WEEK 3

Day 1

Arnav would look at Khushi's disturbed face and feel upset himself, but then he would remember she was messing with his sister's life and he would feel appeased knowing that she was in for a big shock.

Day 2

"Shyamji, you know who is coming tomorrow?" Anjali asked, folding the clothes and setting them inside the cupboard.

"Who Rani Sahiba?" Shyam asked, removing his socks.

"Babli is coming…"

"That is quite unfortunate! I am leaving today evening!" Shyam said sadly.

"But…Shyamji you haven't met her for the last two years! I mean, you have never even seen her since Akash got her home two years back!"

Shyam stood up and held her shoulders. "Rani Sahiba, I know its sad, but I have to leave! I will meet her surely for the next time!"

Whatever! Anjali thought.

"Okay…"

Day 3

Khushi arranged the bedsheets in place and walked out of the room after getting ready in a pale pink saree with dark pink roses embroidered on the borders.

As she walked down, she saw to her surprise that even Akash was home.

"Jiju, no office?" she asked surprised.

Akash smiled happily. "No! We are preparing for the arrival of a special guest!"

Khushi frowned. "Huh, who?"

"That's a surprise Khushiji…! You will see tomorrow!" Akash winked, and hurried upstairs.

Feeling surprised, she walked into the kitchen to see that it was bustling with women busy cooking.

"Arey, HPji not too much spice! She won't be able to eat!" Anjali said anxiously.

"Oh, Phatti Saree! Here you are! Make jalebeej pilleej! Abhar chhote guestwa loves Jalebis!" Mami chanted.

Khushi took an instant liking to this unknown guest. How could she not like someone who loved jalebis!

So she got to work, tucking her pallu at her waist.

"Khushiji, after you are done, please keep the jalebis in the fridge… She loves it cold!" Anjali smiled.

Khushi eyes moistened. Her little Dee also loved it that way…!

Khushi smiled and continued making jalebis, getting curious about this little guest.

When Arnav returned home, she gave him water and left without a word. It had been days since he had heard Khushi speak.

He had to leave before she woke up, and when he came back and she wouldn't speak a word to anyone in front of him.

Suddenly, a paper was thrust in front of his nose.

Who is coming tomorrow?

He looked up incredulously.

Khushi was standing two feet away from him, with her hands crossed and gesturing with her eyes at the paper.

"Are you serious!" he asked incredulously.

She nodded once.

She withdrew the paper and wrote something again.

I don't want to talk to you. But tell me. Who is coming tomorrow?

"Nobody told you?"

Khushi shook her head.

"Why?"

She frowned and scribbled again.

They say it's a surprise.

Arnav grinned. "Well, a surprise it will be…"

She fumed.

Laad Governor!

She wrote and threw it at his face and walked away.

"Khushi?"

She stopped.

"I am sorry"

She shook her head and walked away.

Arnav closed his eyes, feeling sick. No matter how Khushi was, that didn't give him the right to sleep around with other women! That was so beneath him…. Guilt began to seep into his system as he remembered how terrified Khushi looked everytime he tried to touch her and the harshness with which she seemed to taunt him… And what hurt was her acceptance…

If only he knew….

DAY 4

Babli was expected to come at night at about eight. Khushi was asleep, an afternoon nap which turned to evening nap and started into the night.

Khushi woke up to the sound of Anjali's voice. "Khushiji, Babli is here!"

Khushi hurriedly woke up and walked to the door and greeted and apologized to Anjali.

"By the way, Di where is Shyamji?" she asked anxiously.

"Don't worry Khushiji. He is away on one of his er, business trips…"

With that, Anjali walked away, and Khushi froze when she heard a loud voice.

"Mr. A where is my babs!!!" came the voice of a little child.

Why in the world did that voice sound so familiar!

"Miss B your babs has gone to the market!"

"Mr.A, who made these jalebis?"

"Well, Arnav Bhaiyya's wife made it! Why?"

"These remind me of jalebis my Chhoti Bui used to make…"

And that was it. Khushi's sleep went out of the window.

She literally FLEW downstairs and barged into the living room, her eyes wild and hair still out of place, her eyes searching for just one person.

Everyone looked up shocked, to see an unkempt Khushi.

Khushi ignored everyone's faces as her gaze landed on the face of a six-year old girl, with her Bhaiyya's eyes and Bhabhi's hair. The child's eyes were wide, making her look much like Khushi.

Khushi's eyes filled with tears, which soon turned to sobs.

Everyone almost got up from their seats, looking worriedly at her, but Khushi had her eyes only on the child.

Keeping her gaze locked with the child's, Khushi went on to her knees and opened her arms.

The child blinked a few times and flew into Khushi's arms crying. "Chhoti Bui!"

As soon as the words were uttered, Nani and Mamiji gasped in shock, while Akash stared uncomprehendingly.

Anjali stood up, understanding in a flash.

Khushi clasped her tightly, sobbing into the child's hair.

"Dee!!" Khushi cried.

Khushi saw Payal entering the house, over Dee's shoulder.

"Jiji!"

Payal jumped, startled. "Khushi, what-"

"Jiji, look!"

Dee turned around and exclaimed. "Badi Bui!" and ran and hugged Payal's legs. Payal stared at the girl in shock.

