PART 31

Jakhotia Mansion:

"Bhaiyya! Bhabhi!!" screamed Munni and Babli, their voices laced with excitement. That broke the magical spell that Raj and Divya were under and they looked at the siblings with a knowing smile grazing their lips.

"So, how was last night? mm?" They questioned, their eyes twinkling with mischief. This made Divya and Raj uncomfortable; Divya was fidgeting with her pallu while Raj was looking her way. This only increased his sisters' curiosity and they tried to peek into the bedroom.

Raj blocked their way and said with mock anger, "Shame on you girls! Can't you give us some amount of privacy? We are newly married, or did that fact escape your mind?"

"Arrey Bhaiyya! Looks like you have lost it, not us. All this teasing about last night is because you are newly married! After a few days, the excitement anyway will dampen down and then we will stop bothering you. What say?" they spoke, poking fun at him.

"Good god! You both are impossible!" Raj uttered, resignedly.

"So Bhabhi, how was the decoration last night?" They enquired.

"It was beautiful." Said Divya automatically; stealing a glance at her husband simultaneously.

"Bhaiyya, the least you can do is say Thank you to us for decorating your room." They said in unison.

Raj glanced at his smiling wife and that was enough for him and he uttered, "Thank you" to his sisters. Anything for that smile, he thought.

"Bhabhi, what did our beloved brother gift you last night? Can you tell us? Pretty please?" They asked their sister in law.

Divya was yet to form an answer, before which they peeped into the bedroom, scrutinizing the area for gift wrappers. When they found the script with the satin sash around it, they just shamelessly made their way into the room with Raj and Divya following them clueless. Babli grabbed it which made Raj walk towards her to seize it from her, saying, "Babli, please give it to me."

"Aha! No way, Bhaiyya! First tell us what is so important in these papers that you are so desperate to take it from us? Are these love letters that you wrote to Bhabhi when you were in college? Mmm?" Babli asked, with Munni echoing her words.

Raj looked helplessly at Divya. Divya was observing the entire exchange with humor and when Raj looked at her pleadingly, she could not help but smile genuinely, despite their situation being anything but ideal. She nodded her head, passing the message that she would handle the situation.

"Munni, Babli. Girls, please give it to me. It is a gift which your Bhaiyya gave last night, which I am yet to open. So please just pass it to me." She asked pleasingly.

The sisters glanced at each other and then observed the newlyweds standing in front of the cot. They marched towards them and gave the script to Divya who was standing in front of Raj.

"What were you so busy with that you did not have time to open the gift, Bhabhi?" Munni asked teasingly.

Divya was blushing to the roots now and before she could even look at them, Babli asked, "This?" and nudged her towards her brother. Divya lost her balance, falling backwards on Raj and both of them ended up falling on the bed together. The sisters dashed out of the room there fearing their brother's anger.

But Raj was pre occupied with his wife on the cot to even bother about them. He was admiring his wife, whose back was plastered to his chest. She made a move to get up but the hook of her blouse latched on to his kurta. Raj steadied her saying, "One minute, Divya. Let me get the hook out."

Divya was very much aware of her husband who was right now trying his best to remove the hook off his kurtha, his warm breath teasing the delicate skin at her neck. Her breath hitched a little and she hoped that her husband did not pay attention to it.

She wondered what was wrong with her and why she was this nervous around Raj. She did not want to give Raj the impression that she cared, but was behaving like a wife who wanted to save her husband from the incessant teasing of his sisters. She was reminded of his concern for her the night before when he urged her to have the medicine; and was happy when she saw a glimpse of her Raj. His gesture of gifting her something valuable i.e. in terms of memories, not money; mattered a lot to her and brought back the old feelings.

And just like that the recent feelings of betrayal of her love and trust, also flooded back into her mind. She did not want to feel this way; she did not want to trust him so soon. What if he broke her heart and her faith without any regard again? She wondered. This final thought made her stiffen her body and lash out at him.

And Raj immediately sensed the change in her demeanor. He untangled the hook the same time when Divya chose to speak. "Your sisters have left, Raj. So, enough with the pretense now! What did you think? That I was genuinely happy? How can I be when you have ripped it away from me?" So saying, she moved away from her husband.

Her words were like a bucket of ice water dumped on his head and he thrashed down to this reality; a reality which he should have anticipated, instead of building castles in the air.

He fumbled around for words and finally managed to say, "But your smile spoke something else, Divya." And the moment those words escaped his mouth her felt like an utter fool.

Divya stood there thinking, my smile was genuine, Raj and you are correct in your assumption. But her wounded heart did not want Raj to hear those words of affirmation. So she chose to act instead, saying, "I am not responsible for your assumptions, Raj. If you did believe it, then it means that I have turned into a darn good actress. So your sisters must have bought the act as well, don't you think?" She asked and didn't wait for his reply, before charging away from there and barging into the washroom to cry her heart out.

Raj just sat there dumbfounded thinking that his day, which started out like a dream, turned into a nightmare in just a few minutes.

Same here, dear! I miss ViSaBhi and PV2 a lot...even though the show was highly unpredictable and sometimes unbelievably dumb...it was something I would look forward to at the expense of my sleep, to escape reality. No other show or couple have captured my eye until now...the way PV2 and ViSa did.

