Chapter 35

Rosy stood in a corner with her hands clasped tightly together. She didn't even look up at the sight when Karan, Shree and Rathore helped Arjun into bed. Though the curiosity to know if he was better than before was practically boring a hole through her stomach, she was afraid. The sight before her brought back many memories, some she cherished and others she would rather forget.
*Flashback - 2 years ago*
Standing in the room, watching his chest rise and fall to the beep of the EKG machine had been excruciatingly maddening. She was afraid to even blink her eyes, lest he would stop breathing.
She sat there all night, by his side watching over him and pleading for forgiveness from Roshni for having hidden her existence from them.
The hurt in Mishti's eyes haunted her till date, but there was little she could have done to clarify things to her friend and the wife of the man she was in love with.
She took charge over things at the hospital and sent Roshni away to rest for a little while. She also needed some time to process the shock and gather her thoughts.
It was only after she was alone in the room did she muster the courage to look at Arjun. She had been fighting the urge to fall to her knees and cry ever since she had heard the dreadful news.
It had taken all of Arohi's courage to reveal herself to the world after having vowed to hide her existence from her loved ones. She hadn't been able to stay away knowing he was battered and bruised badly.
Once at the hospital, extracting a promise from the dutiful wife had been hard on both of them, but she was grateful to Roshni for giving in.
Ro walked over to his bedside and very tenderly smoothed the soft hair falling over his forehead.
His head was bandaged and she remembered the doctors mentioning something about an internal bleeding. He had lost a lot of blood as well, the pressure was dropping rapidly and treatment wasn't proving to be effective either.
She knew it in her heart that he would fight and live but her head kept saying differently.
She wanted to shake him up and lash at him for having gone off on his own without waiting for the backup forces. But for now, being angry with him was the last thing on her mind.
Making place for herself on the hospital bed, she sat close to his head and held his hand in hers. A tear drop fell over her cheek and she closed her eyes, finally giving in.
It had been three long years since she had seen him. And yet, despite the time and distance that had separated her from him, she had always sensed his presence around her.
Each time she had laughed heartily, on most nights when she cried herself to sleep and every single time she looked at her reflection in the mirror, she had felt his piercing eyes and soothing warmth around her.
She squeezed his hand in hers softly. Nothing mattered to her that moment; their egos, his anger, her betrayal. Everything seemed so insignificant in front of the sight before her.
She didn't know what she would do if she lost him. The only thing she knew was that if he left her, she wouldn't live. He was too precious to her to lose him.
Tere liye hi jiya main
Khud ko jo yun de diya hai..
She leaned down and pecked his forehead while her fingers lingered over his, "You're listening to me, right? You're going to get better okay. Because you can't leave me, Arjun. Not like this.
We still have so many things to do. I have to apologise to you for hurting you. You have to forgive me for me to be able to move on in life without you.
I need you to be beside me when I come face to face with the one who snatched away our family. I need you to be there for me to die without regret.
I'm going to be so upset with you if you don't make it, Mr. A."
Resting her forehead against his, she closed her eyes and placed her hand on his cheek.
Teri wafa ne mujhko sambhala
Saare ghamon ko dil se nikala..Tere saath mera hai naseeb juda
Tujhe paake adhoora naa raha
With a lot of strange things happening around her, she wasn't sure of whom to trust anymore. But for one, she knew she couldn't let anything harm the blissfully married couple.
None would know of her being related to them; she had to stay away from them, for their well-being. She had lost her father and Ayesha's parents just a few months ago and Arohi wasn't willing to let her father's sacrifice and her hardwork go in vain.
Her Mr. A was the only living man to know of Sikandar's existence and she would do whatever it took her to keep him safe. Though ignorant about the fact himself, Arjun was the only link to her family's brutal end.
She had to keep the brave cop, her father's son and his favorite protg safe, till the time he was back on his feet to defend himself and his wife.
She had stayed put at the hospital all night and had walked away with a heavy heart after being assured by the doctors, not wanting to face him while he was conscious.
Arranging for a few undercover cops to guard the hospital and the couple's home, Arohi had stepped out of their lives and into the dark shadows once again.
But this time with a heavier heart praying to the Almighty to watch over and keep her best friend and the man she loved more than her life safe.

Arjun couldn't feel a thing. The moment he was hit on the head was the last he had conjured a logical thought.
He had been following a lead single-handedly for over two months. As distraught as he was over his family's cruel murders, he knew they would all want him to carry on with his work and do whatever it took him to rid the world of malice.
He fought the darkness threatening to blind him; for, he still had regretted not being able to protect his family. And now he wasn't going to be able to do it ever.
His loved ones faces flashed before his droopy eyelids one by one; her's was the last one to linger in his memory before he collapsed.
A shooting pain surged through his head and he slowly tried to open his eyes. The light was too harsh to bear and the pain was killing him. He fell back against the pillow drained both physically and mentally. It felt as though the darkness was more soothing than the light that would take him back into the world where she didn't exist.
Tera mera rishta hai kaisa
Ik pal door gawara nahi
Tere liye har roz hai jeete
Tujh ko diya mera waqt sabhi
Koi lamha mera na ho tere bina
Har saans pe naam tera..
His life, everyone's expectations, his duty, none of it mattered. He didn't want to live without her.
He wondered if this was how she felt while she was dying. He hoped, it had been less painful.
And then he heard her.
Right then he didn't know if she was for real or a figment of his imagination, but the voice laced with concern was undeniably hers.
She was pleading with him to fight for life. But did he want to?
A light weight on his chest and a pair of lips pressed against his forehead surprisingly strengthened his urge to live.
Never wanting to lose the warmth, the touch offered, he fought the sleep that threatened to consume him.
Kyunki tum hi ho
Ab tum hi ho
Zindagi ab tum hi ho..
Chain bhi.. mera dard bhi
Meri aashiqui ab tum hi ho..
But the medication and heavy blood loss were taking a toll on him and he found himself slipping into darkness.
However, this time he didn't fight it. He knew she wouldn't let him fall; she would be right beside him when he opened his eyes.
Alas.. He had been disappointed..
