The Invitation - Chapter Three

"Kripa, hurry up a bit please! I have a shift today." Sahil yelled from the door to Kripa's house. Moments later, Kripa came running through the hall putting her jacket on.
"Why do you work on a Saturday?" Kripa complained locking the door, facing him as he reached over and pushed a strand of hair away from her face, making her turn red.
"Why are you always blushing?" He asked right back. She stuck her tongue out at him and walked past him, making him laugh.
"So, where for lunch?" She asked grabbing his arm to make him a little bit more fast.
"How's the Grill sound?" Sahil suggested. Kripa nodded. The Grill was the popular fast food restaurant of the town. It served pretty much everything from burgers to Chinese food, and that too, at an affordable price.
As the two walked, Kripa rubbed her hands and smiled at Sahil once in a while.
"So, you have no other family?" Sahil asked looking at her. Kripa nodded in a 'no' in response.
"That's good, I guess. My parents relatives took advantage of their death and usurped pretty much everything. You can't trust anyone these days. Your parents never had any enemies?" He asked, zipping his sweater up as much as he could.
"I'm not sure. Like I told you before, I don't know who my father is. I know my mother was married to him and she said, he cheated on her so she left him. She was pregnant with me when she arrived in this town. They never got divorced though. She's always loved him. I can't imagine who could've been enemies with my mother. Everyone in this town loved her to bits." Kripa muttered kicking some snow to the side.
"And you never tried to find out about your father?" Sahil asked, pulling an old Nokia phone out of his pocket and inspecting it for a moment before putting it in his pocket again.
"Sahil, would you try and find the man who didn't bother finding out whether you were alive or not all these years and cheated on your mother?" Kripa questioned him throwing him a look. Sahil threw his hands up defensively and laughed.
"Hey, it was a casual question. You just came at my life there." Sahil threw, looking at her annoyed. Kripa sighed.
"I'm sorry. My father's a touchy topic." She mumbled. Sahil threw an arm around her and pulled her close, turning her red again.
"Are you ever gonna tell me you like me?" He whispered in her ear seductively causing her to look up surprised. The two just stared at each other for a moment before he burst out laughing and stepping away from her, disappointing her.
"I was just kidding." He chuckled punching her arm playfully. Kripa forced a laugh and faced forward, a tiny part of her heart breaking and crashing to the sidewalk, underneath his very feet.

As the two sat in the Grill, eating burgers, they saw Khushi and Madhu enter the place with their boyfriends. Just as the two sisters spotted Sahil, they rushed over with Rishab and Arnav strolling behind them talking quietly.
"Sahil!" Khushi exclaimed, planting herself beside him. She turned and smiled at Kripa who put her burger down and smiled back.
"How are you two?" Madhu asked both Sahil and Kripa as she sat down beside Kripa.
"We were just here, looking for a few people. Now that we've met you both, we want to invite you both to our engagement!" Khushi said happily, grabbing two cards from Arnav's hand who smiled at Kripa and Sahil. Kripa grabbed a card, surprised.
"We'd very much appreciate it if you both could make it." Arnav said running a hand through his hair. Kripa and Sahil nodded.
"Well, we better get going." Rishab said offering Sahil his hand to shake which Sahil did. As Kripa sat there watching them walk away, she pulled out her phone and quickly dropped Riddhima a text.
Gupta & Kundra getting engaged.
"Can you believe it?" Kripa said to Sahil putting her phone away. Sahil paused with the glass of coke in mid air and threw her a confused look.
"Believe what?"
"That Khushi and Madhu are getting engaged to Rishab and Arnav Kundra!" Kripa exclaimed. Sahil merely shrugged, continuing to drink his coke.
"Those two told me they were going to get engaged soon long ago. Besides, it was quite obvious. They've been dating for so long." Sahil said standing up to go pay. Kripa rolled her eyes picking up the jug of water. Just as she was pouring it into her glass, her phone beeped.
NO WAY! WHAT THE F***?
Kripa laughed and started typing.
Yup. Even invited me. You're probably going to get invited too soon.
"Ready to go?" Sahil asked Kripa who looked up from her phone and nodded, standing up. Sahil offered her his hand and she took it, gently, surprised. He rarely did that.
