Heer
It was an evening of spring time. But the weather was not calm and soothing as a weather of a spring evening should be. The sky was grayish and it was getting darker with each passing moment. The monstrous clouds had even made the moon a prisoner of them. Not a single soul of Earth could see the moon. The cold breeze ruffled her hair and sent a chill down her spine. Suddenly she figured out the sky is symbolizing nothing but present situation of her life. Only darkness, No hope! No life! The emptiness that had engulfed her now dissolved into nothingness. Soon after she found a tear is rolling down on her cheek. She felt ticklish but denied the plea to wipe it. Let it flow. At least it proved that she still has tears left. All of a sudden she realized a warm hand on her cheek.
"Tear doesn't look good on such a beautiful face." He whispered wiping it away. "This face should be always adored with a smile." He said brushing his lips on her forehead.
"Reyansh!" She murmured in an inaudible tone. The scent of his body gave her the sense of insanity. The way his lips were feathering her cheeks her bare nape made her shiver. "Take me from here." She said waiting for the moment when his firm lips will clash on her little petal lips. She desperately wanted to taste his tongue within her mouth. Her eyelids slid down, lips parted away to welcome his. But the moment never arrived. She opened her eyes as a few moments passed by in waiting just to witness the unkind mortal world. It was just a mere illusion.
She is Taani, only daughter of Rajveer Shekhawat. One of the elites of the country. In her country girls are not permitted to set foot out of the house. They're always cocooned in "Zenana". Falling in love is considered as sin. But she is the one who has committed this sacred sin. She fell in love with a businessman who came to her life a few months ago. Reyansh. Memory of the single day made her laugh and cry at the same moment. Her legs buckled and she fell on her knees. She felt hand of her mother of the shoulder.
"Mother!" She murmured before burying her face into her mother's shoulder to hide the tears from her. But nonetheless her mother is the only one who feels her pain. She knew how desperately her mother wants to help her but she is not able to do anything.
"Our duty is only to love the husband dear." Her mother said ruffling through her hair in a consoling voice. "we have no permission to love."
But she continued with her silent cry. Is it possible to remove his pain? His love? She doubt even crucifixion cannot give her liberty from this pain.
"they are waiting for you downstairs." Her mother said helping her to stand on her feet. "May god blesses you dear." She stated wiping her tears.
The palace was decorated with so many lights. It felt like stars from the sky came down to make the palace more beautiful. Cladding in a red lahenga she came downstairs.
"There she is." Her father shouted cheerfully. He was standing with her would be husband. A man twice of her age. She lifted her head to meet his eyes only to find a pair of lusty eyes looking back at her. She lowered her eyes immediately. She is destined to love this man? No he can't be a man. No man can look at a girl so disrespectfully. She would rather embrace death than being spouse of this brute.
"Taani my dear." Her mother said with affection. "Within a few days you will leave this house, leave us behind to start a new life. For the last time would you sing something for us?" She requested.
"Yes my dear. Please sing something." Her father said. "I don't know if I will be lucky enough to hear you singing again in this life."
Comparing to the pain of her separation with him this pain seems little.
"I would like to hear you singing for the first time." The man hissed.
The snake like voice made fear crawled in her heart. She forced a smile not looking at the man. Slowly she made her way to the musical instrument. Sliding her eyelids close she starts a song.
Heer Heer na akho odiyo, Main te Sahibaan hoye,
Ghodi leke aaye le jaaye, Ghodi leke aaye le jaaye,
Le jaaye Mirza koi, Le jaaye Mirza koi,
In her childhood her grandmother used to tell her stories of Heer-Ranjha, Mirza-Sahiban, Sohni-Mahiwaal and many more. Heer-Ranjha used to be her favorite. She always felt miserable for Heer when she desperately wanted to be Sahibaan so that her beloved Ranjha can take away from here just like Mirza took Sahiban.
Ohde je hi main te oh mere warga,
hansda ae sajra sawere varga,
ankha bandh kar la te thande hanere varga
She has always felt pathos for Heer. But today she is feeling the emotions of Heer. She is praying to god that her beloved Reyansh will take her away. She remembered the first day when she saw her behind the jharokha. The moment she saw him she felt a feelings completely new to her. She fell in love.
She never dared to disobey the rules of not setting foot outside. But love is a strange thing. It makes you brave. She broke out of her house in disguise to meet him at the bank of river. She went to him every day. It felt like an invisible force pulling her towards him. Despite of the danger of getting caught she felt a strange kind of joy. His smile used to give her hope of a new life.
ohde je hi main te o Mirza mere varga
Naal naal tur na te vith rakhna
hadd rakh lena wich dil rakhna,
chhanve chhanve paawe assi teri parchhawe tur na
But destiny played the malicious game. Her father caught her with him. She had not seen Reyansh after the cursed day. She only knew her father ordered the guards to kill him.
She was poisoned in her own house. Her father arranged her marriage to one of his elite friends. Thus all the wishes of new life shattered into pieces.
Ho Heer Heer na akho adiyo
Main te Sahiba hoi
Ghodi leke aave le jaaye haaye
Le jaaye Mirza koi
Le jaaye Mirza koi
Le jaaye Mirza koi...
The love has gave her all the happiness in the world as well as pain.
A few days left to her wedding. And here she is praying silently to her god to give the fortune of Sahibaan to her.
Heer Heer na akho adiyo
Main te Sahiba hoi
Ghodi leke aave le jaaye
Ghodi leke aaye le jaaye
Oh ho...
The moment she finished her song she heard a bone chilling cry. A maid ran to them to inform there is a fire outside of the palace. A chaos immediately emerged in the hall. People started to run here and there not knowing what to do.
"Taani! Get up run." She couldn't see her mother in the pandemonium heard her mother shouting from somewhere.
"Taani!" She heard her voice. Is it real? Or another trick of her destroyed mind and soul. "Taani, come with me." Holding her hand tightly he ran towards the horse waiting for him. As soon as they get up on its back it ran at its full speed.
When the people realized there was no fire but mere smoke they found the bride gone.
**************
The horse was running towards the old temple of lord Krishna.
"Reyansh!" She uttered. "Is it you or just another trick of my mind?"
"Did you really think Taani I would let you marry to any one apart from me?"
"I thought they have killed you."
"Love gives you strange power Taani. It's not easy to kill someone when he's in love with someone unconditionally."
"you don't know how big of a risk you took by taking me with you. They won't leave us alone. They will find us and kill us."
"Our love is so strong Taani that I can give my life for it, and I won't back away to take lives either."
The horse stopped in front of the Krishna temple. They made their way inside. It used to be the biggest temple of the country once but now it's abandoned. Only the old statue of Lord Krishna was there.
"Tonight in presence of Lord Krishna I reyansh accepting you as my wife Taani." He said as he cut tips of his finger and brushed the blood on her forehead.
The next moment she found herself lost in his embrace. His lips feathered on her lips. But the moment does not stay for a long time. They heard a group of people coming towards them.
"Reyansh it's them. They will kill us." She panicked.
"Taani sshh!" He put a finger on her petal lips. "Look at the river."
She averted her gaze at the other door of the temple which opened towards the river. She saw a boat standing there, waiting for them.
As Rey whistled the horse came in front of the other door. They set the horse on run towards the river. The very moment they landed on it the boat was free on the river. They heard the voice extremely close to them. But when the men spotted them in the boat, it was far away from their reach. The sound gets lower with every passing moment as the boat was going far in the river. Sitting in each other embrace they witness the land fading into darkness. At last the peak of the temple went out of their views. Looking at the sky they saw the moon flooding the earth with its light.