"Khushi, is this-" Payal said, tearing up.

Khushi nodded, as Payal took Dee into her arms. The sisters and niece had a good cry, while the rest of the family watched in confused in silence.

Arnav watched Khushi cry her heart out by the sleeping form of Babli, while Payal watched Babli with silent eyes. Akash was holding Payal's hands consolingly.

Nani had tears in her eyes while watching them and Mami was already weeping.

Everyone was told about what had happened, with extreme NON-detail.

Babli's father (and Khushi's brother) had been fighting a case, and the lawyer, in form of a blackmail had gotten Dee kidnapped. Muskaan, Dee's mother (and Khushi's bhabhi) had said that now the Dee was gone, they had nothing to lose, so they had gone ahead with the case. Muskaan being a reporter, had found proof against the lawyer and his clients (One of which was dead) and gotten Bhabhi too killed. Her brother, filled with the complex of being a failure, had left Khushi with Garima.

Anjali had prayed throughout the narration that the name 'Malliks' won't be brought up anywhere, and thankfully, it didn't.

Anjali realized that when the case had been fought, her father was already dead. They were already estranged from the Malliks due to which they had no inkling of the case.

The rest of the night was an emotional one.

Khushi was dead silent and was fretting about how to get in contact with her brother.

Amit Bhaiyya had gone to Lucknow to meet his father along with Akki, so she'd have to await his return!

"Khushi, you should sleep!"

"Like hell I will! It is not your niece who has returned after two years!" she spat.

"Payal told me about your brother…."

"Well, good for you!" she muttered, continuing to pace up and down.

"And she told me that-"

"I don't wanna taljk about it!"

"He said that your Bhabhi-"

"I said I don't wanna talk about!" she screamed, tears streaming down her face, as images of Muskaan being shot rang through her ears.

"Okay, okay!" Arnav said.

Khushi took a deep breath and whispered. "I'm sleeping with Dee today…"

Arnav nodded, and watched her walk out of the room.

DAY 5

Everyone was touched when they saw how Dee (I won't call her Babli anymore) would cling to either Khushi or Payal throughout the day.

Khushi and Dee sat along with Payal by the poolside at night.

Khushi's head rested on Payal's shoulder, while Dee sat leaning against both of their folded legs.

"Bui, where is Pops? And Mama?" Dee asked suddenly.

Khushi closed her eyes, to regain her composure. "Dee, Papa has gone for work…" she gulped.

"Again! Why does he leave always!" Dee pouted.

Dee sat on her knees with her hands pressed to Khushi's knees. "And Mamma?" she asked excitedly.

"W-Wo Bhabhi has…" Khushi stuttered, her eyes filling with tears.

Dee frowned. "Bui? Why are you crying?" she asked anxiously, wiping Khushi's tears.

Payal leaned forwards and stroked her hair, her cheeks wet with tears. "Dee, Mamma is…. I-I"

"Your Mamma has become a star Dee…" came a voice from behind the two of them.

The three of them turned around.

"Arnav Bhaiyya!" Dee exclaimed.

Arnav walked towards her and knelt in front of her. "Hey Dee! Your Bui here didn't tell me she was your Bui…."

"Mamma b-became a star?" Dee asked unsurely.

Arnav looked at Khushi, who was looking hurt and pained. "Yes Dee. Your Mamma became a star…."

Dee's eyes began to fill up with tears. She turned to Khushi. "Bui is Arnav Bhaiyya…?"

Khushi wiped her eyes and hugged Dee. "Yes Dee. Mamma became a star…" she whispered.

Dee's arms went around Khushi's neck, and she began to cry softly into Khushi's shoulder.

Khushi had told Dee about dead people becoming stars when their neighbour's father-in-law had died.

"And I don't think I'm your Bhaiyya anymore right?" Arnav asked, trying to lighten the atmosphere.

Dee wiped her tears and peeked at Arnav from under her wet lashes.

Khushi looked up at him, and realized what he was doing. "Yes Dee. He'll be your 'Phuhpha' " Khushi giggled.

Dee frowned. "Phupha? Why?"

"Because I am your Bui's husband…" Arnav said.

Khushi looked into his eyes, and looked away, tears sheening her eyes.

"Let's sleep Dee…" Khushi muttered.

"Arnav Bhaiyya, can I call you Fufu?" Dee frowned.

Arnav's eyes widened and Khushi began to giggle. "What the-! That sounds like the name of some dessert!"

"Not dessert! It sounds like the name of a dog!" Khushi giggled.

"But I don't want to call you Phupha! It makes you sound like a Grandpa…!"

"Fine. You just call me Arnav Bhaiyya like you used to…" Arnav smiled.

Dee smiled and nodded.

Khushi picked her up and Dee put her head in the crook of Khushi's neck and fell asleep.

Khushi carried her delicately and whispered a 'Thank you' to Arnav, before leaving to put Dee on her bed.

Payal watched the two of them and smiled. Maybe they were having a normal fight the other day… She told herself, but a part of her knew she was wrong.

DAY 6, DAY 7 passed.

BABLI/ DHRITI, is not going to be Dhriti Bhatia... Not that I don't like her... She was cute... But, I like HER better 😃
