand but he jerked her hand and retreated back. Zoya slowly walked upto him so as not to scare him...he was sitting on the doorstep, leaning on the wall. Zoya slowly knelt in front of him and took his hand in hers. His eyes widened initially but when he felt Zoya drawing soothing circles, he closed his eyes, visibly relaxing on feeling the calming sensation coursing through him. When Zoya got up, leaving his hand, his eyes shot open but she extended her hand and he took it effortlessly...getting up and walking in the house with her. Zoya switched on the lights and Asad relaxed beside her...he snuggled closer and put an arm around her waist. Zoya's breath hitched on the sudden contact...though they were nowhere near to the normal husband wife relationship, still his closeness did weird things to her. Zoya shrugged off the feeling and walked him to the couch, making him sit and turned around to go but before she could, he grabbed her hand and she waggled her eyebrows at him. He pulled her slightly towards him and she sat beside him...Zoya kept looking at him intently. He laid his head in her lap and whispered, "Never leave me angel...never!!"
Zoya's eyes stinged with tears, hearing his innocent request. How she hated herself at the thought of breaking the trust of this innocent man. He deserved to be loved and pampered but was she, being a broken soul herself, capable of filling him?? No...and that's why she'd promised Humeira something...
FLASHBACK...
Zoya went to Humi who was sulking on the prospect of Zoya and Asad going together to Kasauli.
"Humi..."
"Stop it Zoya!! Stop being crazy...oh yes!! What a couple?? One is crazy literally and the other is crazy for helping others...?
"HUMI!! Please! After knowing everything about him, how can you say this? How can you be so heartless?"
"Zoya, I don't have a big heart like you. You are helping those who ruined you?"
"He didn't do anything!! He was not even in his senses...how can you blame him?"
"Exactly!! He's not in his senses...you won't go with him...FINAL!!"
"Humi...please understand. I'd promised to help them and Khala is right. She's risking her own life for us...No! don't you interfere...yes she's doing it for him...but didn't she think about me...my safety??"
"Okay, but please re-consider your decision. You'll be with him...take care of him. But who'll be there for you??"
"Humi...my Allah miyaan is with me and moreover you are just a phone call away. I'll inform you if anything goes wrong."
"Fine!! You won't stop?? But you've to promise me something..."
"What?"
"Zoya...I'll resign from this job as soon as possible and find a new job near Shimla. Just as all this finishes...you'll come with me...without any arguments...no looking back!!"
"But..."
"No ifs and buts!! Promise me now...or you are not going!!"
"Okay promise! I will leave Asad as soon as Dilshad Khala comes back to take care of him..."
FLASHBACK ENDS...
Zoya hadn't noticed the stream of tears that cascaded down her cheeks but Asad had...then how could he see his angel crying? The contact of Asad's cold fingers with Zoya's wet cheeks jerked her out of her thoughts. He wiped the tears and patted her soothingly, just how he had seen his Khala doing to him when he cried for his mother. Zoya got up and asked him, "Are you hungry? You must be! Let me bring something to eat..." She mentally patted her back that she'd kept some food as a stock for the journey. She arranged some food in plates and they both ate in silence. Asad changed while Zoya cleaned up and tired from the long distance traversed, she just laid down on the couch besides Asad's bed and was lulled to sleep immediately.
New day brought new challenges for Zoya. Just as she came out after a long, relaxing shower, she realized that she'd to start her day buying grocery and other essentials. She quickly peeped into Asad's room and on finding him sleeping while his mouth slightly opened, she smiled and went to the market.
When Zoya returned, she was holding numerous bags which were difficult to handle for her. As she was about to open the gate, she heard someone shouting, "Hey! You...wait!"
Zoya turned around and saw a chubby, fair complexioned girl waddling towards her. As soon as she reached, she bombarded her with numerous questions, "Who are you? When did you come? Are you the owner of this house? Do you live alone?" Zoya chuckled on her impatience...she reminded her of Humeira...and by her appearance she could conclude that she was pregnant.
"Hi, I'm Zoya...I came yesterday with my...umm..hus..husband. This house belongs to his Khala. I suppose you are my neighbor?"
"Yes yes! I am Najma Shareef. I live in that pink bungalow...yes that one!!" she said pointing to her house. I live with my mother Mrs. Haseena Baig since I am pregnant and my husband Imraan works as a naval officer."
"Nice to meet you Najma..."
"Same here!! Do you need any help in unpacking? My mother will be more than happy helping you."
"No need! We don't have much. Thanks anyways."
"Ok! I should get going or Ammi will worry. Why don't you come over for dinner tonight with your husband?? We could know each other well."
Zoya was going to agree when she remembered about Asad, "He won't be happy to see so many new faces around. He'll definitely become anxious" she thought to herself.
"Uhmm...actually Najma, we're really tired due to our long journey. I hope we could meet some other day."
"Sure! See you soon then. Bye..."
"Bye!"
Zoya sighed and went inside. She kept down the goods and went to check on Asad. She found him sitting on the bed, staring at nothing. She walked upto him, his back was facing her and hence he couldn't see her, "Good Morning Asad!" she said jovially...fresh morning breeze of Kasauli had made her feel good after the heaviness prevailing in her life.
