Chapter Five

Kripa walked into hell that evening. There were tables turned over, keys and phones thrown all about. Her brother and father seemed to be yelling at each other in the other living room. She very cautiously walked to the living room and found the two men standing in the middle looking at one another in anger. Her mother stood at the side, worry clear on her face. Moments later, her brother stormed out of the house without saying a word to anyone. Kripa walked to her room with shaky legs and crawled into bed pushing everything out. That is, until her aunt walked into her room like she owned it.

"Kripa, what happened between your brother and father?" She inquired. Kripa groaned into her pillow.

"Why don't you go ask your brother? My so called father." She snapped back.

Her aunt stared at her for a moment before walking out slamming the door behind her. Kripa winced and pulled her blanket over on top of her head. Her aunt had been living with them for years. She was the one who sponsored her father and grandfather to the UK since she was married to a man from here. The marriage didn't last long since he turned out to be a complete drug addict. He didn't work, he didn't take care of the kids and always came home drunk. That is, until Kripa's father threw him out of the house and he went back to his parents. Ever since then, her aunt and her children had lived with them. If her aunt had any self-respect, Kripa would think constantly, she would buy herself a house and move out. Her children are complete failures, both laborers. One dropped out of high school, the other didn't have good enough marks for university. Shaking her head, she closed her eyes and fell into a peaceful slumber.

Angad paced around in his room unable to decide what to do. There was no way in hell he was going back to Kripa Sharma's clinic. He didn't need help and that was that. He didn't care what anyone else thought.He didn't need anything from anyone. Dilip had been wanting to hand over Angad one half of the family shares but Angad wanted nothing of Dilip Kapoor's. He was startled when a knock sounded on his door.

"Come in." He called in a distant tone. The door opened and in stepped his step brother, Kartik.

"Angad, what's wrong? Why don't you just listen to mom for once. Please. She's so worried for you." Kartik mumbled. Angad rolled his eyes.

"Are you kidding me? Why on Earth did you think i was going to listen to you Kartik Kapoor? Listen, i don't need your or your father's help at all. Do you understand that? And as for my mom, she's my mother right? Don't teach me how to behave with her!" Angad snapped pointing towards the door, indicating for him to leave.
Kartik shook his head and started out.

"You're going to regret this Angad Khanna. And, mom told me to inform you that there's a business party tonight. Come downstairs on time. 7 sharp." He said before walking out. Angad slammed the door closed frustrated.

At 7 sharp, Angad went down and found the house filled with business suit clad men and black, shiny gown women. There were an occasional black saris but not many; his mom would be one of them. As he walked down the stairs, he grabbed a champagne glass and found himself a secluded corner to stand in. Unfortunately, being such a well known lawyer didn't help his attempt at transparency. Some idiot or the other would fail to see that he was obviously wanting to stay alone once in a while and would start making small talk. About an hour later, he spotted Kripa Sharma walk through the doors. He watched almost mesmerized. He never failed to notice how beautiful she was. Catching him stare, she turned to look right at him and surprisingly, smiled. Before he knew it, he was smiling back. She walked right to him.

"Hey." She whispered.
"Hi." He replied.

Then an awkward silence followed.

"So, how have you been doing?" Kripa asked him and he rolled his eyes. Before he could speak, Dilip was talking in a mic.

"Ladies and gentlemen, today is a very special day because i have decided to retire. The family company will be equally divided among my two sons. Angad and Kartik." He announced.

Angad stood there unable to speak or react in any way at all.
