From that day Astha had completely merged her in books trying to forget that night which could be the best one of her life but turned out to be worst... But not for a single day , she let Shlok feel doubtful...

Hey Astha, exams are near, you notes are ready na? I need them... Varun asked Astha...

Yes, I know yaar.. I am preparing notes, will be ready by tomorrow... You will get your copies...Aalsi logo khud kabhi kuch mat karo... She chided them...

Ya, I was really thinking, if you would not be my friend, how many supplies I would get? Shlok wrapped his arm round her shoulder... Astha felt quite uncomfortable which could not go unnoticed by Varun and Gauri...

Hey Shlok, come I show you something...saying Varun made him move away from Astha...These days whenever Shlok try to be close to Astha, either Gauri or Varun make him go away by one reason or another...

Ok guys, I am going to library to complete my notes...you people carry on... Astha spoke, Gauri you are coming? She looked towards Gauri...

K... I will waiting...saying Astha left from there...

While Varun and Shlok went to canteen for snacks...

Half an hour had passed when suddenly there was shouting outside in the lawn, Varun and Shlok also went there to see what was going on...

Rajesh, what happened? Varun asked one of their classmates standing there...

Yaar, someone told, In College Kitchen, gas cylinder had caught fire , being next to library, that spread in library section...but due to almost evening, there were very less students in library... Fire brigade has been called...

What? Shlok and Varun were shocked...

Astha was also in library, Shlok shouted... worriedly, Shlok tried her number, it was not reachable...

Both Varun and Shlok ran towards library, while security guards were stopping the crowd near library... When Gauri too listened the scenario and joined them... They were looking for Astha here and there but could not find her anywhere. Her phone was continuously not reachable...

They all were shouting for Astha, but could not find her anywhere in the college...fire was spreading in the books in the library, its door was shut from outside to stop spreading of fire outside considering all the people have come out.

When they all could not find Astha anywhere, they came back near library again and started asking people who had come back from library, no one had seen Astha coming out.

Shlok was getting restless... Varun, I am going inside...

What? Varun was shocked... Shlok stop, fire brigades are on the way, soon they will control fire...

But if anything happened to Astha? No... I can't let her happen anything...Shlok denied with sweat on his forehead and tears in his eyes... no, I need to check her...I can't wait any more...

But if anything happens to you, moreover we don't know, if she is there inside or not...Varun said...

No, I don't know anything, I just can't leave her to die alone...finally he declared moving towards gate... but security guards didn't allow him to move inside... Shlok fought with them and shouted... Astha is inside demn...

No one is inside, we have checked before closing the gate... we ourselves brought all people outside... One of them replied... We can't take risk to spread fire...

And I can't take risk of Astha's life. Shlok tried to go pushing him but three persons came and pulled Shlok out of corridor...

While Varun and Gauri followed him...

Varun placed his hand on Shlok's shoulder but he shrugged his hand, pain was visible in shlok's eyes. Pain to lose Astha... Forever...he was about to break when Varun spoke...Shlok, you want to check inside na?

Shlok looked towards him...and nodded in yes...

Come... Saying Varun dragged him to outside area near a window that opened in library...

They both tried to open, but that was closed from inside... finally they picked a big stone and broke the window...fire busted outside ...but luckily all were near main gate of Library, no one could see them... Shlok, all the best... Varun hugged him... but just check and come back and if need any help, we both are here...and Varun gave him his jacket to cover himself properly and found a wooden rod nearby giving to Shlok for clearing the way

Astha...Astha...he was shouting in the library... almost all the book racks were on fire, library furniture was burning with high flames...

For once, Shlok held his breath, what if Astha is here? A thought made him shiver badly...

No, she is not here. He spoke to himself moving ahead...he was making his way carefully by moving burning objects with the rod...he was walking slowly checking each and every corner of library looking for Astha holding his breath... But could not find her anywhere...

When he checked the complete assessable parts of library, he took a breath of relaxation... Thank God, Astha is not here... And tears flew form his eyes. Tears of happiness... He immediately called Varun and told... Varun, Astha is not here...

