Previous - Chapter 9

Khushi felt out of place amongst everyone. Despite her family being there, she just felt strange. She looked on at everyone, Lavanya, Sakshi, Arnav, everyone was really happy.

Arnav turned around to see Khushi missing from next to him. He scanned the hall and saw her standing by the window, looking outside. He took a deep breath and walked towards her.

She turned to him when she felt his presence. She looked away as quickly as she had looked at him. Arnav hesitantly spoke, "Khushi"

"Ji." (Yes)

"What are you thinking about?"

"I wanna go home."

"This is your home."

"No, this was never my home."

"Khushi, I"

"I want my baby!"

That statement threw him off, "What?!"

"I want her' we don't belong here."

Arnav stared at her as she continued.

"That day you threw me out, you threw us both out, out of this house and out of your life."

Khushi said above a whisper, "I just want my baby."

Arnav could not bear the thought of losing Sakshi, in his protectiveness for his daughter, Arnav became ASR. "You really think you can take her away from me?"

Khushi looked at him, "We're divorce' divorced, I' I'm her mother, I can ask for custody."

Arnav closed his eyes when he heard her say the word divorce. He opened his eyes and stared angrily at her, "You just came out of coma, and you don't have a job, barely an income at your house. How will you manage a child?"

Khushi's lips trembled as Arnav words hit her, "I don't' I just, I just want to be with my baby."

Arnav started to melt seeing tears brimming up in Khushi's eyes.

Just then she held her head, as she was feeling dizzy all of a sudden. Arnav held her shoulders to steady her. Arnav yelled, "VIHAAN!!"

Everyone's attention turned to Arnav and Khushi. They all rushed over to them.

Vihaan ordered Arnav to take Khushi upstairs. Arnav put her on the bed and they all went outside. Vihaan came outside after examining her, Arnav rushed to his side, "Khushi? How is she?"

Vihaan answered, "She's fine, just a bit weak, I shouldn't have brought her here today, and she's still very weak and needs proper care. I only brought her as she wanted to see Sakshi but I think we should shift her back to the hospital for a few days. "

Arnav asked, "Can't she stay here? I mean, you're here, everything you need, I'll get it here for you."

Vihaan gave in, "Okay fine, we just need to get some fluids back into her system and she needs a lot of love and affection.

Vihaan's words lingered in Arnav's mind, 'love and affection'' Arnav remembered how he had spoken to her a while ago. He closed his eyes in regret.

Vihaan took Arnav side to talk to him, while everyone else rushed inside to be at Khushi's side.

"What did you tell Khushi?"

"Huh, what?"

"Arnav, what did you tell her?"

"I, I"

"She was muttering, 'please don't take her away from me, 'What did you say?"

"Vihaan."

"Arnav, she just came out of coma. She's in a delicate state."

"She wanted to take Sakshi away from me, so I "

"So you what Arnav? Think before you speak in front of her."

Arnav nodded and stepped forward to inside to see Khushi.

Vihaan held his shoulder, "No, don't meet her."

"Why?"

"She needs rest and time Arnav, She came out of coma and her husband wants to take her baby away from her, the same husband who threw her out of the house and left her and that same baby she carried for 9 months and saw for the first time today, 1 year later. "

Arnav stared at him blankly. Vihaan held Arnav by the shoulder and said, "If she wants Sakshi, give her Sakshi, its her baby Arnav, she has a right. You left both of them' listen just make sure she's happy."

After everyone crowded the room for 2hours waiting for Khushi to wake up, Vihaan announced that everyone should just go and rest and that Khushi was fine.

Anjali stated, "Buaji, aap sab yahan rukiye aaj raat." (Buaji, you all stay here tonight)

The Gupta's agreed as they didn't have the heart to leave Khushi. If they went home their minds would have remained in the Raizada house and they won't have been able to sleep at all. They were shifted to the guest room. Vihaan went to the guest room he usually stayed in, and everyone retired to their respective rooms as it was nearly morning already.

(RM was close to the hospital, Vihaan would regularly stay over as it was easy to go to and fro' especially during Khushi's stay at the hospital)

Khushi woke up and studied her surroundings. She was in Arnav's bedroom. She was alone in the room. She sat up and glanced at the clock, it was past midnight. She got up and walked to the poolside. There were fairy lights all over, it looked so pretty. She turned around to see Arnav lying on the lounge chair with Sakshi on top of him, both of them snuggled into a blanket and sleeping.

Arnav woke up just as Khushi turned on her heels to walk back inside.

"Khushi wait."

She stopped in her steps and turned to see him getting up from the chair. He put the still sound asleep Sakshi on the bed and walked to where Khushi was standing. She looked into his eyes, waiting for him to speak.

"You can have her." Khushi heard him say in a low tone.

She wasn't sure if she had heard him right, "Huh?"

You wanted Sakshi right' you, you wanted to take her away'" He took a deep breath and continued, "Take her." He moved to the bed, kissed Sakshi and left the room without looking back at Khushi.

