Khushi felt the world slipping beneath her feet as she glanced straight into the midnight black eyes awaiting her descent. Arnav Singh Raizada had not come after all. Prince charming had not come to sweep her away. Instead, she found herself quickly preparing to meet the devil head on. Shyam Manohar Jha looked at her with a nasty smirk, his eyes gleaming with spite and cruelty, laughing with contempt as her father winked cheekily and slapped him hard on the back.
"Khushi. You're beautiful, but I didn't know you had it in you to rope in such a charming boyfriend"
Khushi attempted to transmit laser beams through her eyes at her insane father. There was no way in hell she would attend prom with this monster. She would rather die than do such a thing. The warning signals went to waste as her father shot her a thumbs up at her apparent selection.
"I disagree with you Mr. Gupta. Your daughter is everything a man would want... and more", he hissed, licking his lips disgustingly, scanning Khushi from head to toe.
Khushi looked past Shyam, ignoring his uncomfortable comment, and directly at her smiling father. "Dad. I don't think I'm feeling up to this. I think I'm going to call it a night."
Khushi felt her heart drop as the ends of her father's mouth fell at her comment, the growing anger in his eyes visible. "Khushi. Absolutely not. This boy has been waiting all night for you. I refuse to take no as an answer. If you feel still feel down in an hour or so, I'll pick you up." And with that, Khushi was lightly pushed out of the door alongside Shyam, her father unable to hear a word against the charming man who had come to get her.
Khushi's mother had died when she was just a child, but even a father knew how important prom night was for a young woman. She was just nervous, he convinced himself... and once the nerves were controlled, she'd have the night of her life with a wonderful man who seemed to deserve her. He latched the door behind his daughter and returned to his television set.
**************
Khushi yanked her hand out of Shyam's stubborn grip, the tears of rejection she was hiding from her father now flowing freely. She mustered the strength to scream "GET OFF ME YOU ASSHOLE", only to trip over her dress and land into the grass.
Shyam clicked his tongue menacingly at her declaration, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand. The look in his eyes was dangerous and objectifying, and suddenly Khushi became frighteningly aware of the silence that surrounded them. Shyam had dragged her a great distance from her home and she found herself alone with this monster in their abandoned neighborhood park
"Khushi. We are living in the 21st century. No girl with a body as sinfully feminine and ethereal as yours, should be wearing a dress tailored for nuns." He inched towards her stealthily, and Khushi automatically tried to move farther away in the grass, unable to retain balance on her unsteady legs. Her attempts were futile though, because she soon felt her back hitting against the cold wood of a picnic bench. She was trapped. She swung her head around frantically, only to come face to face with Shyam, once again wiping his dirty smirk with the back of his hand, stifling a chuckle.
With a gasp, she felt herself being pulled up against and seated upon the picnic bench. His hands clawed, pulled at and ruined her once beautiful net sleeves, detaching them from the dress whose modesty she had fallen in love with. Struggling to breathe, Khushi felt her voice getting caught in her throat as she desperately tried calling for help. He muffled her screams by pinching her cheeks animalistically with his burning fingers, forcing her legs open with his knee, trying to create more personal standing space for himself. She felt his lips crash down on hers mercilessly, demanding her to respond, and completely and utterly hopeless, Khushi shut her eyes as her fresh tears burned her reddening face. She shivered as his tongue swiped across her closed mouth and the punches she aimed at his chest proved futile. She opened her eyes momentarily to claw her nails into this monster's neck, only to get a glance of tears glistening in the brown eyes of a man walking away into the distance... his tux absorbed into the darkness of the midnight.