Thank god, you checked properly na? Varun asked

Yes, I have checked...

Ok then come back soon, we are here only, fire brigades have also reached...

Ya, I am coming, saying Shlok was about to cut, When suddenly Gauri held the phone from Varun...

Wait Shlok... did you check store room of library?

Store room? Shlok was shocked...

Yes, she had to prepare a report on Last year's businessman of the year award for presentation, she had to check old newspapers and those are in store room of library...

What? I didn't check there...saying Shlok cut the call, his heart was almost stopped on listening name of store room.it was a small room full of old new papers and magazines, if fire had caught that part, there would be just ashes...shivering in fear, he moved towards the store room. He saw a rack fallen on the gate of store room, in which books were burning...

He pushed the burning books from rack with the help of Rod and then pushed the burning rack away. Each and every moment was passing like a century for him... For the first time, he was praying to God... for Astha with hiccups...

As he cleared the gate. He tried to open the door, it was shut from inside...he shouted...Astha...Astha... but no reply...

Finally he picked a half burnt table and broke the gate of store...

For his relaxation, there was no fire inside... but it was full of smoke...may be someone had shut it from inside on seeing fire outside to protect himself or herself... he thought... but if that someone is Astha... Pushing the smoke out with the help of jacket, he ran for Astha in the room...when he found Astha fainted on the floor due to suffocation , He held her and hugged her tightly letting all his pain flow outside..

Astha...Astha...he tried to wake her up... But she didn't move...

He checked her pulse, it was getting slow...

Astha... Astha...he slapped her slowly to make her wake up but no response...

He tried to give her CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation) by pressing her chest... But even then she didn't respond... Her heart beat was getting low.

Finally he took a long breath, open her mouth and placed his lips on her lips for artificial respiration giving her artificial breaths and sucking intoxicants form her lungs...

After six to seven trials, she immediately coughed when he was repeating the process.. And opened her eyes... . He moved away when Astha took a breath herself...

Shlok immediately took Astha into her arms hugging her tightly crying badly... ok? All he said caressing her face. She nodded in yes... and hugged him back... When firemen had blew away fire outside and opened the gate...

Hey someone's inside. He shouted... two men came there, and were about to pick Astha, but Shlok stopped them, picked her in his arms and brought outside...

Varun and Gauri too ran towards them, doctor was called immediately and he advised to admit Astha in hospital ...

Shlok kept her in the ambulance while they three sat beside her...

In the hospital, doctors checked Astha ...

Yes, you all are with her... Doctor came outside...

Yes sir... Gauri spoke looking towards him...is everything fine...

Yes, nothing to worry... she is fine,, infact timely first aid protected her... otherwise it would have been difficult to save her due to so much suffocation. You may see her one by one...

Thanks a lot doctor, saying Gauri ran towards the room, and hugged Astha tight in happiness...

Then Varun looked towards Shlok, but Shlok was still looking on other side yet deciding how to face Astha...

Slowly Varun went inside after Gauri and hugged Astha talking to her for a while...

Shlok, she is asking for you. Varun came outside and spoke to him...

Ya... infact... Shlok spoke...

Shlok you did nothing wrong...Gauri said knowing why he was hesitated...you did to save her life... she is alive just because of you at the moment.

Listening Shlok slowly went inside and found Astha lying on bed with drip on her arm...

Fine? He spoke looking towards ground...

YA... Astha spoke...

Shlok kept quiet for a moment without looking at her. When Astha solely held his hand...

Shlok Thanks... For saving my life...otherwise, I would have dead...

Shlok immediately shouted...shut up Astha... And he hugged her tightly...nothing can happen to you...

Ya nothing can happen to me, till stupid friend like you are with me. Astha smiled... Gauri told me everything, how you came inside...

Listening a smile appeared on shlok's face and moment of awkwardness passed by, he sat there talking to her by late night till Gauri came there for night stay with Astha at hospital...

Wishing good night to Astha Shlok left from there...thinking...Why can't I come out of that moment? Why was I so desperate for Astha and why I felt it was not for the first time, I have touched her lips?
