At first,, I was worried,,
I was thinking that this story has completely gone off-track from the crime genre
that was originally intended for it..

.Chapter(9)Nine.

"Arjun! Stop it!" Preeti yelled.

Arjun, showing no sign of heeding her, turned his glare onto her. "Stop it?" he asked incredulously. "You feel sorry for this a**? You know what? Fine." He said dropping Kunal. "Why do I even bother with you." He sneered at her angrily.

"Arjun. What the hell is going on?" Ranveer asked.

"Ask her." Arjun said, glaring at Preeti briefly, then storming away.

Anjali looked at Preeti reassuringly. "Ignore this sleaze Preeti." She said disdainfully, glaring at Kunal.

Kunal glanced sharply at her. "Stay out of this Anjali, or else..."

"Or else what?" She challenged.

He made a move in her direction, only to be stopped by Ranveer who stepped in the way. "Don't even think about it." he warned menacingly.

Kunal opened his mouth to reply, but thought better of it and stepped back. With one final glare at Preeti, he stalked off.

"Aw, Pree." Anjali sighed, when she saw that Preeti was on the brink of tears. "Don't let that dog get to you."

Ranveer looked at Preeti sympathetically, before turning to Anjali. "I'll go find Arjun, then we can leave."

Sameer downed another shot angrily. He had refrained from leaving the bar since he witnessed Anjali and Ranveer's dance.

"Tsk, tsk, tsk. Poor Sam." Sweety said sidling up to him.

He looked at her in disgust, before turning away. "What do you want?"

"Cheer up Devdas." she said smirking. "Anjali isn't married yet. You still have a chance. I can help you, if you'd like."

Sameer looked at her suspiciously. "What's in it for you?"

"Can't friends help each other?"

"We aren't friends." he said bluntly.

"Do you want my help or not?"

Sameer looked at Anjali once more. "What's the plan?"

"I'm fine." Preeti insisted to Anjali.

"You don't look fine. You look like a wreck."

"Gee, thanks." Preeti drawled. "But I am okay."

"You don't have to lie to me Preeti. I know it must have hurt seeing him again..." She said.

"Are you gonna give me the whole 'there's plenty more fish in the sea' speech?" Preeti asked with a smile.

"Do you want to hear it again?"

"Not really. With your lectures, I'm sure even comatose patients might have gotten up to run away. I feel sorry for Ranveer already."

Anjali swatted her arm playfully. "Very funny. But seriously, you can do so much better. I've already got someone in mind!" she grinned.

"Don't you even say the name." Preeti warned already reading her mind.

"Why not? I think you and Arjun would look so cute together. Obviously, there's something there already, since he seems so protective of you..." she said thoughtfully.

"La la la ... I can't hear you!"

Arjun angrily kicked at the pavement. "Shit!" he cried when he stubbed his toe. "Stupid pavement."

"Calling the pavement stupid, won't make you any smarter." Ranveer smirked.

Arjun glared at him. "Good one Johnny Lever. What are you doing out here? You left Anj and Preeti with that freak show inside?"

"Nah. He got scared and left." Ranveer said leaning against the wall beside him.

After a brief pause, Ranveer started whistling 'Tujhe Dekha Toh Yeh Jaana Sanam'. Arjun gaped at him. Unable to come up with a proper response all he said was "Shut up." causing Ranveer's grin to widen.

"I didn't say anything."

"You didn't have to. That stupid smile on your face says it all. Which I'm still freaked out by. Who knew you could smile?" Arjun said.

"Stop trying to change the subject."

"Which would be?"

"Has 'The great' Arjun Khurana finally met his match?"

Arjun snorted. "The girl who can tie Arjun Khurana down isn't on this planet." He turned to look at Ranveer seriously. "It's not like it would've worked out anyway. We're here on an assignment. In some weeks, we'll be gone. Leaving both Anjali and Preeti hating us."

