A lovely emotion-filled update… can't understand Arnav, though! Common courtesy seems beyond him, even inviting Khushi out for coffee sounds more like an order than a request! Khushi's painstaking translation of 'Divine Bites' was damn hilarious! Nice to see her make him laugh after ages, and even laying down where and when they should meet. An adorable image of Khushi's innocence and compassion for all living creatures: "It will rain tonight," she was informing the duckling. "Don't get wet in the rain and catch cold. Suna aapne! There is nobody here to make kada for you." The duckling hid behind its mother, and peeked at her. "Scolding the duckling too, Khushi Kumari Gupta?"… the duckling reminded me of a shy kid peeking from behind his / her mother at people trying to befriend them! Khushi lovingly chiding it and Arnav's gentle teasing were equally endearing!
It must have taken real guts for Arnav to open up to Khushi, especially revealing his vulnerable side… this shows that he's begun to understand that honesty ad sharing are essential in a relationship, and that needing someone's support doesn't make one less of a man or show weakness! Touching to see how attuned Khushi is to Arnav's pain and sense of remorse and self-loathing… her silent support must have meant the world to him! His parents' tragic saga proves one thing: love is not enough in a relationship / marriage; trust needs to be there, too! So many lives destroyed, all because of a misunderstanding, and because Arnav's mother didn't have the courage to question his father or to wait for his answers! I do consider his parents selfish as they focused only on their lost love, without bothering about the repercussions of their hasty step on their family and innocent children.
In the dusk, the man & the girl sat on the bench in silence, arms coiled around each other… the idea that came to my mind on reading this line and particularly these words was that the young girl was emotionally stronger and more mature than the older man, and was supporting and consoling him as he tried to come to terms with his past… Like children, they ran through the cold rain… these words had an underlying sense of innocence and abandon, with the rain hopefully washing away all their hurt. Poor Arnav, his feeling of guilt for having wronged his blameless father for all that befell their family, and also disowning him in thought and deed, must be eating him alive! He looked like a small child who had lost his way. A very poignant image… and Khushi is the beacon of light guiding him along the path to redemption and love! The ending was very moving: Arnav's heart-felt apology for all the pain he had unthinkingly and often deliberately inflicted on Khushi, the ensuing panic at the thought of losing her and her reassurance brought a lump to my throat!
