My dear Kunchu,
First of all, the montage is very nice. Not as hauntingly lovely as some of the others you have done, but then this is for a specfic purpose, and it serves that purpose admirably. I was pleased to see that you have chosen Alok Nath's face for Baba; it is a perfect fit.
Coming to the chapter, I am glad that you have not made Arjun's emotional, as distinct from physical, recovery process too easy. It would not have been realistic if you had done that, it would have been too pat, like a fairy story, where a wand in waved and all is right again.
First, I liked the way in which Shree held out the longest of the three before caving in and taking Arjun back, so to speak. For him to do otherwise would not have been convinicing, for there was bound to be a lot of resentment in his mind vis a vis Arjun, for his sorrow and sense of loss would have been directly proportional to the extent of his hero worship of his khaddoos boss, which seems to have been very high.
It was also very natural that the very thing that brings Shree round, Arjun's mentioning that he had not wanted to come back into their lives
iss tharah, also triggers a fit of depression in Arjun, both because of his guilt for his having hurt them so much by his disappearance, and because of his present helpless state. The temporary reprieve after Aryan case is broached and discussed, followed by further morale boosting with a dose of tender, loving care from Aisha, is unfortunately not enough to cope with the tidal wave of regret and guilt, about what he had condemned Aisha to in those two long years, that cascades over him as he looks at the photos of her and her students dancing.
This guilt is much deeper that what he feels about Shree and the others, for while they had grieved for the loss of a mentor and boss - and seeing this must in a way have been reassuring and heartwarming for Arjun - with Aisha, to whom he owed so much more for all that she had been for him, he could see that he had nearly destroyed her.
You have brought out all these conflicting emotions, both in Arjun and, by extension, in Aisha as well, very sensitively and with perfect empathy.
But this too shall pass, and Aisha, for all her worry of the moment, knows this. The real bedrock on which Arjun will base his recovery, physical but also emotional, will be not just the medicines or the physiotherapy. It will be Aisha - her presence, her courage, her love for him and her determination to give him back his old self. And that cannot fail.
Shyamala Aunty