Khushi let out a breath that she didn't know she was holding in. She looked towards the direction Arnav stormed off too and then she looked at Sakshi. A lone tear streamed down Khushi's cheek. She sat on the bed and caressed her daughter's hair. "I don't want to separate you from your papa but I can't stay here and I can't let you stay away from me."

Khushi's heart pricked her knowing how difficult it must have been for Arnav to tell her to take Sakshi. She wasn't there for long but anyone could see how much he loved his baby. She lay on the bed and studied her little angel. Sakshi was really hers; it was just sinking it. She kept Sakshi close to her and dozed off in the early hours of the morning.

Khushi woke up to find the bed empty next to her. She immediately went into panic mood. 'Where was she' Sakshi' oh god' She was about to run outside the room, when she saw Arnav open the front door. He entered with Sakshi in his arms.

Khushi sighed in relief, "Sakshi." She kissed her and then hugged her. She looked at Arnav, "I thought' um"

Arnav stated, "Actually, Vihaan said that you needed rest so I took Sakshi out because she usually wakes up early."

Arnav kissed Sakshi. Sakshi put her little arms around Arnav's neck and pecked his cheek. Arnav smiled at his daughter's gesture. "Okay papa needs to go okay' go to mumma" Arnav said handing Sakshi to Khushi. But Sakshi didn't want to listen, she held onto Arnav's collar while Khushi's hand was left in mid-air.

Arnav sighed as his daughter shook her head, "My baby, listen this is your mumma." Arnav said pointing to Khushi. "She loves you more than papa, go to her." Sakshi listened attentively to Arnav's words, she looked at her papa and then to her 'mumma.' "Come on, go to mumma now." Sakshi nodded and leaped into Khushi's arms.

Arnav took his office clothes from the cupboard and made his way into the bathroom to change. He came out to see Sakshi playing on the bed with Khushi.

Arnav picked up his bag and kissed Sakshi, "Be a good girl. I'll be back in a while!"

Lavanya wanted to stay home to be with Khushi, but she had to go to the office along with Arnav and Akash. Throughout the day Anjali, Payal, Nani, Mami and the Guptas stayed with Khushi, so they could spend time with Khushi and also so that Sakshi wouldn't tire Khushi out as Khushi refused to rest saying that she missed out too much already; she couldn't miss out on anything more on Sakshi. By evening Khushi was exhausted and fell asleep in her mother's lap. Payal fed Sakshi and Anjali put her to sleep.

Khushi woke up around midnight, for the second night in a row. She looked over to her side to see Arnav on the recliner with Sakshi sleeping in his arms. She saw Arnav turn in her direction, he looked down at Sakshi and then brought her to the bed. He tilted his face to the side and said, "Kal Akash tumhe aur Sakshi ko Buaji ki ghar choor dohenge." (Tomorrow, Akash will drop you and Sakshi to Buaji's house.) Before Khushi could utter a word, Arnav grabbed his car keys and left the room.

Khushi opened the door to see her sister.

Payal's smile vanished, "Khushi aap theek ho na? " (Khushi, are you okay?)

Khushi nodded, "Ha Jiji, mein theek hoon" (Yes Jiji, im fine."

Payal interrupted, "Lekin aap toh'" (But you)

"Jiji woh raat ko theek se soyah toh isse liye." (Jiji, I didn't sleep properly last night, that's why)

"Sohya nahin, par kyon, kya Sakshi ne'" (You didn't sleep, but why, did Sakshi?)

"Nahin jiji, woh actually mujhe need nahin aye!" (No jiji, actually I just wasn't feeling sleepy)

"Okay, umm, let me get Sakshi ready and then we can leave for Buaji's"

Khushi nodded and Payal took Sakshi to bathe her and ready her.

Khushi sat on the bed and remembered why she didn't get any sleep. She was waiting to see when Arnav came home. When he came home at nearly 6am, Khushi pretended to be asleep. She heard the bedroom door open signalling that he had come and followed by some hushed sniffles, and then he moved to the bathroom.

'He was crying' she opened her eyes and thought to herself. She closed them back immediately when she heard the bathroom door open. He grabbed his phone and laptop bag and left the room. Khushi sat up on the bed when Arnav left. 'Arnavji's going to the office, itni subha subha.' (Arnav's going to the office so early.)

Khushi's thoughts were interrupted when she heard Payal's voice, "Yay, Sakshi madam is ready." Sakshi clapped her hands while Payal put her on the bed. Payal gathered all of Sakshi's stuff and made HP take them downstairs.

Payal took Sakshi into her arms, "Chaleye Khushi" (Lets go Khushi.) Khushi followed Payal down the stairs and they bid everyone goodbye. Mohan the driver drove Buaji, Garima and Shashi home while Akash drove Payal, Khushi and Sakshi home.

As soon as Akash dropped them off, he left straight for the office. Garima rushed inside the house and made the puja thaal. She returned to the front door with a smile on her face. Garima performed aarti for her two daughters and her granddaughter, only then they were allowed inside. Khushi scanned the house, it was just as she had remembered it, she thought. It was more than a year, nearly two years since she had come to Buaji's house, her maayka.

