"Manvi, talk to me, what happened? Please tell me everything, why aren't you talking?" Jeevika asked her at home.

"Nothing happened di. We went to a party yesterday, with Virats friends. His drink got streaked, I am guessing. He started acting up and once we came home, I got into a fight with him for taking me to such a stupid party. That's it, he was high, not in his senses, so he pushed me slightly and I slipped down, a few stairs, accidently. That's when you guys came in, you know the rest."

"You are lying, your bruises look different, these are scratches, like bite-marks"

"Di, stop, you are over-thinking. It was an accident. Virat would never hurt me that way, your devar loves me di" she said sarcastically, turning away, tears clouding up her vision.

"Then, why are you crying silly? Virat is fine now. Everything is going to be fine Mannu" she said hugging Manvi. Manvi broke down hugging Jeevika 'Nothing is fine di, nothing' she told herself.

Manvi could not sleep that night. Her thoughts were killing her. The night's incidents kept replaying in front of her eyes over and over again. Her past and present haunted her. She looked at herself in the mirror.

'Why is my life going in reverse gear? Why are all the people who love me so weak? So vulnerable? Why do I always end up taking care of them? Can't I be taken care of for a change? Is life really so hard? So painful? My whole life is going round and round as if on a loop, springing out only 'hurt and pain'. I cannot bear this anymore. I cannot. (she closed her eyes with her hands) Why should I even live? What am I living for?'

She broke down, crying her eyes out and then she heard her voice, her conscience, her soul.

"What's wrong with you Manvi??? Your life is not going to be about a guy, about love, this is stupid and lame. All this seems so perfect in books and movies, but it does not exist in real life."

So true, she thought, 'My life is not going to be the sum total of the bad experiences that happened to me.' 'He said he loves me. Riiight? 'Love' is a verb Manvi, a person cannot do an act of hatred and claim to be 'in love'. That is a load of crap. Never let a dysfunctional person into your life. He was never able control his own life and now he has shattered yours. The sooner you realize that your super-hero is not coming to rescue you from your heart-ache, the sooner you can rescue yourself out of this misery. Nobody is coming to fix you Manvi!!!' 'STOP THROWING YOURSELF A PITY PARTY. GET UP. PUT EVERYTHING BEHIND. Past is over, DO NOT open the door for it to come-in and kidnap your present and future from you.'

'Yes, (she stood straight with her head held high) Hell with love !! I need none of that. I am only going to focus on myself. My career, my goal, my promise to my mother, that, I will make myself useful to the world, to people who are suffering like she suffered.' 'My life is going to be the sum-total of things that I choose to do with the resources I have with me. I am NOT going to be this poor little hapless girl but a powerful girl, a girl on fire.' 'Nothing can put me off. Not a guy of all things.'

Dr. Shepard was checking on Virat the next morning. He opened his eyes and they informed him about where he was. Virat did not remember much from last night. Dr. Shepard informed him of the things he knew.

"Where is Manvi??" Virat asked.

"I haven't seen her from yesterday night. She probably called in sick as she had some bruises on her body yesterday. She said she fell off the stairs" Dr. Shepard informed him, eyeing him very sharply.

"What? Can I please speak to her?" Virat asked sheepishly.

"I will let her know" Dr. Shepard told him and left.

Virat dozed off into sleep again.

It was past midnight, Viren was sitting by Virat's side all day. Virat woke up with a loud scream "Manvi!" he yelled covered in sweat. Only this time, what he saw was not a nightmare but the happenings of the previous night.

"No, this is not real, it can't be. No!! Ohh god!!!! Ohh god!!! what have I done!!!!!" he was muttering continuously.

Viren rushed to his side "Virat! relax, calm down. You are in a hospital."

"Bhai! Where is Manvi, Is she ok? " asked Virat getting off the bed and pulling all the IV tubes stuck to him hurriedly.

"Virat, easy, you are still recovering, Manvi is doing fine. Please relax." Viren tried to pacify him.

Virat only heard 'Manvi is fine.' He collapsed with a thump on the bed, sitting silently holding his head, 'How can she be fine? I scarred her forever.' He looked at his hands in repulsion until he couldn't look at them anymore.

He closed his eyes as tears streamed out, he could not control himself; he buried his face in his hands. The entire incident reeled before his eyes, his brain was recovering the whole incident in all its grotesque detail, in slow motion.

He moved his hands over his ears, "Stop Virat! Please S-T-O-P!! Please! he heard her voice reverberate in his ears. He could not hear it anymore.

Her eyes, her beautiful dove shaped eyes, flashed in front of him, pleading him, filled upto the rim, with tears. "How can you do this to me?" they questioned him, pricking deep within him.

His heart was bleeding in pain; he could not hold all these excruciating images. He wanted it to stop. His whole body was shaking, he wanted to hurt himself, kill himself, atleast the excruciating pain would stop. He looked around like a crazy person.

"Ohh god" he kept screamed repeatedly, banging his head with his hands. "What have I done?

Viren didn't know how to control him. He hugged him trying to soothe him down, in vain.

"Bhai, you have no idea of what happened." Virat sobbed uncontrollably.

"Jiju, Is everything ok?" he heard her. "Manvi?" He looked at her, in a white coat with a stethescope, along with a nurse by her side. 'Is this all just a nightmare?' he wondered. He immediately looked away, reality hitting him; he wanted to disappear from there.

"Manvi, Virat is agitated; I don't know what's wrong" Viren said moving away as Manvi went near Virat to check up on him.

Manvi looked at him, his eyes were shut tight, his fists clenched, he was soaked in sweat and shaking like a spring. She took in a deep breath and checked his pulse which was racing wildly.

"Relax Virat!" she said calmly.

"I am giving you some sedatives, you will feel drowsy" she said, signaling the nurse to pass on the needle.

He felt a little calm with her there "Manvi? You are ok?" he asked unable to read her expressions, he raised his hand to touch her but hesistantly pulled it back.

"I am fine" she said non-chalantly, inserting the needle. "You will feel better" she said, hooking back all the tubes he pulled out. He was calming down, maybe it was the sedatives or maybe the fact that Manvi was standing by him. 'She is fine' he though slipping back into a deep slumber. He kept whispering slowly "I am sorry baby, I am sorry, so so sorry." Manvi stormed out of there.