Both just stood in silence letting those words sink in. Ranveer hadn't realized when they got so side-tracked from the mission. Time was running out and they had made zero progress. Arjun was right. Anjali was going to hate him when all of this was over. So why bother? Slipping back into officer mode, he spoke, bringing Arjun out of his thoughts. "Do you think Sameer is involved?"

Arjun opened his mouth to give some snarky retort about Ranveer's jealousy, but stopped abruptly when he saw Ranveer's serious expression. "Raj's best friend. Works with him. It'd be weird if he wasn't."

"Find out where he lives. We've got some breaking and entering to do."

"Karan, tumhara Arjun kahan hai?" Preeti asked with a grin.

"Glad to see you're feeling better Preeti." Ranveer replied, dryly. "He's outside waiting for us. Where's Anjali?"

"Some idiot spilled his drink on her, she went to clean it up."

"I'll go get her, you wait with Arjun outside." Ranveer said walking away from her.

Sameer and Sweety watched from the sidelines. "They're leaving!" Sameer hissed at her. "Now what?"

"Christ. Calm yourself Sam." She rolled her eyes. "You know what to do." With that said, she flipped her hair over her shoulder and started off in Ranveer's direction.

---

Preeti approached Arjun cautiously. She didn't know if he had calmed down yet, and she wasn't about to say or do anything that may set him off again. 'God. He's like the freaking hulk.' she thought. Refusing to be the first to speak, she just stood beside him.

Arjun glanced sideways at her, quickly scanning her face for any signs of distress. Satisfied when he found none, he turned to stare straight ahead, also refusing to talk.

Irritated with his silence, Preeti turned to him. "What is your problem?!"

"I don't have any problem." Arjun replied calmly, still not looking at her. That only seemed to frustrate her more.

Standing in front of him she fought to find words. "You...You...UGHHH!"

Arjun inwardly grinned, but kept his expression completely neutral, knowing it would irritate her more.

Sameer noticed Anjali saying goodbye to Meena, and rushed to her. Grabbing her arm just before she walked off, he smiled at her. "You weren't leaving now were you?"

She gave him an apologetic look. "Actually, we were."

"Not before you have a drink with me." He said. "Non-alcoholic, I know." He added, when she opened her mouth to protest.

"I shouldn't keep everyone else waiting..." she said.

"Trust me, they won't mind. Preeti was with some of her friends and your fiance is with Sweety." he said slyly.

"With Sweety?"

He pointed over at the pair near the dance floor. "See for yourself."

She looked to where he was pointing and frowned when she saw Ranveer holding Sweety's arm. Letting the jealousy get the better of her, she looked at Sameer. "I guess one drink wouldn't hurt."

Ranveer grasped Sweety's arm, holding her upright to keep her from falling on him. "Of all the people in here, why the hell does she keep finding me?" he grumbled irritably.

"How about that dance now Ranveer?" Sweety said batting her eyelashes.

Ranveer ignored her and dodged her attempts to put her arms around him. Finally losing his patience, he leaned closer to her. "I don't know if you're deaf, or you really are that stupid." he snarled. "You aren't fooling me with your drunk act. If this is some pathetic attempt to get to Anjali, I'd suggest you stop. Now."

Sweety gaped at him in shock. Managing to speak, she threw a nasty glare at him. "Your darling Anjali, who you seem to be so worried about, is busy having a good time with Sam." she said gesturing over to them at the bar. "So if I were you, I'd go over there and see what's going on. Before your fiancee becomes your ex-fiancee."

Ranveer glared at Sameer, who was looking at Anjali intently as she laughed.

"You're a jerk." Preeti said to Arjun.

"I believe the phrase you're looking for is 'thank you Arjun.'" he said.

"For what? Creating a scene?!" she snapped.

Arjun turned to her angrily. "For saving your a**, not once, but twice."

"I didn't asked to be saved from Kunal." she retorted.

"OHHH! WOW. Kunal?" he feigned enthusiasm. "Forgive me. Next time I won't interfere." he said coldly, going back to looking straight ahead.