"Ahhh! No! No!! Please leave me!!" Asad shrieked in horror and Zoya recoiled back. She'd forgotten in her happiness that Asad had to be handled delicately. Her sudden interruption into his personal space had startled him and he was scared beyond limits.
He tumbled down the bed and sat back leaning onto it, shaking his head side to side. Zoya was shaken seeing his condition, she tried calling him...but in vain. She tapped his shoulder lightly and whispered, "I am sorry Asad...so so sorry! I didn't want to scare you..." But Asad kept on shivering and lamenting.
"Asad...Asad...I am Zoya...Asad please listen to me!" she said to him holding both his shoulders firmly...nothing happened.
"Asad! I am your Angel..." she said a bit loudly. Asad stopped and looked up at her. His eyes still held some fear but he was calmer than before. Seeing him relaxed, Zoya continued," Asad! I'm ur angel...Zoya! I am sorry...I didn't want to scare you. Please calm down." Asad seemed to be listening...
"Please Asad! Don't be scared of me...I won't hurt you. We're away from those bad people...no one can harm you now. Just relax!" she said in a sophisticated manner to convince him...and he simply nodded.
ONE MONTH LATER...
Days turned into weeks and so swiftly a whole month passed. Zoya and Asad became even closer than before. Asad had learnt calling her Zoya and she'd learnt to make his favorite dishes. He was now more comfortable living with her as compared to one month back when they'd got here. She still forgot his condition sometimes and squeal happily sometimes but he was trying to cope up with it. But the one thing that she couldn't deal with was his nightmares. Almost every night Asad would shout for his mother...pleading his father to leave her...begging to end his life instead of hers...Firstly, such distressing incidents were like a nightmare for Zoya herself...but she'd grown used to it in the past month. She spent many sleepless nights, comforting him and crying over his and her sorrows. The few things that kept her going were Humeira's phone calls, almost each day and Najma's endless talks. Zoya would sit with Najma in their lawn, each evening and sometimes even Haseena joined them. She had been a mother figure for her...she often taught her cooking and sewing which according to her is a must for every housewife. Najma sometimes insisted on meeting Asad but Zoya somehow dodged the topic each time. Not knowing Asad and Zoya's plight, she sometimes shared about her initial days of marriage with Imraan...how it was a bliss. She teased Zoya about the dark circles beneath her eyes which according to her were a tell-tale of her late night rendezvous with her husband. Zoya would somehow smile but her eyes shamelessly spoke about her miseries...which Najma was unaware of but a mother in Haseena had recognized. One fine evening when Najma had gone to see her brother, who was a doctor, working in Shimla, only Haseena and Zoya were sitting, having their evening tea. Haseena grabbed the opportunity to ask about Asad.
"Zoya beta, when did you get married?"
Zoya replied meekly, "Just a little more than a month..."
"Oh! So you shifted here just after your marriage. Yours is a love marriage?"
"No aunty, it was arranged."
"Arranged marriage is also very fascinating. We get to discover something or the other about our partner each day. Isn't it?" Haseena asked and observed Zoya's reactions carefully.
Zoya thought about her first day in Khan Villa and how Asad had hit her, her running away and Dilshad's revelation about his past. Then she remembered each time when he flinched on seeing her...his panic attacks in darkness and his nightmares. Tears formed in her eyes while she recollected those painful memories.
"What happened Zoya? Are you alright?"
"Jee..Jee aunty!" she fake-smiled.
"Zoya, if we share our pain with someone, maybe the person can help lessen it."
"Aunty...I am okay!"
"As you wish Zoya but if you want to pour your heart to someone someday, I assure you that you can choose me."
Zoya was dumbstruck by her words. She'd never found a companion and true friend in her own mother...Shireen was out of question and she didn't get much time to spend with Dilshad who was anything close to a mother she'd ever experienced. At this point Zoya realized that not everyone is bad in this vast world...it's filled with many good souls...we just have to look for them. Her chain of thoughts was broken when she heard Haseena getting up to go back.
"Aunty...actually he...he's ill. I mean...he..." she didn't get how to explain Asad to Haseena.
"It's okay beta...you can tell me."
"Aunty, he'd had a troubled past and so he's little cut off from his surroundings. He doesn't mingle with people easily..."
"Post traumatic stress disorder?"
"Huh? Y-Yes. How do you know?"
"My son Aazad is a psychiatrist and a counselor at a hospital in Shimla. I've heard him talking about many such cases."
"Oh!" was all Zoya could say.
"Zoya! I don't know much but I can definitely suggest you one thing...nature has an infinite power to absorb all negativity. Make him experience that...take him out. It won't harm him...Kasauli is a beautiful place...you can find peace and solace here."
Zoya pondered over her words for few minutes and then questioned, "But he's afraid of new places and noise..."
"Come with me. I'll show you many calm and isolated places nearby. Almost no tourists go there. You can take him there. It'll do him good."
Haseena and Zoya walked to few places in the vicinity...talking about various important and non-important issues. At the end when Zoya returned home, she was glowing with a new found happiness. She'd found a new way to make Asad comfortable. All she did was smiling to herself and at last she raised her hands in prayer and spoke to her Allah Miyaan, "Let me make a way to his happiness. He needs to be happy..."
