Chapter-5
Manvi Sharma
I don't know what to do, so I stay seated next to Virat. I'm going to get harassed and punished by Mrs Malhotra and Priya no matter what. They told me to stay in the background, don't approach anyone and above all keep my mouth shut. I didn't mean to start talking to him, I just didn't want to be rude and he's not someone who let's you ignore him.
"Maybe I should go with them." I state, standing up. It's not worth what they could do to me. "Priya you can-"
"Sit down." Virat demands and puts his hand on my arm. I look up to Mrs Malhotra, who has her teeth clenched together and Priya who I know is thinking of what to destroy of mine first. This man scares even them. I guess a snake recognizes a snake.
"Manvi, I swear I didn't know Kriya had the table already booked up when I invited you." Mr Malhotra apologizes, walking up to us. He was clearly upset about making me sit without them.
"It's not your fault, Mrs Malhotra. It's fine." I say, knowing my lovely step mother did it on purpose, but not really caring.
"I've asked her to dine with me." Virat states and I can see the stunned look on my father's face. He didn't realize who I was sitting with until Virat spoke. He's intimated by him too. What is it about this guy that makes everyone stand at attention?
"Oh, thank you Virat that's very generous of you." Mrs malhotra says, happily. I swear this man is the worst judge of character, just look at his wife and daughter. I have known Virat vadhera maybe an hour and I can tell he wants me. Not in a friendly way, but in an I want to lick every part of your body repeatedly, way.
He doesn't respond and Mrs Malhotra claps her hand of his arm. "I feel terrible about this, I know how badly you wanted to spend time with Manvi tonight."
"I'll think of another way to spend time with her. Don't feel bad it was an honest mistake." He replies, patting her arm. I try not to roll my eyes.
I hear Virat grunt beside me and without thinking I punch his leg lightly. I give him my best shut up glare. I see his smirk form and I roll my eyes. He's going to get me in so much trouble with Kriya and Priya. If they think for a moment that I told him what they do or say to me, they'll burn all my mother's things right before my eyes. I've already had to witness them burn two pictures of her that I held dear to me. All for allegedly flirting with Priya's then boyfriend Arjun kapoor. He ended things with her and she blamed me. Even though the only time I ever spoke to him was to say, hi and bye and that was just because I couldn't be that impolite.
"They've started to serve dinner. I'll take care of Manvi, don't worry." Virat says, smirking at me. Can he be any more obvious?
I ignore him and give Mrs Malhotra by best reassuring smile. "I'll see you after dinner. You still owe me a dance." I warn him jokingly.
"You bet kiddo." He replies, smiling and walking away with his wife and Priya.
"You punched me." He accuses, when they are out of ear shot.
"You were going to get me into trouble. Do you always have to say what your thinking?" I ask, annoyed.
"Actually, I rarely say what I think. What do you mean? Trouble with Mrs malhotra and Priya?" He questions, suspiciously.
"It's nothing." I respond.
"Answer me." He orders.
I shake my head. "Leave it alone, please."
"I'll find out." He states.
I shrug, "Not from me." A small salad arranged in a perfect circle is set in front of me. I swear, everything that rich people do has to be done with a precision that I don't understand. It's a salad for God sakes, it's not surgery.
"They have something on you." He concludes, not giving up. "Whatever it is it must be big." I choose to not answer him as I see the another enemy walk towards me, looking perfect as always. Kajal, Priya's best friend and keeper of all my mother's memories. Mrs Malhotra didn't trust that I wouldn't look for my mother's things and run off with them. Not that she's wrong, that's exactly what I would have done. The biggest mistake I've ever made was moving to New York, a decision I've regretted for the last two months. They didn't want me here and they're teaching me a lesson.
"Manvi, how are you? I didn't even know you were here until I talked to Priya a couple of minutes ago."
"Fine." I answer, my throat feeling tight.
"She just asked me to remind you that I have a few of your things she left at my house. Personally, I think such old things need to be burned, but she insisted you wanted them." She says, faking sweetness.
I suck in a shaky breath. "Please, don't burn them." I swear this wasn't my fault." I whisper to her, pleading with her to understand.
