Part- 37

"Di"

Khushi looked up startled. She didn't expect Abhi at this time, when he should be at work. She smiled and ushered him to come inside.

Abhi took the seat next to hers and started without beating around the bushes, "Di why are you really here?"

Khushi only could stare at her brother not able to understand the question completely or understanding a little maybe.

Seeing her bewildered expression Abhi shook his head and elaborated what he really wanted to know "Di I know you just didn't come here because you wanted to be with us. I can see that you are hiding something."

Khushi's eyes grew a little wide but she stayed calm to hear what her brother had to say.

Abhi came down on his knees before her and continued holding her hands "You are hurt and in pain Di. You are struggling to smile before us. You are always lost since you have come and hardly came out of your room. Even the tunes you play are gloomy and melancholic. I love you and I can't watch you suffer like this. It hurts to see you hurting."

A few drops of tears escaped and slid down from her cheeks and Abhi knew he was there. He had finally succeeded in cracking the hard shell of his Pari Di which kept all her emotions and things hidden from them, from him well and for long.

"Di you can confide in me. Your brother has grown strong enough to help you, to protect you. Trust your Abhi Pari Di." He pressed her hands and waited for her to speak.

For a long time silence rested in the room. Abhi stayed seated near Khushi's feet and she stared at her brother with eyes filled with tears and little disbelief. But then she smiled and nodded. Abhi visibly sighed and came up to sit back by her side but never left her hand.

Khushi started from the day she had met Avinash Malik in Mumbai...

Arnav looked up hearing the knock and found Jay after asking the person to come in.

Jay walked in, his face little wary.

Arnav stood up and came around the table to greet him. As they shook their hands Jay's hard earned patience gave away, "I won't ask why, though I am more than curious to find out, but tell me how and when?"

Arnav showed him the sofa where he had sat last time too discussing about Khushi.

Arnav begun after Jay denied his offer for coffee...

Abhi took his Pari di in his arms and embraced her tight who was crying bitterly. He could hardly keep his tears in check but it was time that he showed his strength. Give her the shoulder to cry upon for a change. A lot had happened behind his back in his Di's life and it clearly looked a mess to him in that moment.

He had come to know about Avinash Malik much later when his mother and Pari Di were sure that he could handle the news. In that time the anger and helplessness he felt was much less than what he felt now.

What his Pari Di had done with Avinash Malik, he deserved that may be much worse and honestly he felt proud of her for what she did and how.

Yes he felt angry thinking that she put her life in danger and never let him get the wind of it but what made him helpless that of all the people she fell in love with Avinash Malik's son and it had to be so be complicated.

He sighed and decided that he would do everything to help her in whichever way he could or she asked for. He tightened his hold on her as she let her pent up emotions out.

Jay heard Arnav's side of story and sighed. Without commenting a word over the situation he stood up and said "Give me three days maybe I can find out some clue."

Arnav nodded. He knew that he can count on him. He shook his hand before he left and locked the door behind him.

For long he was holding onto the facade of ASR and only he knew that he was almost at the breaking point and three days were too long to start with.

He dropped down on his knees and hid his face in his hands.

After a while when he removed his hands his eyes were red as lava and his face had left all color and wet with fresh tears.

He stood up repeating the promise aloud once he made to himself when Khushi had confessed that she was scared to lose him.

"I won't leave you Khushi not now not ever, and if you decide to leave me, then I will make sure you come back to me... he saw in her eyes for a moment as he continued in his mind Because I know you too cannot live without me and without each other we are as good as dead."

"I will find you Khushi and then you have to answer me why you made us suffer like this." he ran a frustrating hand in his hair as he swore.

Arnav tried to sound relaxed when he heard the most awaited knock on the door.

"Come in" he urged the person to enter and tried to calm his rapidly beating heart.

Jay walked in and made an attempt to smile.

One look at his face and Arnav knew whatever information he had wasn't pleasing.

Abhi knocked her door before entering and found her sitting on her bed smiling at him. He smiled at the smile, because it was a genuine smile after almost a week.

He was glad that she trusted her with her secrets and amazed too that she finally decided to confide in him rather their Ma. But who was he fooling?

Their mother was wise and quite smart too for their good. She didn't need words to understand her children's pain. A look was enough for her to know their heart and hurts. She had proven it in a small conversation with him a day back he still remembered...

"She trusted you make it worthwhile and help her."And Abhi only could stare at their Ma.

She smiled at his bewildered expression and cupped his face with a hand as she said, "I know when my kids are hurt but only exception is that, for the first time she has needed us. She gulped before continuing, needed you to lean on, so..." She had left her sentence hanging there. She didn't need to finish because one look at Abhi and she knew she didn't need to.

She had left and it had taken a moment for Abhi to decide his next course of action. He had made the call he was meaning to for long, but dwelling over all the possibilities but no more.

So he was here to tell what he had decided. He took a seat beside her as he started...

Arnav stormed inside Raizada Mansion and after asking HP he ran up the stairs to the study.