Hope SriJaz come together to weave their magic on some other show.

PART 32

Vikrant's Residence

Sarita took refuge in the kitchen in the pretense of getting the milk and breakfast ready for Abhiman. The tears that poured out of her eyes spoke volumes of the heartache she was enduring. How did things go wrong so soon? She wondered. She was so happy until yesterday in spite of her husband's terrible mood swings; he went from being joyous the day before to angry yesterday. And the worst part was today he appeared to have regretted what he shared with her the night before. The thought brought fresh tears to her eyes; and the necessity to control her emotions for her son's sake made her dig her nails into her palm and grit her teeth in an attempt to stop the flow of tears.

She took a deep breath, wiped her face and went about her daily routine; making aaloo paranthas and some tomato chutney to go with it. Abhi entered the kitchen and he drank his milk amidst lot of chit chatting. She wiped his mouth clean and sent him for his bath. She made some coffee and sent it to her husband whom she saw was heading towards his study. Then when things were settled in the kitchen, she went to Abhi's room to get him ready for school.

Vikrant on the other hand stood immobile after hearing Sarita's onslaught of words. It tore him to see her hurt; now he was thoroughly convinced that she was hurt emotionally because of what transpired between them the night before. And that was probably because she preserved herself for Raj and wanted to share the special moment only with him. But instead she got sucked into a vulnerable moment and now she regrets it. That was probably the reason she was lashing out at him; to hide her heartache. And how many times have you come up with this line of reasoning? His mind asked him.

He finally moved away from the centre of the room towards the restroom, all the while convincing himself not to think of anything as he had to drag this day through at office. He decided to postpone the deep thinking to evening when he was back home. So he started doing things like an automaton, leaving his emotional baggage at the door temporarily.

He suddenly recollected that he left his ipad and phone in the study, hence proceeding towards it. He normally liked to be prepared before he went to office, so he started to surf through his emails and replied to them. And when he was in the process of making a few phone calls, there was a knock at the door. He turned towards it anxiously, waiting for Sarita to emerge from the other side and was disappointed that it was Ramu Kaka who brought him his coffee.

A sigh escaped his lips when he thought there goes my pledge of keeping my emotions at bay for the day! What is wrong with me? Why can't I stop thinking about her? He asked himself. It is because you love her like crazy! Came the immediate reply from his inner self. He shook his head sideways praying to god to give him clarity and sanity and also for some inner strength to set things right with his wife. In short all he was praying was for some sort of miracle, before he made his way towards the dining room.

When she got back into the dining room with Abhi, she noticed Vikrantji, Vandana and Kajri seated at the table, waiting for their breakfast. She asked Abhi to sit and hurried into the kitchen to take Ramu Kaka's help in laying the table. She sent him out with others' breakfast and proceeded to prepare her husband's breakfast.

Vandana asked Kaka to fetch her newspaper, making him go to the living room. Just about the same time Sarita noticed the dry fruits had not been replenished. She called out to him and when there was no response, she scurried around searching for it in the regular places. She finally found it lying in the overhead closet and brought the step stool to reach for it. She stood on her toes and just about the time her hand wrapped around the box, her ankle twisted and her waist rammed against the sharp edge of the counter top at the same place where she was injured already; she cried out and tried to grab the counter to break her fall but to no avail. She collapsed on the floor wailing in pain, with the contents of the box scattering all around her.

Vikrant heard Sarita's cry and pushed his chair back to rush into the kitchen. He noticed Sarita on the floor, trying to reach for her throbbing ankle; while a small amount of blood oozed from her waist. He ran towards her and picked her up at once, concern and worry etched all over his face. He instructed Kajri to call the doctor and proceeded to make his way towards their bedroom briskly, with her in his arms and Abhi tagging along. He made sure that he did not wrap his arm around her injured area.

Sarita shut her eyes tight and grasped his sleeve when pain shot up from her ankle and waist. She clenched her fingers tightly around his arm, leaving marks on his skin. But Vikrant did not seem to be affected by it at all, as his attention was solely on his wife's face that was flushed with unbearable pain. He placed her on the bed gently, as soon as they reached their room and went towards the closet in search of the first aid kit.

Abhiman sat on the other side of the bed, holding his mother's hand and squeezing it gently. Sarita smiled in spite of the soreness that was setting in around the injured parts of her body. She noticed Vikrant scrambling around looking for something; and she noticed that the something was the first aid kit. She heard him instruct Abhi to leave the room as he had to dress his mother's wound. Abhi nodded and left the room immediately, closing the door behind him.

Vikrant carefully lifted the portion of her sari covering her waist and had to look away as he could not take the sight of the deep gash on her tender skin. He took some cotton in his hand and placed it on the wound, to stop the blood from oozing out. And Sarita had to bite on her lower lip to stop herself from crying out. Vikrant's other hand went to her forehead, gently caressing it and the pain started to ebb away. She opened her eyes to meet her husband's steady and re assuring gaze.

Sarita smiled hesitantly and said, "Thank you, Mr. Suryavanshi!"

Vikrant could not believe his ears. He smiled back at her and wondered if god was granting him the miracle he prayed for a little earlier. What Vikrant did not realize was that the miracle that he hoped for would be granted to him at the end of the day, in the form of the note Sarita had left for him before her meeting Raj.
