I understand what all of you are trying to say here and you're absolutely right about having the same rules for everyone.
Nonetheless, I do think Krani's questions regarding adaptations and inspiration is one that should be clarified by the DT,
NB, of course, if Gargee was doing this commercially, she would need all sorts of clearance and paperwork but she's not.
This is fan fiction where the lines are incredibly hazy. What could she have done? Emailed Anders asking if she can adapt her book and cross it over with IPK for her fan fiction on one forum!?
The reason I feel the need to say anything on this at all is that I've seen numerous instances of 'adaptation's' and 'cross-over's' here, and none of them have gotten into this kind of trouble. I see a lack of consistency here again.
I honestly don't see this as qualifying as outright plagiarism.
Lazy, the same sequence of events may be handled very differently by different writers. That is where the writers role into this comes in and we haven't really seen her do much since it's one chapter that has gone up. The scene in question appears to be a rather important one and for all we know, she may have been heading in a very different direction. Or in the same direction. I repeat, we really don't know.
I will use an example of something I wrote recently. It was a one-shot that was inspired by Rebecca-- or adapted even. I didn't think that would be an issue at all!
I think we'll all agree that she made a mistake by not crediting the original right away, but that is a different issue. Is locking her thread NOW, really the answer? Now that she HAS credited the original?
Regarding previous action, if the DT had indeed reacted the way you say it had, I think that's unfair as well. Everyone should be allowed a fair chance to defend oneself, no matter what. And the DT ought to definitely consider its own policy.
I have no idea what the incident you refer to is, Lazy, but I would DEFINITELY term that an overreaction.
Often when you write, you don't even realize that you might have used certain phrases or literary devices in the same way that a favourite author has. I will not say anything further on that particular issue since I haven't been witness to any of it.
But I think it is important for the DT to set a precedence for not just consistency but also fairness.