Mamaji stared at his nephew who looked the storm himself. So the time had come he was hoping to come sooner. He sighed and stood up from his seat and Arnav came to stand before him. He asked the first question, "Did you go to meet Khushi in the night of party at Sheesh Mahal?"

Mamaji sighed and nodded. He was waiting to say the truth for so long but never had he thought that he would feel so small while telling the truth.

Though Arnav had an idea why he was there that night still he wanted to hear from him so he waited with a grim face and Mamaji started to speak...

"Di I have arranged for your admission in a business school" Abhi stated.

Khushi smiled. She wanted this. Something to take her mind away from the current situation or at least she could try this way.

"Won't you ask which school?" Abhi asked not finding enough response from her.

"I trust you Abhi." Only thing she said and Abhi smiled. He wanted to hear this.

"Yes I went to meet her that night. I went to show her something." Confessed Mamaji.

"What?" Arnav questioned again.

"The file where it was written that her father was a fraud and had taken twenty lacks from Raizada textile account by treachery, before he left his job. The file had a copy of the F.I.R Raizada Company filed in the area Police Station against her father." Mamaji said the half truth. He had another file with him that night which too he had showed to Khushi but that was supposed to be a secret between him and Khushi.

Arnav's face changed its color. His fare complexion suddenly took a shade of red as he hissed out, "A report which you filed after her father was dead or better say murdered. A report which you should have filed against my shame of a father Avinash Malik. I can't believe you used that report as a weapon to shun Khuhsi out of my life, then why you wanted me to find her when you wanted her out of my life?"

Mamaji smiled ruefully as he said "It wasn't me. It was never me who did all these. I was just a puppet in the hand of the person for whom name and fame were everything and even now."

Arnav frowned, She? Whom his Mamaji is talking about?' A name came in his mind for a fleeting moment but he dismissed it as soon the thought came. She can never do this.'

Mamaji walked back to his chair and continued "Trust me when I say this that, Khushi is the best thing happened in your life but someone doesn't think the same as us."

He scoffed, "She thought she could write fate and change destiny but never learnt from her mistakes."

"Who?" Arnav whispered. Scared to hear the answer. He stood stupefied as he heard his Mamaji confirmed his doubt...

"Devyani Singh Raizada, My mother, your Nani."

"But Abhi..." Khushi couldn't form a proper sentence. Too many question looming in her mind and she was confused which to ask first.

Abhi understood her predicament and launched himself to put her mind at ease.

"Di, believe me I was thinking about this for a long time and now I have decided I want to do this for myself and for us." Abhi assured Khushi.

"But why now?" Khushi had her doubt that he was doing it for her and she never wanted her brother to compromise on anything for anyone and her.

"Because I think it is time." Abhi said firmly and she waited for him to continue, "Di we have stayed afar under the same roof long enough. And only now I have realized that the distance has become too much. I want us together. We- Ma, you and me are a family and we have only each other. Then why should we let the distance grow. I want us to be together and close, where we belong, live like a family should. Together, for each other."

Khushi stared at her brother as he spoke, "I have seen Ma craving her children together. I have seen her worrying for you yet staying with me because I am the weak one and needed her most. I have seen you giving up on everything even agreeing staying all alone for my sake. I know you preferred staying aloof but not alone. You needed Ma as I needed her."

He walked up to the window and gazed outside as he continued, "You know I feel angry sometimes that why you are so selfless and giving? Why you are so protective about me... us? he turned, But now it is my time to play the role and yours to seat back and relax and it is my choice that I gladly made. Let me do this. Let me get my family back together."

Khushi had lost her power of speech. She could only stare at her brother. For the first time she was seeing her brother in a new light.

She knew that he had grown but for the first time she saw the man he had become. The man of the house. The strength and protector of their small family. The man capable enough to take care of his family in every way.

A feeling of pride surged through every vein of her body. A pride of a parent and sister both and she couldn't help but smile through the film of tears. A smile which made Abhi contented like he had achieved something best so far.

"As you wish Abhi, I am with you." Khushi affirmed making her brother broke into a huge grin. He nodded and left the room with sprint in his steps and Khuhis smiled broad to her thought, My big brother.'

Arnav couldn't believe his ears that his Nani could do this to him and that too for what, because she thought Khushi wasn't fit for her family. The family full of dark history.

Khushi was his only light in that darkness and she wanted to send her away from him and then she claimed to love him.

He staggered back and Mamaji hurried to support him but stopped short at the sight of Arnav's face.

It was painful to watch his agonized face.

The despair of breaking the long placed beliefs and trust in that moment of truth was writ large on his face.

The distress of betrayal and of losing everything in one blow was so evident that he stepped back.

Arnav left the room as he came but Mamaji stood still in his place. He knew Arnav's sudden silence was the onset of the cyclone which would sweep away the veil over the truths and would take all the lies and ugliness with it.

Devyani Singh Raizada's illusion of royalty and her long built sandcastle would meet the dust soon.

He smiled bitterly and decided not to inform Khushi about Arnav's vulnerable condition. She wouldn't be able to bear it, he thought kindly.