Preeti sighed running her hand through her hair. She just wanted to go home, cry for an hour then go to sleep. Where the hell is Anjali and Ranveer?

Anjali felt like the room was spinning. She took another sip of the drink Sameer had handed her, to find it empty.

Sameer smirked noticing the state Anjali was in. "Here Anj, I'll get you another." This time he had the bartender make it stronger, since the effect was too slow, and he wanted to get her out of there before Ranveer had a chance to find them.

"Maybe I should go..." Anjali slurred. "I'm not feeling so good." She got up to leave only to end up stumbling. Sameer reached out to steady her. "Oops." she giggled.

Sameer's grinned widened. "Maybe you should sit down..." he said. Just then, Ranveer appeared, frowning at the sight of a giggling Anjali. "Ranveer's here!" She yelled. "I missed you!"

"What happened?" he demanded.

'Stupid Sweety had just one job' Sameer thought angrily. "We accidentally mixed up drink glasses." He lied easily. "She doesn't drink, so maybe that's why it affected her so much."

Ranveer gritted his teeth trying to avoid throwing a punch at Sameer. 'If it wasn't for this stupid mission... ' He ran a hand over his face. "Ok." he ground out. He turned to get Anjali, only to see that she wasn't there. "What th-, Where did she go?"

Arjun drummed his fingers on the steering wheel. Ranveer sent him a text telling him to take Preeti home, and he and Anjali would be a bit later. 'Deny it now Ranveer.' he thought smugly. This girl had to be some kind of miracle worker with all the changes she's bringing on Ranveer. Preeti hadn't said a word to him since they got home. Not that he tried to talk to her. But it was her fault after all. Why should he apologize?

"I loved him." Preeti said in a monotone. Arjun looked at her, surprise evident on his face.

"Let me re-phrase that." She laughed mirthlessly. "I thought I loved Kunal. He was a senior when I started college. I hated him from day 1. He was arrogant, a flirt, and he got every and anything he wanted."

Arjun gave her a little smile to show he was listening.

"But he showed me a different side of him. He wasn't the biggest jerk in school when he was with me." she continued. "I thought he loved me." Her voice quivered. "But he turned out to be a lying bas***d. He cheated on me with Sweety."

"And I'm still not seeing the reason you didn't want me to knock a few of his teeth out." Arjun said.

"I don't want him to think he can still get to me." she said. "And the best way for that is too ignore him. Besides, Anjali already knocked his two front teeth off. The ones he has now are fake."

"Kya, kya?" Arjun laughed. "Anjali?"

"Yep." Preeti said proudly.

"Anjali get down here right now!" Ranveer hissed at her.

Anjali had currently situated herself on the ledge of the balcony, throwing chips at the people walking below. "No. I like it up here. And leave me alone. I'm feeding people." she said, going back to throwing bits of chips.

Ranveer sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. 'Why do these things only happen to me?' he thought irritably. "Anjali." he tried in a kinder voice. "You can still feed them. Just don't sit so close to the edge."

"Why? You think I'll fall over?" she laughed, getting up to stand on the ledge.

Ranveer's eyes widened. "Anjali!"

"Aww, don't be such a downer." she giggled teetering back and forth. "You know, you need to loosen up. Chill, man." she said. Suddenly one of her heels slipped and she was falling backwards. Ranveer quickly grabbed her hand pulling her back, catching her before she hit the floor.

"Whoops. That was close." She giggled again.

Looking into Ranveer's worried eyes, she smiled. "I love you..."

Ranveer froze, having being caught completely off guard.

"I love you John Abraham!" she squealed.

Ranveer let out a sigh of relief. "Anji," he said "I'm not-.. Never mind." he said said putting her down. "Let's go."

"Go where?"

"Home." he answered.

"I'm not going to anyone's home! You go back to Sweety and leave me here." she cried, running away.

"Damn it! Anjali!" He yelled chasing after her.

"Thank you Arjun." Preeti said.

"There's something I thought I'd never hear." he grinned. "Thanks for what?"

"For not looking at me with pity."