She walked inside Payal's and her room with Sakshi in tow. Khushi's eyes widened when she saw the room. Payal casually put Sakshi's bags on the table; she turned around only to see her sister's expression.

This wasn't Payal and Khushi's room anymore; it was Sakshi's room, by the looks of it. The room had a crib close to the wall. There a few framed pictures of Sakshi and Khushi on the wall. There was a stroller, baby carrier and a changing table.

Buaji entered and she too saw Khushi's expression, "Woh Arnav bitwa brought Sakshi here for us so we could see her and take care of her during the day sometimes'"
Payal continued, "So he made sure there was everything for our little princess."

Khushi just nodded, not knowing exactly what to say.

Garima entered the room, "Khushi, aap aaram karo, hum sab Sakshi ka kayal rakonge." (Khushi, you rest, we'll take care of Sakshi)

Khushi wanted to protest, as she wanted to spend time with her family but her exhaustion was getting the best of her, so she simply nodded and moved to the bed.

Khushi woke up around 4pm to hear a wailing, well more like bawling Sakshi. Khushi scurried out of the bed to find Sakshi in Buaji's arms. Khushi took her from Buaji, Sakshi's face was red, and her tears were streaming down her face nonstop.

While trying to hush Sakshi, Khushi asked, "Buaji woh itna kyon rooraha hai? (Buaji, why's she crying so much?) Is she hungry?

Buaji replied, "Nahin Sanka Devi, humnay inko dood pehlaya." (No, I fed her milk.)

Khushi then asked, "Jiji kahin hai? (Where's jiji?)

Garima answered, "Woh Akashi bitwa came and picked her up lunch time, she had to get some items for Shantivan." Garima continued "Betiya, mujhe dar lagraha hai, Sakshi beta kitna kabhi nahin rooye."(I'm feeling scared, Sakshi never cried so much before.)

Khushi nodded, Sakshi was still crying and Khushi was getting scared. 'The only person who could handle Sakshi was Arnavji,' she thought. Khushi handed Buaji Sakshi and she dialled Arnav's number.

Arnav picked up on the first ring. Before Khushi uttered a word, Arnav spoke, "Khushi is everything?" Before Khushi could reply, Arnav heard his daughter's wailing. Then came Khushi's voice, "Woh' she won't stop crying' we tried everything, I don't know what to do." While saying the last few words, Khushi broke out into a tiny sob. Khushi heard the affirmative words, "I'm coming now."

Arnav car pulled into Laxminagar within 10 minutes from leaving his office. Arnav knocked the door of the Gupta house. He could hear his angel's cries from outside. He couldn't wait any longer so he barged inside only to see Buaji just about to open the door. His eyes expressed a sorry and Buaji nodded.

As soon as Sakshi saw her papa, she leaped from Khushi's lap and into Arnav's arms. He took her into his arms as she sat on the couch. He snuggled her close to him for a few minutes. He reluctantly pulled away, "What happened to my angel?" She was still crying with her arms gripped onto Arnav's shirt. "Baby, shhh what's wrong? Daddy's here, he's not going anywhere." She looked up and touched Arnav's cheek. Arnav nodded to her, "Daddy's here." He wiped away her tears and Sakshi rested her head on Arnav's chest. Her crying subsided, but she didn't want to leave Arnav at all.

Arnav took Sakshi to the room and put her in the crib. Sakshi looked on attentively as her daddy took off his waistcoat, his tie and his shoes. He brought a set of toys, laying them on the floor. He then took her out of the crib and sat on the floor with her.

Khushi entered the room with a glass of water for Arnav. Arnav took it and Khushi looked on at Sakshi. She was making Arnav build things with her blocks. She had the widest smile ever; no one would have thought she was crying that much a while ago. Arnav had the exact smile mirrored on his face. The father daughter duo seemed inseparable.

Khushi turned to leave when Arnav called her to sit with them. Khushi hesitantly sat next to Arnav. Sakshi leaped into Khushi arms suddenly making Khushi lose her balance. Arnav caught her and steadied her. Sakshi handed Khushi a block, she then took Arnav's hand and put it on top of Khushi's. Before Khushi could ask, Arnav replied, "She wants us to play with her." Khushi nodded. They played with Sakshi until she felt sleepy. She leapt into Arnav's arms again. She played with Arnav's ear while her other hand played with Arnav's shirt buttons.

Arnav was about to put her in the crib but she tightened her grip on his shirt in her sleep. Arnav shook his head and smiled.He held her close to him and kissed her rosy cheek.

Khushi moved forward, "Let me help..." Arnav interrupted her, "no its okay, leave her, she'll wake up if I move her and as much as she missed me, I missed her, I don't wanna leave her just yet." Khushi nodded.

Khushi sat on the bed while Arnav sat on the chair, right next to the bed and Sakshi's crib.

Arnav looked at Khushi, "Umm can i speak with you... its about Sakshi and you."

Khushi looked at him and replied, "Okay."

Don't worry... They're gonna talk it out like adults... and resolve things. That doesnt mean that she's just gonna forgive him like that... but you'll see.. wait for the next chapter ❤️
