A/N; I just had to write this chapter to close any loose angles. Just a brief summary of Virat's childhood up until the whole Maya business. Just phase one of their love. 😉 WOW. Can't believe it CHAPTER THIRTY! WOO!
SerendipityChapter Thirty
Virat gave his bags to the driver to place in the car whilst he pondered over his recent conversation with Viren. "Maanvi...Maanvi has become your drug. You love her." The words began to ring in his ear, non stop.
Did he love her?
He thought back to the first time he had seen her: their argument, the way she had told him that she too didn't want to marry him. He was shocked of course, after all, he had been pummelled by many marriage offers from women but Maanvi herself didn't care. He thought about how she had helped him the time he had a fever; the first time he had spent the night with her. The way she helped him, cared for him, supported him when he told her about Maya and the baby.
Why did he even tell her? He didn't have to. After all, even his own brother didn't know the full story.
"Maanvi...Maanvi has become your drug. You love her."
Viren's voice appeared again. He instantly shook his head. No, he couldn't love her. He cares about her, but love? No, he can't love her. It wasn't fair on her, she shouldn't have to go through what he went through. The day Maya left him with his dead child, he vowed that he'll never love anyone again because love was destructible.
"No." He spoke. "I'm not in love with her." He repeated the words, trying to convince himself. But...did it work?
"Rajkumar Virat?" He turned around to see Tarun at the door. "Vadhera Saab has called for you." Virat frowned, wondering what his grandfather would need him for. He nodded, sending Tarun away.
Virat made his way through to his grandfather's office, a place where he did his work. It had been many years since he had spoken properly to him. He had faint memories of him and the Earl laughing together, playing games and doing all sorts. He was always the younger one, the one who didn't need to be in Royal meetings or engagements, his parents were the ones who looked after that. As soon as Viren was old enough to understand, he too was with them to learn how to behave.
Virat remembered how Viren always had the special treatment. He was shown the correct way to behave especially since he was the older one, the future Vadhera King. His parents never had time for him, not really, he was always in the care of his grandfather and his nannies. He was always seen as the rebellious child, his behaviour getting worse when his father died. His mother completely ignored him, having to single handedly look after Chandrilasia. His grandfather too deserted him, opting to help his mother with the country.
He remembered the day his father died: it was a terminal illness they said. Something that couldn't be operable. He did something unacceptable that day. He hated his father for dying, because everyone forgot about him. No one played with the young Virat because they were either too busy or in mourning.
The only person who did, was Viren.
It was how they had gotten close. All the doubts and jealousy that Virat had towards his older brother was gone. All he needed was someone. He began to hate being Royalty, it's pressure and rules had got the better of him. And that's when he decided to leave for London. For everyone else it was a way of him to study but for Virat, it was a way of escape. He managed to convince himself that he was only Virat Vadhera, not Virat Vadhera of Chandrilasia. And that's where he immersed himself into drugs and alcohol, courtesy of Maya.
When he heard about his child, growing inside the woman he began to hate, he promised that he'll give his child as much love and attention that could give. No one would separate him from his child. No one would dare. But it happened. Nature itself took his baby away, in the blink of an eye.
The day he came home, he was completely destroyed. His eyes were dark red, his skin was blotched. He was skinny to the bone after weeks of not eating properly. His veins were dark blue, almost like it was popping out of his skin. He was extremely ill from the effects of drugs and fatigue. His brother, Viren had tried to help him but it was too late. He was long gone. Even if he managed to stay without drugs for a few hours, it was meaningless. Withdrawal symptoms was hard, almost like he was dying a thousand deaths.
His family didn't say anything. They knew, but they turned a blind eye because he didn't want them to get involved and that he wasn't the perfect Vadhera child.
He was a monster.
A drug infested, alcohol induced monster.
With the help of Viren, Virat had gotten his life back on track. He had controlled his drug addiction and his alcohol intake. But there were still some slip ups. After every argument, he would find himself smoking to oblivion or drinking to his heart's desire. It was killing him slowly, he knew that. But he couldn't stop.
Except now.
"Maanvi...Maanvi has become your drug. You love her."
He closed his eyes remembering how he had kissed Maanvi the first time. The way her body sang to him. He had wanted to kiss her back then, there was just something about her that attracted him. He wanted her so bad, but he couldn't.
It just wasn't right.
"Virat?" His grandfather's word took his out of his flashback. He looked up to see his grandfather having a slight smile.
"Dadaji? You called for me?"
He nodded, gesturing him to come in. "I never got the chance to tell you this but I'm proud of you. Everything you have done so far, even to the point of standing up to Maanvi during the conference, even I couldn't do that."
