Part 3

The next couple of days went by, with Taani and her friends being busy with their work and their project. While the D3 team was busy with their work. So Taani and Rey did not get a chance to interact with each other, which Taani was grateful for, however Rey was just wishing to see her again and hopefully get a chance to explain things.

Taani's luck seemed to be running out as the weekend approached, as Swayam and Sharon made a plan for everyone to go to the Shekhawat Farmhouse for the weekend.

T: Bhai, you guys carry on, I don't think we will be able to come.

Sh: What, why?

T: Bhabhi, we all still have a lot of work to do for the pitch.

Sw: Taani, you all have been continuously working since you got here, and I have not said anything because it is your job. But now it is the weekend, and we have planned this trip for you. You have come home after 6 years Taani, 6 years; I just want to spend some time with my little sister, is that too much to ask?

T (rolled her eyes): Really Bhai, the emotional blackmail AGAIN?

Sw (smiled): Is it working?

T (sighed): Yes, fine, let's go. I'll manage the work somehow.

God, sometimes Taani hated her brother's stubbornness, but she couldn't complain much, since that part of the family gene was given to her too. So, finally the D3 team and Taani and her friends all made their way to the farmhouse. Rey tried to find ways to talk to her, but wasn't sure how to approach her. Whereas, Taani tried to keep a distance from him in a way where no one would notice anything was wrong. Everyone was in a happy mood, and she really didn't want to ruin it, especially for her bhai and bhabhi.

In the evening, everyone was sitting around a bonfire in the garden, except for Swayam who was in the house, checking on something. Rey, who was sitting next to Sharon, kept on trying to sneak peeks at Taani from across the fire, whereas Taani was busy talking to Ankita and Jai.

The D3 gang members (minus Shareyam) all huddle together, and look at Rey, then at Taani, then back at Rey, then back at Taani, like watching a tennis match.

V: Guys, I think Rey wants to talk to Taani.

Nil: Yup and Taani isn't giving him the time of day.

Si: She has been avoiding him all day.

V: Guys, we are Rey's friends, we have to help him.

Nil: Do you have a plan?

V: Yeah I do, come here.

All of the huddle closer together, while Vicky whispers the plan in their ears. They start to execute the plan and they all spread out in the garden.

The girls all went up to where Ankita and Taani were sitting, Amar went up to jai, Vicky and Nil went up to Arjun and Raj, while Bharat went up to Sharon and Rey.

A: Hey Jai, you are good with computers, right?

Jai: Yeah, why do you ask?

A: Actually, my laptop is having really big problems while rebooting, could you help?

Jai: Sure.

With that Jai followed Amar into the house. Meanwhile Vicky and Nil were talking to Arjun and Raj.

V: Hey, have you guys played the new PS6?

Raj: Don't tell me you have brought along the console.

V: Oh absolutely, I don't go anywhere without it.

Nil: You guys up for a game of FiFA?

Ar: Yeah sure, 2 on 2?

Nil: Kool, let's go.

With that the 4 of them headed into the house.

Bharat's task was quite simple.

Bh: Sharon, Swayam is calling you inside for some work, he can't find something.

Sh: Oh ok, Rey I'll be right back.

Rey just nodded his head and went back to looking at Taani talking to all the girls. Ankita looked around while talking and saw that everyone had cleared out and noticed what was going on. The girls were all just talking about clothes, shopping etc. Taani wasn't really paying attention, but just nodded along as they were talking.

N: Neha loves your top Ankita

An: Oh thank you, I bought it on a trip to Nepal.

Si: oh really, that's interesting

An: Yah, I have these beautiful earrings to match, they are upstairs in my room, do you guys want to see?

Girls (minus Taani): Yah sure, let's go

All the girls stood up, and Taani snapped out of her daze, and stood up along with them, and seeing Taani stand up, Rey stood up too.

T (getting nervous to be alone with Rey): Where are you going?

An: I'm going to show them the pearls earrings I bought from Nepal, remember?

T: Oh ok, I'll come too.

An: Why? You stay here, you've already seen them, and I know you are always trying to steal them from me, so I don't trust you.

T (getting nervous): Please Ankita, I won't steal them, I'm coming too.

An: no, I don't trust you at all. You stay here (looks around) Give Rey company, we'll be back.

With that the girls hurry off, and only Rey and Taani are left in the garden. They look around awkwardly not knowing what to say or do, or where to start.

R (trying to break the ice): Hi

T (rubbing her palms together nervously and looking everywhere, except for Rey's face): Hi

R: How are you?

