"I will be there at 9 o' clock sharp. You try not to be late." a husky voice said over the phone. A voice so maddeningly sensual it infuriated him and aroused him at the same time. She was still punctual. That was one trait that never changed. Well, he will surprise her this time. He will reach the sets an hour before her. After all, it was not every day that dreams come true.
He looked after the arrangements once again. He wanted to welcome her properly. Of course, he would tell her it was a joint effort by the whole team. Only he would know how he had painstakingly arranged for her favorite red velvet cake and white orchids. It has always been this way.
He remembered meeting her for the first time during the Maha audition. Glass, cool inscrutable glass was the first thing that had come to his mind. She was lithe with long limbs synonymous to that of a dancer. He had thought her pretty enough, not in the "come hither" way but more in a haughty, clear cut way that would make any man want to mess her up a little. They had not interacted much until Terence decided to pair her up with him.
He remembered that fateful first rehearsal well enough. It was the day he started to yearn in a quiet corner of his heart. It was the day he had met his fantasy for the first time. At first, she remained still with concentrated eyes on the choreographer who seemed unnerved by her steady gaze and stoic face. He wanted to laugh. He did not blame him. After all, that is the reason why everyone had nicknamed her "dragon lady". But then she started to move and he had a firsthand look into the fire hidden beneath that glassy exterior. She twirled and he was tossed in to a whirlwind. She moved like poetry and he found himself slipping away as fast sand from a close fist. His heart lurched as he witnessed a wide range of emotions cross the face he had previously thought "impassive". She had burnt him with her fire and he had readily let her do so.
And then came the first performance. It was before this performance, which would go down in history as one of the best duets on did ever, that he had seen a different side to her. She was pacing across and lastly, tentatively approached him.
"Do you think will be okay?" he had no idea the whispered question would shake him to the core. She normally exuded so much confidence that he believed he had imagined the momentary display of nervousness and vulnerability. But then he saw her eyes, that want to be reassured and he too her into his arms and gently whispered "don't worry. We will kill it out there". That was their first step to becoming what they were now. That was also the step where he had sealed his fate and his position in her life as "the reliable friend"