"What I did wasn't for me, it was for Maanvi." Virat replied. "She was scared, and they were putting fingers at her. What else could I do? I couldn't let them do that to her, it wasn't fair."
Vijay Singh smiled. "I'm surprised to see this change in you." It was a surprise for everyone, ever since Maanvi had come into their lives it was like Virat was starting to change for the better. What the match maker had said was right, Maanvi was lucky for them. She would be the one to bring a broken family together. "I'm proud of you." Virat looked at his granddad, with wet eyes. Those were the words that he had so long yearned to hear.
Finally.
"Dadaji..." He whispered.
"I know I don't say it much but I'm proud of you beta. I don't know how we had distanced ourself this much, and I know that whatever happened between us is my fault."
Virat placed his hand on Vijay's shoulder. "No Dadaji. Please. Whatever happened was just a thing of the moment. Yes, I admit that I didn't accept Papa's death nor everyone leaving me but it's my fault as well."
Vijay Singh smiled through his tears before pulling his grandson into a hug. "Out of my ego, I allowed our relationship to deter." He sighed. "If you can, please forgive me."
Virat pulled out of the hug. "What are you saying Dadaji? Can an elder even ask a younger for forgiveness? No, Dadaji. I want to forget everything that happened. I just want a clean slate, a new life."
Vijay Singh smiled before placing his hand forward just like in Virat's childhood. Virat laughed a little, keeping his firm hand over and they pulled into a hug again.
"Virat?" Queen Vanshika entered the room, her heart heavy as she watched the grandfather-grandson duo. She couldn't help but think about how little time she had actually spent with her son. She had always placed him in the care of others because she was too busy. She didn't realise just how bad that was until it was too late. Their relationship had become too sour. She walked towards her son and placed her hand over his head. "If you can, please forgive this mother as well."
"What are you saying, Ma?" Virat shook his head. He couldn't believe just how much his life has changed. A few weeks ago, if someone had told him that he would be talking to his mother and grandfather, he would have laughed. But now? It seems as if his deepest wishes are beginning to come true.
"I've always given Viren more importance than I've given you. Even being a mother, I did this. Even when your papa died, I completely ignored you. You were just four years old, just a child, I should have known better. I blamed you for what our family was going through but I should have blamed myself. After all, I am your mother." She cried her eyes out.
"Ma come on. Whatever happened has happened. I know that I can't get my childhood back but at least I've got my mother back. He hugged her, making up for all those moments that he had never gotten. For the first time, he felt so close to his mother, it was like his family was back.
Virat had finally gotten the only thing he ever wanted: family's love.
"Look, everyone is here!" Viren called out, smiling as he came in with Jeevika and Maanvi behind. "What is this? You three and a happy moment? And that too, without me?" He faked a cry. "Not fair!"
Vanshika laughed as she pulled Viren's ear. "Viren, you've gotten old now, so why are you crying?"
"Areh ma! Who cares if I've gotten old? I still want my mother."
Virat smiled at his brother's antics when he noticed Maanvi. He beamed a smile at her, remembering that he still needed to talk to her. He couldn't get the image of almost kissing her out of his head. "Maanvi...Maanvi has become your drug. You love her." Viren's words rang in his mind again, replaying non stop. As he gazed at her, he felt his heart began to get warm almost as if there was fireworks bursting inside.
"You know what we should do?" Viren asked. "A family photograph!" He called out to Swamini who came in instantly whilst telling Tarun to get a camera. "Let's see..."
He asked Vijay and Swamini to stand together whilst Vanshika on the other side. Virat stood besides his mother whilst he pushed Maanvi towards Virat. He held Jeevika's hand before both standing besides Swamini. Tarun flicked on the switch to the camera and told everyone to move closer to fit everyone on the screen.
"Maanvi, Madam. Please come a little closer." Tarun gestured. Maanvi looked up at Virat who had by then, placed his hands over her shoulder and pulled her in. She shivered at his touch, as if a spark of electricity was jolting through them. Viren smirked through the corner of his eyes and he glanced at Virat. He pulled his own wife closer before they all smiled, teeth out as the camera flashed.
"Let's see!" Viren jumped at the opportunity to be the first one to see the photo as everyone minus Virat and Maanvi followed. The newly weds stood still, him holding her whilst both gazing into each other's eyes. For them, it was like time had frozen still, a second feeling like a minute. Viren shushed everyone as he pointed towards the couple before taking a picture. The sudden flash of the camera light jumped them out of the gaze, they blushed, trying not to look at any of the family members.
"Such a sweet photo." Viren laughed as Virat gave his brother an angry face before he too began to chuckle.
Virat took one last look at his wife who was blushing, standing besides Jeevika. He couldn't help but think just how beautiful she looked.
"Maanvi...Maanvi has become your drug. You love her."
