Chapter 11

"Lag Ja Gale Ki Phir Ye Hasin Raat Ho Na Ho..."

A distant melody played quite audibly as she stood in the balcony, with her arms crossed, staring at moon, in quite a cheesy way, as she could put it.

All she needed was a male by her side and the picture would be complete. A perfect cheesy romance of 1980s.

She felt bubbling laughter at her lips, as she shook her head and shifted her gaze towards the palatial house that glowed in moonlight...

A garden separated the guest house they had been staying from the groom's mansion, and this particular view she got from her balcony showed her the right side of the mansion, which is now basking in the glory of festival glow, with it being decorated with the lights, that emanated a golden glow, in the front.

Yet, the glow was in sharp contrast with the darker shadows that loomed to the south of the mansion, unused that part of the house was.

How ironic it seemed to her, the contrast.

While everyone saw the glowing festivities and happiness that spread around, no one actually looked through the gloom that surrounded the bride's heart...her best friend's.

Lavanya sat on the parapet wall, swinging her feet on the other side of the wall, letting the cool breeze tingle the base of her feet.

She knew Khushi since kindergarten and both of them had been through things in life and had become what they are today. That had made both of them understand facets of each other much deeply.

Khushi never questioned her reasons of not asking Saran out, since she understood her need of wanting to be claimed.

With her parents' marriage failing at an early age, and most part of her childhood shuttled between her parents, listening to their side of story every time she visited them each, Lavanya had more and more become detached or so she showed the world.

Khushi knew her before that surface. She understood the fears of that child Lavanya who wanted to be told that everything will be alright, and that someone's there for her.

She liked Saran, but underneath the surface, she deserved a person who would let her fears dissipate, who would give that support to make her feel cherished, loved.

Lavanya took a deep breath of the fresh breeze and closed her eyes.

Khushi had understood her reasons and stayed as her shadow holding her hand, not taking things into her hand, and it was Lavanya's turn now to do just that.

It was so easy to walk to that Mr. Raizada and have a verbal jab. It was so difficult not to be sarcastic, it was so tempting to slap the shit out of that person, especially when he had dared to walk into the Gupta's apartment in Seattle that night, and reveal in his oh so dramatic way that he was Arnav Amarjeet Singh Raizada.

She felt her nails dig into her palm as she recalled Khushi's face.

To the world, it might not have been visible. But to her, it was. What she saw in Khushi's eyes that night was surety of her feelings. There was a strange light, when she first saw him walking towards her.

Lavanya knew enough to believe that Khushi would have never confessed even to herself if she liked somebody, but that day she had seen the candid feelings that shined through her eyes, and when he said he was Arnav Amarjeet Raizada something changed. It was as if the light in her eyes dimmed, as if something was broken... the thin layer of moisture in her eyes told her the hurt that might he caused her and at that moment she had hated the Raizada with all her life.

That man might have just pulled a prank successfully without knowing that he made her self-doubt. Her trust was shaken. She no longer knew what to believe. If Lavanya knew Khushi at all, she knew that Khushi might be going through all that was transpired between her and Arnav and would be questioning which of them are genuine and which are not. Khushi would not know what parts of what transpired among them to trust anymore, and would end up believing it is all a farce, which might as well had been.

While she was supposed to be looking forward for her wedding, and be pampered like a bride, her best friend is full of self-doubts and made her swear to leave her alone for an hour.

"f**k the Raizada. f**k all men. f**k weddings" Lavanya muttered.

"Excuse me" a surprised voice drawled, making her turn and look over her shoulder only to find a six feet two inches male standing before her. She would have termed him handsome if only he weren't a Raizada. But since he was a Raizada, and worse the brother of that jerk Arnav Amar Jeet asshole Raizada, Lavanya saved the deepest sarcasm for him; Arjun.

"Did you just say something?"

Lavanya closed her eyes in irritation.

Doesn't Raizada men know something called basic manners? Does she now need to tell him that she wants him to f**k off?

"Ma'am?" he tried again.

"Yes?" she snapped at him.

