Chapter 41 ' White Tulips
The white tulips arrived at eleven in the morning and Arnav was ready, having woken up early and showered. He placed them on the table and sat down to catch up on work while she was still sleeping. Khushi opened her eyes and yawned out loud, her whole body was hurting; he had apologized enough to last a year, with his words and actions. Her body now screaming with the after math of their passionate decadence and she found the simple task of getting out of bed difficult.
Scanning the room to locate the person responsible for her plight her eyes fell on the tulips. How many ways was he going to apologize? It was not roses but white tulips seeking her forgiveness for unintentionally hurting her. They had to learn to communicate better; all matters of importance were left incomplete with them turning to the bed to express themselves. This was very good for them but still left gaping holes in their relationship. He always was clear that he rather talk his way than talk her way as they did land up arguing if her method was applied.
Sitting up she caught him looking at her, holding her gaze he asked "do you want a tablet for your body ache?"
"I am hungry Arnav'.will take one after I have eaten'..please order for something'order lots of food." Wanting to get out of bed to use the bathroom she realized she was naked and got under the duvet again.
He smiled at her coyness, there was not a mole or scar he did not know on her body and her she was trying to cover herself up in front of him, it never ceased to amuse him her inability to be comfortable with her body around him.
"Khushi, I have seen you naked countless times and you still feel the need to cover up, sweetheart you have to get over your shyness at least now" he smirked at her irritated expression.
"Arnav'that is the most illogical thing I have ever heard you say. I know you have seen me naked but, what sense does it make to prance around undressed just because I have done it before" she remarked irritated at his suggestion.
"Sure, that is valid but you are hardly going to prance around Khushi, just get off the bed and walk to the bathroom, a matter of five steps, what is the big deal?" shrugging his shoulders.
"Oye Raizada! Don't use the word deal for everything. I am to decide what I am comfortable with or not; you dear husband cannot decide or tell me what is acceptable or what is not" her highness ordered.
"Easy tigress; you got over your body ache rather quickly I must say, want me to help you, so you have to take the offered tablet?" he got off the chair to carry out his words.
"Stay right there and give me the bathrobe that you have strategically placed near that chair of yours" finger pointing at him in warning.
"It's a bit heavy to throw, may hurt you; shall I come and give it you there?" he said picking up the robe and balling it.
"No'.stay right there'Arnav I want to go shopping today and you are going to take me. Please order breakfast, I will shower and come by the time it gets delivered to our room" she requested and he walked up to her and handed over the robe to watch her put it on.
"I thought of going out for brunch sweetheart, do you want to cancel that?" smiling at his wife, who did not note, that she was giving him the view he wanted, without realizing while she was pulling on the robe.
"No'we can do brunch'please order a juice and croissant'I am very hungry. I promise I will do justice to brunch too" she threw back before closing the bathroom door.
"I am sure you will, now get ready fast and I will finish my work by then" he smiled sitting down to check something on his laptop.
***********************
Suraj was staying at the same hotel as Khushi and Arnav; hoping to catch a glimpse of her when she stepped out. They did not get out of the room till early afternoon, he nearly missed them but before he could reach to where they were standing, he saw her walk away, pulling Arnav along. He stopped in his tracks, she may not like being disturbed and there was Arnav with her and he did not want to be pleasant with him, even for her sake.
He was there again, that man who without his knowledge was the cause for all the distress she experienced last night. If it was only her, she would not have bothered much but it had affected Arnav deeply and that she could not take. It was apparent he was following them and knew not the reason for him to stay in the same hotel as them or for that matter in London. He did not seem to be here on business if he did, he would not spring up wherever Arnav and she were; which by any stretch of imagination was not the business hub of the city. She was beginning to get irritated with his presence, at parties, events and now here. Not an ingrate by nature, she still did not like this unnecessary intrusion on their privacy. Her husband did not like that man, which in turn had an adverse effect on their life. She wanted to get away as soon as possible and prayed Arnav had not seen him this time, else his mood would sour beyond repair. Determined to spend the day as pleasantly as possible she dragged Arnav to the waiting cab.
She did not give him an opportunity to react and ensured he got into the cab immediately after her. Praying that they not be followed by Suraj she asked "where are we going for brunch? I want to have Italian so let's go someplace where we get the best vegetarian Italian food."
"We are going to have Italian and then we can go shopping" he answered, drawing her close to him.
Arnav sensed a change in Khushi from the time they stepped out of the elevator till they stepped into the taxi. He did scan the hotel lobby to see if she had spotted someone she knew and did not want to stop to exchange pleasantries; he did not see anyone familiar. Glad to be away from any tensions that may crop up by bumping into that idiot. She was talking about buying something and he had to pay attention else he would pay for a lot more than the shopping.
They had finished a sumptuous brunch and the pleased look on his gluttonous wife's face confirmed that she had kept to her promise of doing justice to the food they ate. She was looking at him menacingly now and he had to ask "what?"
"Arnav, I know where you are looking'.the glares shield your eyes from the sun but can't hide the fact you are ogling at my breasts" she said in her admonishing tone.