T (Looking at the floor): I'm fine, how are you?

R: What, you can't even look at me now?

T (taking a deep breath and looking up to face Rey, she put on a fake smile): I'm fine Rey, how are you?

R: I can still tell when your smile isn't genuine Taani.

T: Rey, can we please not go there.

R (taking a deep breath): Taani, since you've been back, I've been wanting to talk to you, explain things to you. You do not know the whole truth about what happened 6 years ago.

T: Rey, can we please drop this, I really don't want to talk about anything that happened 6 years ago.

R (taking a step forward): Taani, please..

T (interrupts him, takes a step a back and turns around facing away from him): Rey, please I don't want to talk about anything.

R: OK, Taani, look I know I hurt you, but there are thi..

T (shocked and angry, she spins around to face him and shouts): HURT? YOU THINK YOU HURT ME? YOU BROKE ME REY!! YOU BROKE ME!!

Hearing Taani shout, everyone ran out to the garden, and saw Rey and Taani facing each other.

R (trying to calm her down): Look, I know you're mad, and you have every right to be, but there was a reason behind what I did and what I said.

T (gets even more angry and her eyes fill with tears of hurt, betrayal and rage): REASON? YOU HAD A REASON BEHIND WHAT YOU DID. YOU ACTUALLY THINK YOU CAN JUSTIFY BREAKING MY HEART BY SAYING THERE WAS A REASON BEHIND IT. I DON'T CARE WHAT YOUR REASON WAS MR. REYAANSH SINGHANIA BECAUSE THERE ISNT A VALID ENOUGH REASON TO JUSTIFY YOUR ACTIONS. BUT I HAVE TO SAY THANK YOU MR REYAANSH SINGHANIA, YOU REALLY TAUGHT ME A GOOD LIFE LESSON, THAT LOVE LOOKS GOOD ONLY IN BOOKS AND FILMS; THERE IS NO SPACE FOR IT IN REAL LIFE. AND THANKS TO YOU, I AM NO LONGER THAT STUPID GIRL FROM 6 YEARS AGO, I HA..

Taani stopped talking when she realized that everyone was standing in the garden watching them. She looked at them, then back at Rey and then back at everyone else. She wiped the tears which had overflowed from her eyes and ran leaving the garden and going to her bedroom, with her friends behind her.

Meanwhile, Rey was shocked and hurt too. He wasn't hurt that she hated him; he was hurt because he was the one who caused her so much pain. He knew he had broken her heart, but she didn't know that he had broken his own in the process too. He stood perfectly still, with tears gathering in his eyes. He hadn't realized when his friends had come and stood behind him. He hadn't noticed until Swayam placed a hand on Rey's shoulder. Rey turns around with tears in his eyes, and as soon as he sees Swayam, he hugs him tight and breaks down crying.

R (while crying): She hates me, she hates me Swayam.

Seeing Rey like this caused everyone's eyes to tear up.

Whereas, Taani ran straight to her room, fell on her bed and started crying. Her friends were at the door and about to enter, when Ankita stopped them.

An: Guys, maybe I should talk to her alone, I think that would be better.

Raj: But Ankita, she needs us right now

An: Raj, it'll be much easier for her to talk to me right now

Arjun, Raj and Jai agreed and headed back to their rooms, while Ankita entered the bedroom. She saw Taani crying on the bed walked up to her, and sat next to her on the bed.

An: Taani?

Taani stopped crying for a second, looked up, hugged Ankita and then broke down crying once again. Ankita hugged her back, trying to calm her down.

An (rubbing her back): Sshhh, it's ok Taani, it's ok.

T (sobbing): Why did I do that Ankita, why? It's been 6 years, it shouldn't affect me anymore. I should have been able to let it go, why haven't I been able to let it go?

Taani and Ankita broke apart, and Ankita handed her a glass of water to help calm her down.

An: First, drink this, and calm down.

Taani drank the water, which helped her stop crying, but her face was still full of tear stains.

An: You can't blame yourself Taani, the hurt, the betrayal, the anger that has been building inside of you for 6 years, what you kept pushing down all these years had to come out some day, and that day just happened to be today.

T: But it has been 6 years Ankita, 6 bloody years, how can he still affect me so much. I've moved on with my life, well at least I thought I did, until I saw him, when I saw him again Ankita, I just felt like, I felt like I was back where I was 6 years ago, I felt my heart breaking all over again. It should not be this hard to forget someone.