"Did I mishear?"

"No you didn't. I said f**k the Raizada"

He remained silent for a while before a small smile appeared on his lips.

"Any specific Raizada"

"No of course not, I don't mind all the younger f**ked up Raizadas f**king themselves too"

Arjun laughed, a rich laughter, the smoothness of his voice, the rich heavy laughter echoing in the otherwise silent night.

Climbing on the parapet wall himself with a smooth jump, he faced her, his kind grey eyes looking at her with warmth. "You seem frustrated ma'am"

"Yes, I was sex starved for so long, hence frustrated. Want to help?"

The smile on Arjun's lips remained frozen for a second, before his lips stretched to give a full blown grin. "If you insist"

With that, his hands went around her waist, pulling her closer, making her hands fall on his chest, at the unforeseen assault.

"Do you want me to take you in here? Right on the parapet wall? Or do you want to go into the room?"

Her hands fisted around his shirt and she tried in vain, to pull her hands off his grip.

"Let go of me"

"Na-ah"

"Let go you perverted""

"Arjun. Call me Arjun"

Something about his voice silenced her. It was warm, soft and caressing. The simple sentence was more of a request. It was like an urge of being called by the name, from her lips. And when she looked at him, she made the mistake of looking at his eyes.

Those grey eyes looked at her through the rimless spectacles that gave his intelligent face a softer light.

"Anger gives your cheeks a brighter blush" he said touching the tips of his fingers gingerly to her cheek, and something strange settled in her stomach at the sudden simple yet intimate touch.

It took her a beat to realize he let go off her wrists long time ago, and that it was her fisting his shirt in her hands now. It was only her holding him.

She pulled back her hands, and swinging her legs over, got down and started walking away.

"It is too early to judge harshly Lavanya" she heard him say from behind her.

"My judgment is not going to make any difference to anyone"

"Would you believe if I say it does?"

He didn't hear a reply for that except for the footsteps that indicated her departure.

He smiled as he looked back at the mansion as she whistled the tune of the song that was playing in the background...

Ahhh finally. Good to hear from you.

She understands Khushi because she's been the closest to her so her frustration and anger is justified. You never want your loved ones hurt.

What an interesting encounter. This seems like the start to new feelings.

Hope to see you updating this regularly.

Chapter 12

Dreams, what are they? The moments your subconscious conjure, the fantasies you wish to be true?

What really are they?

As Khushi walked down the stairs, with her eyes strictly down, she felt she was in a dream, and that she would wake up to another morning.

The grip of Lavanya around her wrist was the only thing that held her from falling apart. She took support of that thin thread of rationality and support from her best friend as she walked towards the aisle.

Why had it for a moment felt silence then she knew not. It was as if everything stopped by, and beckoned her to raise her eyes, and she did just that.

With his eyes not looking at anything but her, his gaze holding an intensity that would make her wanting to look away and look at him at the same time, there stood her groom, waiting for her to step forward, with his hand extended towards her.

It was a leap of faith from rationality to reality, from normalcy to dreamlike state as she felt Lavanya's grip loosen from her wrist, and as she rested her hand in his extended palm.

She didn't want to think, she didn't want to feel, she didn't want to read too much between the lines, she didn't want to see everything through her eyes that would taint the entire picture and present her a rosy world, yet as she felt her hand securely resting in his, she felt a sense of protection, a sense of warmth spread through her.

As they took vows that tied them as Man and wife, she felt herself repeating each vow with her heart put in it, and as he filled vermilion in the parting of her hair, she closed her eyes too overwhelmed, with a sheen of tears that appeared under her lids, and with those feelings of hers which burst through her heart; fear, nervousness and love.

Yes, love.

As she raised her eyes to her husband, and felt him returning her gaze with a small blink of his eyes as if reassuring her, she felt tenderness burst through her.

There were doubts niggling at the back of her mind, and there were questions perhaps, but at the moment when she promised herself to be tied to a man she loved, she let her instincts take on, and took that leap of faith.

If it were a dream, so be it.
