Yeh lo, I was looking so much for your update. I was also on verge of pm-ing you asking about update. Then I went back and read the part 4 since I was anyway on the thread and then reread the note that you have written about the next update being on Sunday. A really Duh moment for me. Now waiting for Sunday to come soon.

"... and you should've seen how well she was dancing, Sim! Just imagine, our old 'chamkili' as La used to call her and the transformation is incredible! Waise toh she's such a sweetheart, aur jo chamatkar ussne kiya hai, ASR ke saath, usske baad jitna bhi taareef ussko milein, kam pad jaayegi. Humara Arnav Sir aaj jaise bhi hai, aur iss office ka maahaul jaise bhi hai, sab ki credit sirf aur sirf Khushi ki hai", commented Pam, as she recounted the fund-raiser event she had been able to attend as the 'plus-one' of one of the junior managers.

Sitting at the table next to the two girls, Dia looked up from her lunch. She had been walking around in a haze since the last evening, and while she had been the perfect assistant to Suman that morning, seeing that the CMD was away on a meeting, her mind had been relentlessly replaying what she had been witness to the evening before. Having spent the whole night searching frantically on the web for anything and everything she could find on the enigmatic Khushi kumari Gupta Singh Raizada, she had come up empty handed, except for an old video of her falling into her husband's arms at some function in Lucknow. The passion that was palpable between them twisting her gut and not making her able to watch the complete news video, she had been able to turn up only a couple of Page 3 stories on their wedding.

But now, apparently she had been sitting next to a treasure-trove. After depositing her plate and collecting her dessert, she came sat next to the two girls, and after the introductory polite smile, sat quiet until Sim suddenly exclaimed, "Hey, tum ASR ki MT ho naah?", and turning to Pam, continued, "Tumhe pata hai, Pam, suna tha ki ASR aise chillaya tha iss par jaise woh Khushi par chillaatha tha!"

Seizing the chance, Dia asked, in all innocence, "Kaun Khushi?"

Staring at her as if she had sprouted two heads, the two girls exclaimed, "What?!Kaun Khushi?!", and while Sim was rendered speechless, Pam said snidely, "How many Khushis do you know, who might be connected to AR? Mrs. ASR, of course!"

"Oh, I'm sorry, mujhe pata nahi tha ki woh yahan kaam karti thi."

It was Sim's turn to do the snide remark, "How else do you think ASR met her?"

"Umm, I thought they met in Lucknow or something, fell in love and got married?"

"Lo! How simple! Tumhein kya lagta hai, ASR par impression banana itna aasaan hoga? They worked together for a very long time before they got married, that too after ASR broke his engagement with Lavanya. Once Khushi came, there could never be anyone else for ASR", Pam supplied.

The conversation progressed in this vein for the next fifteen minutes and finally, Dia got a capsule summary of Arnav and Khushi's love story. Her infatuation already having been dealt a killer blow last evening, Sim and Pam's rosy rendering o their boss's and old colleague's story nailed it shut.

It was a very subdued Dia who went back to the CMD's office that afternoon. While Arnav noticed her lack of perkiness, as long as her work was not affected, he dismissed it from his mind. And thus proceeeded the remainder of her rotation with the CMD. Even though she was able to put up a brave front in the office, as soon as she reached her quarters, it was Fida who had to take on the role of the consoler. Even for Fida, who had been an amused spectator of Dia's innumerable crushes and her jubilant proclaimations, it was plain as day that she had indeed fallen for ASR, and fallen hard. But the restraint and maturity with which she handled herself made Fida sigh, "Jab sacha hota hai, toh pyaar kuch alag hi hota hai! She'll hopefully emerge a stronger, better person from this experience."

12 weeks later

"... and now, coming to the most awaited moment of this evening, let me invite our esteemed Chairman and Managing Director, Mr. Arnav Singh Raizada, to declare the winners in the annual 'MTMP - Management Trainee with Most Potential' award", Aman announced.

