Chapter – 2
1 Month Later – Delhi:
"It was raining heavily on that day as well".
"Did you say something Geet?",Meera asked, giving her a cup of hot tea.
"Nothing.",Geet said quietly and went back to gazing outside and seeing the rain, lost in her memories.
~Flashback~
It was raining heavily in Shimla
"Arre Geet, kya kar rahi ho? It's raining heavily. You'll catch a cold honey. Come, sit in the car."
"No way Dev!This is awesome. I love dancing in the rain and anyway ,it's not like I get to do this every day, thanks to you!",Geet said, sticking her tongue out.
Dev laughed and shook his head and said, "Although you're an adult you still behave like a little kid whenever it rains or snows."
"You really can't blame me for that now, can you?",Geet said while pulling him out of the car.
"Geet, what are you doing"?,Dev asked, trying to get back into the car while pulling her along with him.
"Oh come on Dev! This is fun!",she said, giggling and dancing around him.
The way she was laughing and enjoying herself was pretty infectious and even Dev couldn't help himself but give into the temptation of having some fun and dancing along with her.
~End of Flashback~
A tear rolled down Geet's pink cheek.
Meera sighed feeling helpless at not being able to do anything to bring her best friend out of her sorrow but she never stopped trying. "Geet, it's been a month now since your divorce. I know it's easier said than done but you have to get over this. You have to move on and make a fresh start.", she said softly.
"I know Meera, but it's so hard to actually digest the fact that we aren't together anymore.", Geet said. "I loved him so much and maybe I still do."
"Oh come on Geet! That jerk cheated on you and he actually had the gall to say that he might have just been attracted to you and that he never really loved you. And you still claim to love him!",Meera snapped angrily.
"I know Meera. I know that what he did to me is unforgivable but these emotions aren't something that I can switch off whenever I want to. How I wish I had a switch to turn off these feelings and emotions", Geet said choking on her sobs and rolling herself into a ball on the couch.
Meera felt so sorry for her. She just didn't know what to do or say to her. All she could do was give her a tight hug as if to say that she still had her to lean onto.
After a few minutes of crying, Geet felt better. She wiped her tears stubbornly. She didn't wish to think of the miserable mess her life had become due to Dev. She mentally promised herself that she would move on and would even start from scratch if she had to.
"Are you feeling better now?", Meera asked her, her voice full of concern for her best friend.
"I am fine now Meera. And you're right. I have to move on and I think getting a job should be just the perfect step in order to make that fresh start.", Geet said determinedly.
"And you could be taking a step towards your goal sooner than you think.", Meera quipped happily.
Geet looked at her in confusion.
"Remember, you have an interview today and you'll have to be there within the next two hours so you better hurry up, wash your face, get dressed and get your lazy butt moving". Meera said literally pushing Geet into the washroom.
"Oh teri! I forgot that I had an interview today", Geet said hitting the side of her head lightly and locking the door of the washroom.
"How would you remember when your too busy playing the role of tragedy queen – Meena Kumari the whole day?",Meera teased.
"Meera!", Geet whined while coming outside after changing.
"Ok,ok. Enough of all this. You better get going. You don't want to be late for your interview", said Meera.
"Ok meri maa! Wish me luck", Geet said while making her way towards the door.
"All the best!", Meera wished while waving at her.
~*~
Geet caught a taxi and was on her way to the office for her interview. They had stopped at a signal. Suddenly she heard a lot of noise and looked to her right. She noticed that a huge crowd had gathered around and were muttering away looking at someone with pity.
"Ek minute rukiye bhaiyya.", Geet said and got out of the car, making her way towards the crowd. She saw that a lady in her late sixties had fainted. The lady looked very elegant and had aged gracefully. Going by what she was wearing, it looked like she belonged to a rich family.
Geet was confused as to what she should do. She had an interview to attend in an hour's time but she also felt that she just couldn't leave the lady there in the middle of the road, and going by the look of the situation, it was pretty clear that no one from the crowd was going to help her.
"Oh chuck the interview. I can't just leave the poor old woman here in this state", she thought to herself.
She quickly called the driver of the taxi she was going in, and got him to help her in lifting the old lady. They quickly drove off to the nearest hospital.
