Well, I am not good with words...and i am not here to defend anybody...it shouldn't be like that either. This is story and it should be left to everybody to like and dislike what they want, and if there is anybody who should be defending or say saying anything about characters than it is WRITERJI.
so not my place and i apologies in advance for this. i am only putting forward my feelings in this discussion.
i think this is how Arnav may react if he was a little less of ASR...to say

and than i would say that we all manipulate situations and people around us all the time.
we all whine and try and manipulate our parents for things we want.
Parents manipulate their kids in to taking so many decisions. we do not let a kid take a decision of his life when he is clearly unaware of the consequences and the ways of world, and i do not see anything wrong in that. It is actually parents job to look out for them. and when you can't say to child do not do this. coz, it can go in to long and fruitless discussion as the child will never understand why and whats of the matter. so you manipulate them in not letting them eat candy, to going to school to everything big and small thing.
here khushi in a way with her innocence is an older child.
sometimes,if you think of things not done the way they were done...it will make more sense...
what if she will say "no"..as it will be left to summer and he will give her free reign. will they both be happy??
Even in their unconscious way they both needs and wants each other, its not clear to them. now we can call it love or not is different thing.
we are not going to define love and all so we will leave at that.
so, now if manipulation can make you happy, and you are not even forced to do it...you were lulled in to the accepting the situation. whom can you blame? just for the right of saying yes or no is more important or actually taking care of the whole situation is more important?
so, there it is.
