Falling in love with your Best Friend

Chapter 2 ~ First day at College

Khushi stood beside the window of her room, inhaling the fresh air. The faint voices of the sea waves striking the shore gave a soothing feel. It was a heavenly feeling. Firstly, Goa was a beautiful city and secondly, for a girl who loves beach areas, Goa was like heaven. Khushi's parents had insisted her a thousand times to join a college in Lucknow only, but all went in vain. Though she loved her family a lot, she loved being pampered, but after a really long span of her school life, living with her parents, she wanted to experience freedom. She wanted to live like a free bird. She wanted to be independent. In Goa!

After passing out class 12 with really good marks, Khushi had opened all the doors to the best colleges in India. But, may be Goa was her dream destination, or for any other reason, Khushi chose the college in Goa. She had lived with her family since childhood, so parting with them was not an easy job. Though she cried, but inside her heart, she felt an unknown happiness. "She will be living in Goa!" was the only thought, she had in her excitement-filled mind when she came for counseling with her father. That was the first time she met Payal. She too had come for counseling. They chatted a little and soon became friends. Back in Lucknow, Khushi would chat with Payal online or on phone, for Payal lived in Goa and she in Lucknow. In no time, they became best of friends, adding one more reason for Khushi to love Goa!

"I wish you were here Mom" Arnav said looking at the star-filled sky, while a lone tear trickled down his cheek. He was badly missing his mother, who died when he was fourteen.

His trance was broken when he heard his phone beep. There was a message from Aakash..

"Tu kal kya pehen raha hai? Main bohot confused hoon... Blue pehnu ya black.. Yaar kal college ka first day hai.. Ladkiyaan kya kahengi.. Reply fast..!"(What are you wearing tomorrow? I am very confused.. Should I wear blue or black.. Yaar tomorrow is the first day of college... What will girls say.. Reply fast..!)

A smile spread on Arnav's face after reading the text. Oh god! His friend is crazy!

"I don't need to impress girls, bro. I'll wear whatever I feel like..You know you are totally crazy!" Arnav typed quickly and pressed the 'send' button.

"You suck Arnav" Arnav read the reply from Aakash.

"You too!" Arnav replied. He was no less.

Their conversation continued with both of them ranting each other, making lame jokes and laughing out loud.

They indeed shared a great friendly bond.

..'Only friends can make us laugh when we don't want to even smile'..

"Are you ready?"

Payal texted Khushi at 8 a.m in the morning.

"Yes" Khushi replied back, while fastening her watch around her wrist.

"Ok then come outside your house in 5 minutes"

"Ok"

"I'm too excited yaar" Khushi said while settling herself behind Payal on her scooty.

"Same here, yaar." Payal replied.

In another 15 minutes, they were standing outside their college.

'St. Francis College for Fashion Designing'

"Here we are"

Payal and Khushi said in unison, letting out a deep sigh.

The college campus was huge as well as magnificently beautiful. There was a kind of bustle around every corner. Some girls flaunting their beauty. Some boys drooling over girls. Some girls drooling over boys. Some boys staring them. Wait!

They both looked at each other with a We-should-move look and moved ahead.

Khushi noticed a group of girls around some guys and the next second she found herself being dragged by Payal to know the reason of this rush!

And there he was! Arnav Raizada! Standing amidst girls who were going gaga over him! Khushi's jaw dropped finding him in her college. 'What the hell is he doing here?' was the only sentence she could utter.

She pushed aside Payal along with some other girls and stood in front of him. And what was his reaction? Of course, the same! 'What the hell is she doing here?'

"What are you doing here?"

Khushi asked straightaway.

"First you tell me what are you doing here?"

"I asked the question first!" Khushi said scornfully.

"Ok. So.. I have come here to sell papad"

Arnav said sarcastically.

"Oh.. So anyone here wants to get ill by eating his rotten papad"

Khushi said loudly, while glancing at him angrily.

"Just shut Up! Use your common sense if you have any. I'm in this college because I study here. Or rather say, I'm going to study here."

Arnav replied harshly.

"Damn it! I don't think that I'm going to enjoy studying anymore.. When co-mates like these are there!"

Khushi replied, eyeing him.

"Neither am I. Lets go Aakash. I'm in no mood to start a debate with her.."

saying that Arnav left the place with Aakash, leaving Khushi open-mouthed as always.

"I'm not going to leave him..!!"

Khushi said gritting her teeth , leaving the place along with Payal.

There was still time for their first class to start. Payal and Khushi sat on the opposite chairs of a table in the canteen, sipping coffee.

"How do you know him?" Payal asked her, feeling totally out of the scene.

"Yaar.. He is my housemate.. He lives as paying guest in the same house as I. In the room adjacent to mine." Khushi explained her, feeling irritated by the situation.

"Oh.. You are enemies?"

"I don't know.. He is very rude to me.. I think its his nature only.. Khadoos.. "

"Aww.. You both you so cute while fighting."

Payal teased Khushi.

"Shut up Payal!"

"I think its time for our class."

Payal said, not wanting to spoil her mood further.

They both got up and left the canteen.

As they entered the class, all the students started hooting and passing comments on Khushi.

She heard a comment, " See.. Miss Angry bird is here."

Khushi's eyes welled up. It was her first day at college and she had to face all this, being called out by a made-name. She hastily went up to a seat and settled herself.

"Stop it guys!"

A voice came. Arnav entered the class and immediately saw a crying Khushi. He felt as if someone had stabbed his heart. Though he disliked Khushi, but he never liked girls being insulted because of him. It wasn't his fault. Khushi only started the argument. But, he respected girls.

He heard a comment passed on him,"Look Mr. Angry bird is protecting her.." and a batch of boys who were sitting in a corner, passing comments on Arnav and Khushi, had a great laugh.

Arnav found it to be a bad idea to have a fight with them, so he just ignored.

'I'll apologize' he thought and went up to the seat where Aakash was sitting, just before Khushi's seat.

The teacher entered. The whole class was spent with the teacher introducing the subject and getting the students familiar to her.

As soon as the class ended, Arnav scribbled something on a piece of paper, rolled it and threw it backwards towards Khushi. Khushi, at first, kept staring at the paper, but after a minute, took the paper and read it.

"I'm SORRY. Don't cry. Those boys are Mad. ^_^"

Khushi smiled reading the note. 'He isn't that Khadoos.." she thought. She turned the paper and wrote something at the back of the same paper, where Arnav had written.

"You don't need to say Sorry.. I should say, 'I'm sorry.' And thanks for saying sorry."

Khushi wrote, crumbled it and threw it towards Arnav.

Reading it, Arnav made a peculiar face and turned back to face her.

"You are so confusing Khushi! First you say that I don't need to say sorry. And then you yourself thank me for saying it? Are you mad?"

"Excuse me! I'm not mad. I just said that it wasn't your fault so you don't need to say sorry."

Khushi said, apologetically.

"So it was your fault?"

Arnav said, smirking.

"Uhh.. I don't know. Fir bhi.. I am very humble. I would myself say I'm sorry."

"Oh so you are humble?"

"Any doubt?"

"No doubt. Okay lets stop fighting. I'm sorry too."

While these two were busy in their 'sorry' business, there were two who were just staring each other dreamily - Aakash and Payal.

As soon as Khushi saw Payal staring at Arnav's friend, she shook her vigorously, and the next second they got up to leave the room.