Looking to his side to see his brother smirking at him, Arnav sighed as he recalled the bet Akash had placed the day before, as he predicted the winner. "I'm getting affected by Khushi's pagalpan! No other possible reason", Arnav thought as he thought of how he had risen to take the bait. He got up and walked up to the dais, and taking a quick glance through the assembled MTs and AR's executives and their families, he got down to the matter at hand.

"Dear All, thank you for gracing this occasion with your presence and let me make the announcement without much ado. This award is based on the points awarded by each executive to each trainee who spent a portion of their training rotation under them, and this year, the award is to be shared by two of our trainees, Mr. Jai Patel and Ms. Fida Ali!"

Amidst the thundering applause, Fida and her co-winner walked up to get the certificate and the memento. Turning around to thank the audience, Fida caught sight of Dia, back to her old form, letting out a piercing wolf-whistle, and breaking into a huge grin at her old friend's success. Shaking her head, Fida thought back on the long journey of Dia's getting back to normal - she was the same old, mad, Dia now, but there was something in her smile that spoke of a trail through fire, an underlying steel that had been forged in her climb out of her own personal hell.

"Congrats, Ms. Ali", a voice spoke at her shoulder. Jerking around to see ASR himself smiling at her, she gaped, only to have him continue, "My brother had predicted your win."
As she thanked him, he asked, "You know that winning this means you can choose your department and location of posting, right?"

And at her affirmative nod, he went on, "Actually this year, we almost had a third winner - Ms. Dia Doshi. You both won by just one point lead. So she will also be offered the same choice, as a consolation prize. Anyways, good luck!"

Shaking her hand, Arnav walked off to talk to Jai, and finishing that yearly pep-talk, climbed down to go to his wife and sister-in-law, who were patiently waiting for their husbands to join them for the sumptuous dinner laid out for them. Plopping himself down next to Khushi, Arnav asked, "Payal, where's that husband of yours?"

Pointing to Akash, still on the dais with Aman, Payal replied, "Yahan aa raha tha, lekin Aman ne phir se bulaakar le gaye. Lagta hai kuch serious discussion chal raha hai."

Soon enough, Akash too jogged down to their table, and at his brother's questioning look, explained, "Nothing major, Bhai. Apparently, both Jai and Dia had asked for posting at the Noida office, and Fida too requested, but there were only two vacancies, so there was a little confusion."

Sitting up straight, Arnav exclaimed, "What?! They don't want in the HQ?! What sort of MTs are they? Jo power centre se door jaana chate hai?"

Chuckling, Akash replied, "Wahi toh! So finally, since Fida had been the one to request last, she had to back out, and she's opted back for the HQ. Apparently she's thick friends with Dia and wanted to go with her, but was willing to adjust."

Shaking his head, Arnav went back to his meal, sending a sideways comment to his wife, who had been listening intently, "Dia is the same girl you crusaded for, you know. She turned out real good, actually, I'm sort of surprised that she's not opted for the HQ. I wouldn't have minded getting her to assist Suman."

Looking over at the girl in question, who was laughing away with a besotted looking Jai Patel, Khushi smiled, "Nope, unko koi interest nahi hogi yahan kaam karne ki."

And just then, Dia looked over, and spotting Khushi's smile, raised her glass in a silent toast, of good wishes and of farewell. The tender smile on Dia's face making Khushi's breath hitch, Khushi sat still, sudden memories of Lavanya filling her mind. As she tried to figure out why and how Dia reminded her of her old friend, she too nodded back, wishing all the very best to the girl who she had fought for.

That must have really hurt. So Dia found somebody to get the real backstory out - who better than Sim & Pam! Finally the infatuation ended without actually hurting anybody. Dia needed to grow up from her constant crushes and she learnt it the heard way. But seems the future is bright for her 😉

Thanks for not making her a villain. It would have been a lot messier if it was.

I'm hoping that you got chutti. So will you update at least twice weekly right?? 😳

adorable ending...really liked it...without any unnecessary drama from Dia's side and with her heartbreak minimum...I am really happy for her...loved this SS so much...thanks for the pm...
