Why would such a man allow a stranger into his house for a week when he has two daughters around? Don't remember but I am sure he had not met Arnav before this visit? Intrigued with the possibility that they may have met earlier.

Kashi has been ostracized by her father now. I am sure this brave girl is up to the challenge.

He knows that kashi would never leave the house unless he kicked her out.

It is just a thought because otherwise it seems too out of character.

Chapter 49: Omniscient

I have lost count of how many memories I hold…

How many ghosts linger in and around me…

When it was that both the living and the dead started breathing life into the teak and bricks that made up my limbs… or when their burdens became mine… or when I became theirs…

I watched him now… I watched him watching them without their knowing.

His eyes were moist, but theirs remained dry. They were strong in spirit, the both of them…

Too strong, maybe… it cut him up inside everytime he looked at them…

They survived all that came their way… their head always held high…

How he wished the Gods would show some mercy and ease the burden of their fate…

His days were numbered, he knew, age and hopelessness were catching up to him… and he considered his daughters his greatest blessing and curse… their beauty and their fate were their curses…

Many consider me to be their curse too… and yet they were loyal to me…

They were strong, the both of them…

I wish I could ease his pain… it was starting to poison my veins…

He knew that she understood why he asked her to leave…

They knew each other too well to misread such motives…

His gamble, though, was greater than hers…

The man loved her, he knew… It couldn't have been any other way… the man did not after all stumble onto my doorsteps merely by chance…

I called to him and he came… at least I would like to think that is what occurred…

I am willing to concede that maybe the man's destiny had a role to play as well…

The man did not love easily, he knew… but there was love in him now…

Kashi, he was less sure about…

His younger daughter valued so many things… loyalty, dignity, self-respect…

Her love, though, was all spent on her family… Love came with great cost… both his girls had known too much loss to not know that… but while the older one seemed to have an infinite capacity to love, the younger one was… he knew not if she would let herself love anyone else as much as she loved those she already loved… whether she would ever allow herself to be so vulnerable…

And so, he had forced her hand…

It was a gamble…

He had to hope that for once in her life, his younger daughter would let go of her misguided loyalty and reach for her own hopes and dreams…

And not cling onto what he thought remained here within me…

As omniscient as I would like to think I am, my consciousness is only as vast as theirs…

I cannot predict the future…

I can only show them the past…

And hope that they will not repeat the same mistakes…
