Chapter 6
"She's not going anywhere! She'll stay here itself," Dadi said by brushing the tears from Riya's face.
"Don't cry beti, I'm here for you. Nothing will happen to you!" Dadi was consoling Riya.
"But why?" everyone asked.
"Dadi she lied and used your love as a weakness!" Shaina said and looked with angry eyes at Riya.
"Yes, she's nothing but a gold digger and liar," Arjun said offensively at Riya.
Riya tried to get away from Dadi, but Dadi held onto strongly at Riya, and made Riya look at her by putting a hand under her chin, "Trust me beti!"
"Let me go Dadi, no one wants me to stay here. They all hate me!" Riya said in between sobs.
"No you wont go away from here," Dadi said at Riya, and then turned towards the whole family looking at her incredulously and said, "She never lied to anyone. It was our mistake that we thought her to be Rathore's fiance. And then when you told her about my heart problem, she didn't have the courage to tell the truth at the hospital. But as soon as she entered this house and was overwhelmed with our love, she told me the truth that night itself when I was massaging her head. She told me that she never was Rathore's fiance, that the real fiance was a model, and that she was out for a modeling assignment in Italy, that she didn't know anything else about her! She told me that she'd tell everyone the truth about her in the morning, but I stopped her!"
"Please Dadi don't believe her! She tried to charm me yesterday, you saw it in the camera! She's only taking advantage of your generosity!" Arjun persisted and looked contemptuously at Riya.
"Let me finish Arjun!" Dadi said angrily at Arjun, and then continued, "You all lied to me about Rathore's condition, I knew from the start that he was in coma, I had heard you people talking. I knew that having Riya here and thinking that she was Rathore's fiance and taking care of her, was helping you people deal with Rathore's state. Hence I stopped her from saying the truth, and asked her to promise me that she'd keep quiet about this!" she looked at Riya's swollen eyes and said, "I have looked into her eyes, she's a genuine person. And it's I who took advantage of her weakness. She never even remembered her parents, she's all alone, I used our love as emotional blackmail for her to stay. She's not a liar, nor a gold digger! As for her using her charms on you," she said looking at Arjun, "both of us know it's not true!"
"You are making a very big mistake by trusting her," Arjun said softly yet he was very angry at this turn of events. He looked at Riya, and wondered what magic she could have weaved on his family.
"Nope I'm not. I've learnt to recognize people with experience dear. She has a golden heart. She won't leave from here," Dadi said to everyone.
"Fine if she stays, then I'm leaving this house. I won't stay with such a cheap person," Arjun said and went away in his room.
Riya felt so much guilt at this, she turned to look at everyone and said, "I'm really sorry. I never meant to hurt anyone, yet I turned selfish when you people gave me so much love," turned towards Shaina, "Rathore always was yours, I never ever thought of coming between you two," and finally looked at Dadi and said, "Let me go, I'll go convince Arjun to stay, please let me go!" and she rushed from there crying not letting anyone say anything.
She followed Arjun till his room, and knocked and entered inside without waiting for his answer. As she feared Arjun had taken his bags out, and were putting his clothes in it. He looked absolutely thunderous, Riya felt a bit scared seeing him like that.
When he heard the knock and someone entered the room, Arjun immediately turned to shout to leave him alone. However seeing Riya made him even angrier, today for the first time his Dadi was taking a stranger's part. Right now he hated Riya more than anything else.
"It would be better for you to get out of my sight! Otherwise I wont be responsible for what I may do to you!" Arjun said menacingly.
"Please listen to me at least once before going away?"Riya tried though she was afraid of Arjun.
Arjun strode threateningly towards her, and pinned her to the wall, "What else you have to say? My family is taking your part! And now you have the courage to come try to lie to me again!"
"You are hurting me," Riya said.
"And what about the hurt you have given me?" Arjun said furiously.
"Why is Dadi taking your part?" Arjun asked crossly and shook her violently.
Riya had tears in her eyes, she was really sorry that she had made a whole family fight, and but she wont lie to anyone anymore, "Because I love Rathore, I have loved him since the first time I met him!" she shouted and started crying.
Arjun was shocked on hearing this, but he didn't stop her from continuing. Riya gradually in between sobs told him about her feelings, the day Rathore got shot, the pain of not seeing Rathore, and finally the lie to the nurse just to be able to see Rathore, and then the whole misunderstanding of his family.
"I tried to tell the truth, but Dadi made me promised not," Riya finally ended.
"Believe me, the only thing I wanted was love, I don't even remember my parents. I never came here for money," she said and finally looked into his eyes.
For the first time, Arjun really looked deeply in her eyes, and finally he could see the truth in them, and the sincerity of everything she was saying. He slowly released her, and Riya took this opportunity to run away from his room with a parting shot, "I'll go take my things, I'm gonna leave from here. But please don't leave your family because of me!"
Arjun finally felt guilty at the way he had behaved. He sat on his bed and thought for a long time. He didn't know why, but he would have preferred that Riya was a gold digger than her confession that she loved his brother. Finally he got out of his thoughts, and went outside. When he reached outside, he was just in time to see Riya asking everyone sorry and marching towards the main door to go away.
He went towards her, snatched her suitcases from her hand, and said, "You wont go anywhere! You'll stay here itself! And its not debatable," he said and took her suitcases back in her room.
Everyone was happy that Arjun had stopped Riya, and Dadi was even happier. Everyone were hugging Riya, even Shaina came towards her and said, "Let bygones be!"
Riya gave Shaina a big hug and again asked sorry.
They were all busy talking when suddenly Mr Rawte's phone started ringing. He answered the call, and as he talked he looked pleased. He cut the call and informed everyone about Rathore's getting out of coma. They all rushed to the hospital and all started to hug and cry seeing Rathore out of danger. Even Shaina was so happy, and she rushed to take Rathore in her arms. However when she tried to hug him, Rathore pushed her away and looked at her as if he didn't know who she was.
"Sammy its me? Your Shainy?!" she said.
But unfortunately for her, Rathore didn't remember her at all. He didn't even remember Riya at all. Arjun went to see the doctors and finally after some examinations, the doctors came outside and informed the whole family that Rathore had forgotten everything which happened these last two years. He had partial amnesia, he apparently had a blood clot in his head. It was not dangerous as long as nobody forced him to remember anything.
"Will he ever remember these recent years? Will he ever remember me?
Shaina asked completely defeated now.
Riya, Mrs Rawte, Trishna and Dadi went to give her a big hug, reassuring her that everything will be ok, and that they are here with her.
"In such cases, he may remember or maybe he'll never remember! I wont give you any false hopes!" the doctor said sadly.