"I am your husband sweetheart, ogling is what taporis do, I on the other hand am admiring the size, shape and fullness" he presented his thoughts in a business-like manner
"Yuck'Arnav'.you are disgusting'.stop talking dirty and lets go now" she screeched, making a face at him.
"What now? Am I not allowed to admire my wife and when did praising beauty become disgusting?" Arnav asked, the voice belying the look in his eyes.
"You were admiring and praising me? Really?" she asked voice incredulous at his reasoning.
"Yes, I was admiring and indeed praising you" he confirmed without a trace of humor in his voice.
"In that case, you have to be rewarded for making me feel special, you agree?" Khushi pondered out aloud, watching his face to see the expressions change.
"A reward'''.let me know what you are going to offer; I in turn will let you know if the reward interests me. Otherwise I am happy admiring my wife" a faint smile on his lips, not taking the bait his wife threw at him.
She stood up and pushed her chair and pulled him out of his and pressed herself into his arms, raked her fingers into his hair and urged his mouth down on hers. Her tongue thrust between his lips and they kissed each other hungrily, Arnav's hands gliding down her back, pulling her hips into his as their tongues dueled until they were left breathless, she pulled away.
He groaned "if that's the way I'm rewarded each time I admire and praise you, I may do that more often." Pulling her closer, he lowered his lips to hers again to take another reward.
"You don't deserve any reward, not let me go'we have to go shopping" she tried unsuccessfully to push him off of her.
"You don't need anything Khushi, why do we need to roam around a store for no reason? It makes more sense to spend our time in a rewarding manner" he said eyes on her lips now.
"I want to pick up something I saw the other day for Indira Bhabhi" she said pulling him to hail a taxi to head to shopping.
Boy, did she shop; Arnav was left with an empty wallet, a maxed out credit card and hand full of shopping bags. He asked her to go ahead as he would get the bags sent to the room. Heading towards the elevator she stopped in her tracks when she caught Suraj's image on a reflective surface and drew an angry breath. She would not have him come up to her and talk, not a word. She punched the elevator button and waited impatiently for the door to open and thankful it did before it was too late. Getting in quickly she pressed the button for her floor and looked at everything but outside the elevator, not wanting to see him even.
Suraj had not noticed her come in to the hotel and realized he missed her when he saw Arnav walk behind a bell boy with her shopping. Arnav and Suraj looked at each other and exchanging pleasantries could not be avoided. Suraj walked towards Arnav and held out his hand "What a pleasant surprise? Of all the places to bump into you here" he said as warmly as he could manage.
"Hello Suraj, yes imagine you here; have you come here on some business?" hoping his voice did not show the irritation it felt.
"Yes, I am here to discuss a new business and have been here for the last 2 days. Holidaying, are you?" Suraj asked just as casually, the man did not let out, the fact he knew their plans to their hotel room number.
"Business cum pleasure actually, I had to attend to some urgent work here and asked my wife to join me. She is making me work harder to support her shopping" he said pointing at the bags, with easy charm.
Suraj managed a smile, "I am sure you are; are you here for a few more days? Please join me for dinner tonight" he wanted to spend at least an evening with her, he couldn't care if Arnav was there too.
Arnav shook his head in the negative "We would not be able to dine with you, our flight is scheduled to leave tonight and my wife is eager to get back home. Thank you for the invite Suraj, but you have to excuse us."
"Oh, I understand may be another time back in Delhi" he replied as coolly as he could manage.
"That would be wonderful, you will have to excuse me now; I am sure my wife will throw a hissing fit if I don't go back to the room. She has not been taking it lightly, this business trip" he offered his hand this time and watched Suraj shake it firmly.
"Good bye then, see you again in Delhi" eyes as firm as his handshake.
"Sure, good bye" Arnav eyes mirrored his steeliness.
The men went in opposite directions after they pulled the hands apart and both were thinking of the same woman, Khushi. Suraj knew all along that Arnav was referring to her as my wife to clearly state ownership. He was being polite all the while fully aware of their plans and schedule. He gave one last attempt to meet her hoping to speak to her. He was not surprised Arnav turned down his offer for dinner their flight was scheduled to depart at eight in the evening and they would be checking out of the hotel shortly. He would get to meet and speak to her extensively in Delhi as he had cleared out the land for sale for the orphanage.
Arnav understood Suraj well; he loved Khushi and was helpless at the hands of that emotion. A man desperate to catch a glimpse of the only person he loved completely. He hated him for that but still understood, while Suraj's was one sided; he loved Khushi far more deeply and passionately because Khushi reciprocated his love. Contrary to Suraj's conclusion, Arnav did not refer to Khushi as his wife to show possessiveness, he used the term to keep her close to his heart at all times. The difference between 'Khushi my wife' as supposed to 'my wife Khushi' was clear in his mind. The first reference always kept her close his heart. His heart whispered Khushi while his mouth spoke 'my wife' aloud, each time he spoke off her.