An: You loved him Taani, more than anything, actually you still do, I know you do, I see it in your eyes, even if you won't admit it, even if you don't want to, but I understand why you don't. He broke your heart Taani, he broke your trust, and that is not an easy thing to forget, even if he didn't have bad intentions, he still hurt you, and you cannot blame yourself for not moving past it, for not being able to forgive him. You are human Taani, and it is not easy to forget the person who you love.

Taani stared at her and just nodded her head to show Ankita that she understood what she was saying.

An: But why didn't you tell him, you already know the reason why he said and did those things all those years ago? I mean Swayam already told you, so why not tell Rey, that you know.

Taani started thinking for a minute; she remembered the time Swayam had told her the truth behind Rey wanting to break up with her.

***FLASHBACK***

It had been 2 years since Taani had left Mumbai and shifted to Delhi. It was a Sunday and Taani was just sitting in her apartment doing some office work, when she got a call from her brother.

T: Hello?

Sw: Hey Taani

T: Hi Bhai, how are you?

Sw: Im fine, how are you? How's work?

T: I'm fine, work is going ok, we have just got a deadline coming up, so have been busy with that.

Sw: Oh ok.

After that Swayam didn't say anything, he was just silent on the phone.

T: Bhai, is everything ok?

Sw (much too quickly): Yah everything's fine why wouldn't everything be fine everything is great.

T: Bhai, what's wrong?

Sw (after thinking for a minute): Taani, I need to tell you something, but I'm not sure if I should tell you

T (laughs): Come on Bhai, you cannot say that and then not tell me

Sw (dead serious): It's about Rey.

Taani stopped laughing and was shocked. There was pin drop silence on the phone.

T (holding back tears): I don't want to talk about Rey

Sw: Taani it's important.

For a minute she got worried, was he okay? Was he hurt? Did something happen to him? But she pushed all those thoughts down inside of her; she didn't have the right to worry about him anymore. It took her all the effort in the world to sound indifferent.

T: I don't want to know

Sw: Taani, just listen once, and then if you want, I'll never mention him again. But I think you have a right to know this.

Now she was really worried, she needed to know if he was okay, damn the fact if she had a right on him or not, she just had to know and couldn't control her emotions any longer.

T (scared): What happened, Bhai?

Sw: Taani, whatever happened 2 years ago, isn't what you think. What really happened was..

Swayam went onto tell Taani the true details behind her 'break up' with Rey. Why Rey did what he did and said what he said. What his true intentions behind the break up was. After hearing everything Taani was shocked. She didn't know what to say, so she quickly told Swayam, that she would call him back, and hung up the phone. She didn't sleep that entire night, she just kept going over everything over and over in her head.

The next morning, she called Swayam back.

Sw: Taani, are you ok?

T (smiling at his concern): I'm fine Bhai

Sw: Did you think about what I told you?

T: Did Rey tell you to tell me this Bhai

Sw: No, he doesn't even know I told you, that is why I wasn't sure whether I should tell you or not, but I thought you had the right to know the truth.

T: Bhai, please do not tell Rey you told me.

Sw: What, why?

T: Because I don't want your friendship to suffer because of me, I don't want Rey to think that you broke his trust.

Sw: But Taani, now that you know the truth, don't you..

T (interrupting him): it doesn't change anything Bhai, my life is here in Delhi now, and I am happy. I have moved on with my life.

Sw: Are you sure Taani?

T: Absolutely bhai.

***END OF FLASHBACK***

T: I didn't tell him because, one, Bhai told me that without telling Rey, and two, because it still doesn't change anything. No relationship can work without trust, and Rey never trusted me, I guess it was always there, I just never saw the signs. (Stands up, and starts pacing the room) I understand he didn't want me to be dependent on him, but why couldn't he talk to me about it, why did he have to go behind my back, and plot with his friends to manipulate me into breaking up with him, from which angle does that seem like a healthy relationship Ankita?

An: Taani, I understand that, really I do. But is that the only reason you don't want to be with him? Are you sure the real reason isn't the fact that you're.. (Gestures her hands as if making a point) you know.

T: I don't know, maybe, probably yes. It is a contributing factor. I don't know Ankita, I'm so confused, I don't know why I can't be with Rey, is it because of what happened 6 years ago, or because of the circumstances now, I don't know. But one thing is absolutely clear, that Rey and I can never be together.

An: Taani, maybe you should tell him..

T: NO!!! I AM NOT TELLING HIM ANYTHING! OK?

An (nodes her head slowly): Ok
