Hey guys. I'm back with another oneshot inspired by the song "Once" by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova. its basically something i wrote for the time just after Rey comes to know Kriya's truth. Personally I think this is one of my best works yet, so please do comment. If you want PMs on my future and ongoing works as me as a buddy. Enjoy
KR one shot - Once
Her movements matched the rhythm perfectly, a beautiful routine slowly building up from scratch. Her hair flowed down her back, in waves, black and dark brown curling at the ends. A little flower was pinned up in the middle of her head, holding little pieces of her hair here and there. Her bright eyes focused on the mirror in front of her but it didn't even look like she was trying. She effortlessly danced to the tune she always did, knowing the moves by heart from all the years of practice. The sun from the glass window made her hair shine, her white dress seeming brighter than it really was.
Too busy in her own little world, little did she know someone was watching her. Her admirer was hidden behind a curtain, too far away for her eyes to see. Although, even if he had been standing right in front of her she wouldn't have noticed, too engrossed in her dance to even bear a glance at the world around her.
The boy behind the curtain watched her in awe, tears rimming up in his eyes. His brown eyes shone in the sun, showing more emotions than they had in his existence. His messy, brown hair was stuck to his forehead, sweat dripping down but he didn't even seem to notice. His large hands held onto the curtain for support, the situation being too much for him to handle.
His eyes remained on the petite figure matching every beat as she flowed with the music. His mouth hung open as if he was in shock; he stood rooted in place, watching the beautiful girl he once loved, the girl with whom he cherished so many moments he couldn't even count, the girl who had his heart up to this day, and would hold possession of it for eternity.
Eternity.
It sickened him how easily people thought that a relationship could last for eternity. A relationship was so delicate it could hardly surpass the hardships of life, the everyday obstacles, much less last for eternity.
Rey, what will happen to us?' Kriya asked as she looked up at her boyfriend with wide, brown eyes.
What do you mean?' He asked, running hi s hand through her hair.
Do you think we'll end up like those couples, the ones that eventually fight so much that they can't bear the sight of each other?' Rey chuckled at her innocence as he thought of a reply.
Never. We'll last forever.' He said simply.
Promise?'
Promise.' He said without hesitation, as she snuggled closer to him.
Rey would've done anything for her, anything. He would've died for her but that was once before. He broke the promise, along with the beautiful angel's heart. He couldn't even begin to count the number of things he had done to hurt the girl he once claimed he loved. He had become a monster, the hurt and the betrayal becoming too much for hi m to handle.
The one thing that had kept him grounded was her, and he pushed her away. Her beautiful laugh echoed in his mind and he closed hi s eyes trying to rid himself of all the memories rushing through his mind. He felt dizzy, the room around him spinning, as a tear rolled down his cheek.
The irony of the situation hit him like a ton of bricks. This was the exact situation they had been in before, but with switched positions. He was the broken one now; he was the one watching from the sidelines while the love of his life lived her dream
another tear rolled down his cheek as he felt anger at himself for being so weak, anger at letting her affect him like this even after all this time. Before he realized what he was doing, his hand hit the glass on the table, the object shattering into a million pieces as it hit the floor.
The music stopped immediately as if the song ended on cue, silence falling around the room. The only sound that could be heard was the racing heart beat of the broken lad, his pulse deafening in his ears. His breathing was ragged as he watched the girl turn around, her eyes immediately widening at the sight of him.
"Rey?"
"Rey?"
"Just leave me alone."
"But -"
"No, I want to be alone, can you not understand that?"
"I want to help you..."
"I don't need your help! Just get the hell out of my life! I've done everything to go away from you but you never seem to get the message"
The last words he had ever said to her rang through loud and clear in both their minds. If there was ever a time he wish he could take back it would be the moment he uttered those words, the moment he lost the most important thing in his life.
Kriya's eyes roamed his features, her eyes drinking in each aspect of his beautiful face. His lips were tight in a line, his brows furrowed. His hair hung loosely over his eyes and she had a sudden want of running her hands through his messy locks, but she stopped herself.
Once, once
Knew how to talk to you
Once, once
But not anymore
If this were a few years back, they'd be running into each other's arms, telling each other, how much they missed the other, and what had happened while they were alone. But it had been way too long; way too much time had passed to make this encounter anything but awkward.
They both just stood there, their eyes never leaving contact. A tear rolled down Kriya s face one that she couldn't stop and Rey yearned to wrap her up in hi s arms and never let go.
"Kriya..." He said softly, her name rolling of hi s tongue just the way she liked it, and that was all it took, for her to completely break down. Tears rolled down her face one after the other at full speed. He took a step towards her but what broke his heart was she mimicked his action only backwards.
Rey..." Her voice cracked, her legs hit the stool in the corner and she knew she was trapped. Rey stepped towards her once again but this time she made no move to back away. His heart beat was echoing loudly in his ear, tears rolling down his face as he approached the girl he once called his own; the girl he once loved. The girl he still loves.
He stood right in front of her, his breath fanning her face as she closed her eyes. Rey gently tugged her waist towards him, one hand caressing her cheek lightly. She leaned in to the warmth his hand offered without realizing. His finger slowly ran down her cheek wiping any signs of tears, his eyes glued to her heart shaped face as if he was trying to memorise each little part of it. His thumb finally reached her lips, running over the chapped lips. He leaned in a bit, and at that her eyes snapped open.
"Rey." She warned. His grip on her tightened just as she was going to move backwards, he knew her every move before she even thought of it. She sighed in defeat as she realised there was no escaping the boy.
"I..." He started, but for the first time words failed him, he didn't know what to say to make the situation better.
"Kriya," He started again. "Part of me died, when you left. I don't know what to do with myself. I was a mess but I didn't have anyone to blame but myself. i kept hurting you because i thought i would hurt less that way, but it never worked. It was my entire fault. I am so sorry; I know a million apologies won't be enough, but I really am truly sorry." She just listened to his plea, her mind working, making one of the most difficult decisions.
"You don't have to forgive me, I don't deserve it. I honestly don't deserve you. I f**ked up. But just know that the reason I didn't contact you these two years was that I didn't know where to look and I thought you used me. I, just, I am sorry." His hand dropped from her face, as he moved a few steps back then turned around completely planning to make a quick exit. He didn't want to break down; he didn't want to let her see how weak he really was; he didn't want any of this.
Kriya caught his arm, and he stood in place, not turning around but not moving away. She slowly reached her hand out to touch his cheek, turning him to look at her. She wiped his tears off and a trace of a smile could be seen on her lips.
"Always the strong one... When are you going to learn, Rey?" She pulled him closer and placed her lips gently on his and he immediately responded. His strong arms surrounded her pulling her as close as possible, leaving not even an inch of distance between them.
The kiss was short and sweet but full of all the love that they had to make up for, all the words left unspoken, and every single thing that they hadn't told each other. It was the most meaningful kiss they had ever shared.
"I am sorry..." She put her fingers on hi s lips to silence him and just rested her forehead on his. He tightened his grip around her waist, as if he was scared that if he let go she'd disappear.
"All those fights, those silly arguments, we could do so much better, Kriya. I could do so much better... Can we start over?" He had a hopeful glint in his eyes, like a little boy in a candy story, he had never looked so vulnerable. She nodded and he smiled. He left a peck on her forehead, followed by another onher nose and soon little tiny kisses were left all over face making her giggle.
"I love you so damn much." He said meaning every word. "You left me for two years, you're stuck with me for eternity to make up for it." He said and she smiled though her tears.
"I love you." She said burying her face in his chest.
"Rey?"
"Hmm?"
"I forgive you." Those words had never sounded sweeter
