I have read 5 chapters of this story & I've never read BTLSS by Munchy. So it's obvious that I don't have the slightest idea about that story. But I still think that Rae is not that kind of a person who'd plagiarize someones's work. If she ever writes something inspired from a movie/show/other people's work then she never forgets to credit them. Never. So whomsoever thinks that she has plagiarized Munchy's FF should post a link to her FF here & let the readers decide for themselves.

I've spoken to her and I've gotten her side. Her problem isn't with your story or your characters or with the setting or the theme. It's obvious that genre pieces, such as this, will inevitably end up having similar characters and similar scenarios so she doesn't really care about most of it.

Her issue, and the other writer's issue is with one scene.

One scene in Chapter Eight which is, having now read both, undeniably almost the same, obviously writing styles are different but the scene itself is exactly the same.

I'm not saying it's plagiarism as maybe you genuinely did forget it happened in BTLSS. It's one of my favourite stories and I didn't even remember the scene fully.

But to twist things like this and make it sound like she was attacking you for the whole story is horribly unfair and tacky. I don't really see what business of IFs any of this is, if you're sure you didn't plagiarise and nobody else has pointed out similarities to you, then why bother airing it in front of people who have nothing to do with it?

This really should have just stayed between you and Munchy. Now it makes you look like you just did this for attention. From you, Rae, I really did expect better than this biased, exaggerated account on a platform where the person you're attacking can't defend herself or her position. To bias people against her like this is just undignified and unnecessary.

I hope you get whatever it is you wanted to achieve by doing this.

Why don't you link the chapter of Before The Last Sun Set alongside the chapter of Through The Looking Glass and let the readers decide for themselves whether the similarities are too much or not? You're sure it's not plagiarised. Okay. Your readers are intelligent enough to come down on a side themselves- as ultimately, that's all that this post has succeeded in doing, creating an Us vs. Them scenario.

Sorry for not replying earlier Rafa. I had gone off IF last night, am replying as soon as I came on via computer.

About Munchy and the other writer's accusations - I have mentioned that they felt that a chapter was exactly similar but along with that the other writer told me that till now she hadnt seen any of the movie this is inspired from but just Munchy's story and all this despite the introductory note which states that TTLG is a vague inspiration from the film Gangster and will have my own twists.

Now as for me, I have written all that I wanted in the note. I remember the basic storyline of BTLSS and of Gangster and nothing in detail of either and my story is NOT inspired by BTLSS AT ALL. The scene she is referring to of Arnav standing up for his lady love is a scene similarly depicted in countless movies, books etc and I sincerely dont remember that scene from BTLSS and hence find it a little difficult to believe that I could have copied something I dont remember.

About your suggestion to put chapters alongside - I told Munchy the same as I am telling you here - do what you want. She has already opened the story once again so people can read both the stories and see for themselves, not in isolation as some would prefer but in whole and get to their own conclusion.

And as far as posting this here is concerned, after the nameless yet pointed allegations on Twitter before they even spoke to me, in fact it was I who initiated the conversation after seeing those tweets, I felt it was my duty to be clear with my readers. I have not uttered a word against Munchy or her friend in my note and just put forth my view, hence I really dont think I am engineering any 'Us VS Them' situation here.

Rae honestly I haven't had the opportunity to read BTLSS at all so I don't know abt its storyline at all but from the time I've known u, I've always seen u to b a person who strongly fought against the issues of plagiarism & asked others to support the move & so I'm sure u can never ever do the same u've been accused of.

Oh God, not again!

Although I'm not privy to the complete details of what happened previously, I know this much that a very good writer "Serialjunkie" was wrongly accused of plagiarism just because her Khushi was a half blood in one of her stories and her Arnav drank the same drink that another writer's Arnav drank. Both instances of so called plagiarism were ridiculous. No body owns a certain drink or a car brand for that matter. The stories were completely different.

And now again, though I haven't read any of Rae's work and I did read BTLSS a year ago, I feel that accusing a person who initiated the fight against plagiarism on IF, is awfully wrong. We have a few writers left on IF, the rest have moved on to restricted blogs, please let them write for us.

The best thing to do as someone else suggested here would be for Munchy and Anne to remove the names of Arnav and Khushi from their stories, and carry on writing for themselves or for their few friends and the writers of IF write for common readers who come here to read about Arnav and Khushi and are hardly aware of all the politics that are going on.