"If anything, I feel pity for that Kunal." Arjun laughed. "Getting beat up by a girl, who he's twice the size of? Wish I'd been there." He said making her laugh. "He's an idiot for letting such a beautiful girl go." he winked at her.

She blushed looking anywhere else, but him.

"Now way!" Arjun feigned shock. "Preeti Sharma can blush?"

"Shut up." She said throwing the sofa cushion at him.

"That dress is hideous. It looks like a cat threw up all over it." Anjali said to the girl who was fixing her hair in the mirror. She was currently seated on top of the marble counter by the mirrors in the ladies' rest room, hiding from Ranveer.

"Hmphh." the girl said walking away.

"You're welcome!" Anjali called after her. Deciding Ranveer must have given up and left she hopped off the counter and peeked her head out of the room. Not seeing him in the vicinity, she grinned. As soon as she walked out, Ranveer grabbed her around the waist. "Got you." He smirked.

"Let me go! Or I'll scream!" she threatened him.

"Don't be childish." he replied not letting go.

"AHHH!"

"Christ Anjali , stop it!" he yelled putting a hand over her mouth. "Sh*t!" he yelled when she bit him.

"Not so fast." he caught her as she tried to run again. Dragging her by the hand, got her outside. "We are leaving. Now." he growled. 'When I get my hands on that Sameer...' he thought furiously.

"This is HELL." Arjun groaned. He and Preeti decided to wait for Ranveer and Anjali to get home. To pass time, Preeti suggested they watch a movie. She chose Twilight. "What is up with this Bella girl? I don't see why all the guys in town are in love with her."

"Shush. You let me choose, now man up and watch Twilight." she retorted.

"I'm just trying to understand the so-called logic of this movie. So Edwin is a fairy?" he asked, totally confused.

"It's EDWARD, and he's a vampire!"

"Ohh. That's ...no I think he's a fairy."

---

"OK!! Ok! I'll go with you!" Anjali cried. "Just let go."

Ranveer looked at her puppy-dog eyes and gave in. "Fine. But don't run away-"

Before he could finish, she ran straight into the fountain. "I'm going to learn how to swim!" She squealed.

---

"Edward is a vampire. Jacob is a werewolf. Bella is human." Preeti tried explaining to Arjun again.

"I thought she was a witch."

"No! Were you even watching the movie?"

"Not really." He replied truthfully.

---

"Okay. You've had your fun Anjali. Now let's go." Ranveer called angrily to Anjali, who was busy splashing around in the fountain. When she ignored him , he reached in pulling her out. Ignoring her protests he threw her over his shoulder, and carried her to the car.

---

"You must be crazy!" Arjun yelled. "We are not watching part 2 of that stupid movie!"

"Why not?" Preeti whined, putting the remote control behind her back, as Arjun reached for it.

"Because my brain may melt."

"You have a brain?"

Arjun made a grab for the remote, falling on top of her in the process. Moving a strand of hair away from her eyes, he leaned closer. Preeti closed her eyes, just as Arjun's lips were centimeters away from hers.

They were both startled, when they heard the door slam. Arjun leaped away from her, to the other side of the couch.

Composing herself, she turned to the door to see an angry Ranveer with a sleeping Anjali hoisted over his shoulder, both dripping wet.

"Don't even ask." Ranveer said in response to the bemused looks he received from Arjun and Preeti.

ok. first of all you have no idea how relieved i am that you updated. i thought you were really gonna stop writing this amazing fanfic. itz one of, if not THE BEST, i have ever read. no joke. you shouldnt worry about the quantity of comments or likes...but the quality. and from what ive been reading you have some pretty awesome readers😉lolz so keep writing this brilliant story and we will keep reading it !!!!!

Love the update! this this was really good.👏 Love the chemistry between Arjun and Preeti.❤️ Ranveer and Anjali's scenes was totally awesome. ☺️Cant wait to see what happens next! I also love the videos you made! keep making some more. It really does go with the story. Will be waiting for your next update😍!!!!!!!!👏👏
