Chapter 3
It was one of the most difficult things he had had to do. Trying to keep his anger intact while she stood there with her huge hazel, doe like eyes imploring him to give in, her deep brown tresses inviting him to run his fingers through them, her porcelain cheeks with a hint of pink, pleading with him to assess their smoothness, her mouth in the most adorable pout, with her lower lip slightly protruding out, taking all of his self-control to keep himself from pushing her against the nearest wall and teaching her a lesson for teasing him like that. And just like that Arnav Singh Raizada was lost cause.
It was hilarious really, the great Arnav Singh Raizada who proudly claimed to be amongst the most in control species of the human race, was day dreaming in broad daylight, in the most unromantic setting of his office about a women standing about an arms distance from him.
He had dated his share of beautiful women, being the CEO of India's leading fashion house put him in a very desirable position for women, his good looks and arrogant attitude which gave him a mysterious air made him downright irresistible.
But it was something about this child woman that awakened his basic instincts, his inner most cave man came to life, his need to protect, his possessiveness, his need to consume her all came to the forefront. Something any other women had not been able to evoke in him.
All these feelings were still new to him and were over whelming at times. It was exhausting for him to not know what he was supposed to do, how he was expected to act. He was tired of always putting a facade in front of her when all he really wanted to do was gather her in his arms and never let go. But he knew he would terrify her if he were to act upon any of the thoughts that plagued his days and nights.
But of one thing he was certain she was supposed to be close to him, where he could look at her to his hearts content, touch her, smell that fragrance that was distinctly khushi, lavender with a hint of coco.
Arnav smiled now, not the usual smirks he gave when he found something amusing, not the tender smiles when di admonished him for not taking his medicines on time, but a heartfelt toothy grin that reached his eyes making his deep brown irises twinkle. He remembered the exact moment when it had all began. It was an earth shattering moment of realization, he remembered himself being terrified at first, an emotion he was not well acquainted with which made it all the more disturbing.
It was a month ago when Khushi was supposed to leave for her friend's wedding in Shimla. He and Rohan had dropped her to the airport. And Rohan being the protective elder brother that he was kept reprimanding her about the dos and don'ts during the weeklong trip, while Khushi was clearly irritated at being treated like a child. Arnav throughout the ride had laughed at her expense which had added to her annoyance.
When they reached the airport she had hugged both of them and started towards the entrance, and then it had happened, the exact moment when his world had found a new gravity point or maybe he had only recognized it then, he did not know.
But when she had waved at them for the last time with a sad smile on her face before disappearing behind the glass doors, something inside him had just clicked, She was going way ,
Everything from then on had gone in slow motion. The wind had picked up speed, everyone had blurred out but he could see her more clearly than he had ever before as if a shield had been lifted, all noises had ceased to exist and all he could hear were her heartbeats exactly in phase with his
Dhak..dhak'dhak..dhak.
He could swear he felt his heart try to leap out of his chest as if trying to go the way she had just disappeared to. He stood there incapable of movement, his hands limp by his sides, panic gripping his insides making it hard to breath.
"jab vo tum say door jaye gi'tou tumhari sansain hi ruk jayen gi"
It was Rohans insistent taps on his shoulder that bought him back to earth. He looked at him for a moment before turning his gaze back in her direction, but she was gone.
It came to him then, like a flash of lightning,
Arnav Singh Raizada was in love.
He had wanted to cry and laugh at the same time. What the hell was happening to him?...had di's mindless talks finally gotten to him?...had he finally lost his mind?...
Is this what it felt like'..was it really that easy?...But why didn't it feel like how di and khushi had described it?...there was no music in the background'.no flowers falling from the heavens'..there was this vacuum where his heart used to be'.he felt oddly empty.
"Arnav are you okay?...you look pale" , Rohans voice bought him back and he nodded slowly in answer
Arnav remembered how the next week had been nothing short of hell. He had counted each minute, each hour, each day till Khushi was supposed to return. Delhi had not seemed like home anymore, it was odd since he had lived his entire life there.
He had still found it difficult with all these new emotions taking control of him. But Khushi's absence had made him realize how important she had become for his survival and once he had truly embraced his feelings it felt oddly liberating like he had broken free of all the shackles binding him to the earth and was soaring towards the skies.
Arnav remembered standing in the waiting area, pushing himself up against his toes trying to peak at the passengers making their way from the departure area.
What was taking her so long?
And then he saw her making her way through the crowd, looking even more beautiful than he remembered in her yellow dress, Her hair in a high ponytail which made her neck seem even longer, Her eyes dancing in mischeif, her earings dangling as she threw her head back and laughed at something the girl beside her said.
Arnav shook his head then, a knowing smile on his face. She always was able to make friends in the most odd circumstances, a quality he sorely lacked.
Arnav watched as she turned towards the waiting area scanning the crowd, Her gaze finally landing on him. Her eyes widened slightly surprize clear in them,She smiled then, that unhindered warm smile of hers. And all was perfect again,
She was smiling,at him.
