Oh ok yeah i was talking about this, that they should make sure the author is ok with them discussing the forthcoming story line. Most of them don't mind but its good to just make sure.

6. Can we have a discussion about the forthcoming storyline on the current thread?
Yes, of course you can.

Thanks for the anwers
@bold: i always post a comment, say don't worry take your time okay i will stop now!

P.S. i should not say it but kya karon i'm aadat se majboor, why she asked these questions, please not get me wrong but mere dimag me aisa kabhi nahi aaya that i want to know all about these things, i just used my common sense, tumare saath kuch huwa hai kya? (every action has a reaction)

P.P.S. I have a question?
Can an author ask to the DT to remove a comment from his/her thread?
Say yes! 😃

As long as your comment is in relation to the story itself and the chapters posted, it's fine. If you're asking for an update and wondering when it will be updated, PM the author! Don't post at the thread. That's unnecessary spamming.

Thank you JOT for your prompt reply.
The things in red definitely surprised me, along with the fact that the rules for spamming are so that its easy for the DT to navigate through the thread. And then there is the video and pictures clause.
All this definitely makes me wary about commenting at all. Now I understand the abundance of silent readers here!

Also, Jot, I did see that another member (Preet kc) had a question for me.
She wanted to know why I am asking all this and how I came up with these questions.

After having been active for months, well we were just having a healthy discussion on a writers thread, much like you guys are doing here on the General complaints thread with tidbits regarding the DT's IF timings and time zones, people's compatibility with each other, etc.
And next thing we know there is a DT note about "spamming". It appalled me to see that my comments might have led to the writer's thread being locked, and so I decided to prevent that from ever happening by asking the DT for clarification here.
So in a sense I guess if these questions haven't occurred to the member in question, maybe she is one of the lucky few, who hasn't been "warned". Hope this appeases her curiosity. 😃

After reading through the last few pages, my only hope is that members aren't discouraged from commenting at all, due to the large number of rules governing comments in the FF forum.
Input is invaluable to an amateur writer like me, and while I am fine with silent readers too, I do appreciate the fact that some readers take the time out from their busy lives to leave a lengthy comment, or just a 'nice story'...or any kind of comment at all.
Because if we were writing in the asli duniya , we might not even have got that much!

This is just my observation, no offence to anyone here.

Just chipping in with my two cents here. I find it a bit weird that there are so many rules about commenting. When I first saw the rule about spamming in FF threads, it was mainly due to people talking about personal things, that are better suited for a CC, in the story thread. And calling them spamming might be the right thing to do. But telling an author it is okay that they cannot update, or telling them to get well, or asking them when we will be seeing an update of the our favorite story, in my opinion, should still be considered "legal" for a lack of better term. You have mentioned that scraps and pm's work for these sort of things. I don't know about others, but scraps are where I talk to my close friends on IF, it is private, it is something I don't want to share with all my readers. And a number of pm notifications for something that could easily be said in the story thread, also doesn't make sense to me.

Ultimately, we all come to IF to read some good stories, appreciate the authors who write them, and maybe contribute some of our stories as well. Having to think about every post I make on a story thread for the fear of getting a "warning" or god forbid lead to closing of a story thread is not only unnerving, but kind of disappointing as well. Because like Luna said, it discourages me from commenting at all.

PS: I am seriously not trying to be mean, and not that this is relevant, but it is one of the worst offenses on IF, so I am going to say that I find it a bit weird. An author who might have plagiarized 3-4 paragraphs will have to face the same repercussions(warning level raise) and a temporary closing of their thread, similarly a "spamming" of comments could lead to a warning level raise as well as the closing of thread is to me, very unfair.