I remember reading munchy's BTLSS and it was phenomenal. I have been following your story from day one, apart from the underworld setting and Arnav being a gangster, no other character / plot or dialogue seem to be plagiarized / copied in any way.

Plaigirizm is quite a serious allegation and I can see you being one of the main person who initiated the Anti plagiarizing campaign must be seriously pained and hurt . Hope all issues are resloved and does not affect your writing at all.

Rae, a lesson to learn: Whenever inspiration strikes, ask the high and mighty and 'veteran' writers to give us permission to write a story to check if even one syllable matches with theirs. As everything THEY write is original including car models and alcohol brands or types or whatever! and wheres as what we write ALWAYS falls under plagiarism.

Even if the entire forum says you have plagiarized I would NEVER believe it! I am with you (even though I have not read this story)

Don't take it to your heart. Some people are not worth it!

I haven't read Munchy's BTLSS as her work is on a closed blog, so don't know the scene or chapter being discussed here. But the little I know you, I'm sure it's just a misunderstanding.
You & Krani are the two people who are actively fighting against this threat of plagiarism.
A person like you who initiated the fight against plagiarism and who himself is a victim of it is not so lame to copy someone else's work.

You would have credited her if LTTG was inspired from BTLSS as you credited Gangster.
Don't worry we do know that you won't do something you condemn yourself.

Okay. So I haven't read BTLSS before...so I have absolutely no idea exactly how these two stories are being compared. But if its simply on the basis of Arnav being a gangster in both...then that is no reason for calling it plagiarism. Many of the FF's here depict Arnav as a businessman... does that make all of us writers plagiarists? Having a similar profession doesn't imply you have copied the story as the job in itself cannot be copyrighted by anyone.

Also, you're one of the most active people on the forum fighting against plagiarism. Having experienced plagiarism yourself, you would never inflict it on any one else.

Plus, you're a brilliant writer. You don't need anybody else's writing to make a mark. :)

This is my opinion. And considering the story is still in its initial stages...I want Rae to continue telling the story her own way so that all the people accusing her of this can see for themselves how different the two plots are.

I have read both stories and I remember your reply when I pointed out to you how much I enjoyed BTLSS. This was your reply to my reference.

As much as I appreciate Munchy's writings (that I truly miss as she has restricted all her works), I do not believe for a second that you have taken anything from her story. The scene they are referring to is a classic scene that has been part of any gangster movies where the hero has to justify his love in front of the Don. So there was no way for you to not include a scene like this in your story. I hope she appreciates the fact that you have led the fight against plagiarism which include defending her works as well. I do hope that this is nothing but a misunderstanding, hopefully one that she can speak to you directly about as opposed to air it out in the social networking world.

WHAT'S HAPPENING ON IF... I havent read BTLSS till its ending as it was closed due to palgiarism issue n I think I havent read it even half or may b I did cant remember right now... Anyways so m hell confuse now coz wht I read here n wht I vaguely remember of BTLSS I dont find anything similar(or I dont remember) except both the Arnavs being gangster and somehow I felt mamun jan of TTLG and bhai jan(I guess it was da name in BTLSS) the way both behaved... Now why I am confused I cant make things out when at one level I cant find similarities I cant find any reason why would Munchy will say so... You both r awesome writers n I have read a few comment on ur note n comments on Munchy's post which was her last post on IF abt a frnd plagiarising her story which I havent read at all... Nyways I dont know y ppl regard Munchy as if she is very rude n dry but I found hr quite nice n sensible yes she is outspoken but still I dont know y ppl regard her in tht way so I cant find any reason for her for accusing without any reason and I dont find any reason for u too to copy anyones work so it might b a by chance thing... Something which happend unintentionaly... I dont know m on the verge of pulling my hair out but one thing can say whatever happend it must have happend unintentionally n by chance as I dont find no reason for u to do the copy thing but as I said before I dont find any reason for Munchy to through false accusation... I think its a similar incident as happend btw Lyraa n the other writer where the latter wrote a small passage which had similar dialogues as Lyraa's ff n she removed it accepting tht it has happend unintentionally... So thts y m saying tht u both r may b right at ur stance n I m unable to b on either one of u side... I have requested to follow Munchy's twitter will try talk to her too though we r not frnds but still would like to know her point as well
